  1. Morning Folks Ok so I have taken the front hubs apart everything is good and working fluids changed and full In 2 wheel drive the bike works great However in 4 wheel drive high I get a grinding clunking noise right near the foot pegs The universals are all brand new in the complete bike The problem just started after my last ride Sometimes I have to change the rpm to get the bike to go into gear in forward and reverse The bike doesn't make the grinding noise when I have the bike in 4 wheel driver low gear only in high gear Could the shifter need adjusting any help would be great Thanks for your time Oldcomet
  2. Just bought a 2003 Kodiak 450.At take off,the belt doesnt grab for a few seconds.Is there any wat to tighten belt?& how tight should it be?
  3. New to ATVing here and just got a '11 Grizz with the belt drive transmission and I've been suggested to take along an extra CVT belt along in remote rides just in case. I'm somewhat knowledgeable about where to get quality parts for cars but not so much for ATVs. Who makes the best CVT belt for my bike? Also, who makes just ok belts and who should I stay away from? Also, I'm looking at getting a snatch block for a synthetic rope winch and wondered if the type rope determines what type of block you should get...or are all snatch blocks the same and I'm just thinking about this one too much? Thanks
  4. Have been using it to plow my driveway, worked fine until about a week ago. Suddenly the front wheels are the only one engaging and the rear wheels are not. Shifts and goes forward and reverse just fine but with front wheels only. Thanks Any Ideas
  5. My boot on the drive shaft came off this weekend. When I tried to put it back on it appeared to be about 2" too large. Any explanations???? Also when the boot cam off, there was oil in the boot. Is this normal??? Thanks for your help.
  6. hi - a friend of mine has a 2004 Honda Foreman 450. His machine will move in 4-wheel drive but not when in 2-wheel drive. WHen he uses 4-wheel drive to start moving, he can then turn off 4-wheel and quad keeps moving. Whats wrong?
  7. Hi i have a 94 Timberwolf 4x4. I got it at the beginning of the summer and it ran great all summer apart for an idling issue. I looked into it and i had oil in my air box and when i checked the dip stick it looks like it was overfllled. I took some oil out of the motor jumped on the bike and put it in gear.. nothing.. it runs great but wont drive. i tried it again off the bike and it drove a few feet but once i gave it any kind of power it would act like it was in neutral even though i know it wasnt. i tried cycling the gears and in reverse but i wasnt getting anywhere. it acts like it is going into gear and cycling through them but i cant get power to the wheels. i tried taking more oil out of it and adding new oil to the bike and it seemed to make it feel like it was shifting into drive or reverse easier but it still wont drive.. i talked to the guy that does small engine work in my town (although he is always booked up for 3 months at a time) so i didnt bring it in yet but he said something about some locking pin that seems to break on these models that would actually keep it from engaging into gear.. its located on the inside of the lever that you push forward for drive or backwards for reverse (i think this may not be the problem since i did have it moving somewat with no weight on the bike). any ideas?
  8. the problem with the four wheel drive is instrument indicator will not go to two wheel selection in resonable time. cold or warm same. i have noticed occasional clunk from front differential on de-exceleration sometimes. advice or solution needed, thanks.
  9. I just picked up a Big Bear 350 4x4, I was told it was a 1994 model. It runs and drives, but needs a bunch of work (I picked it up for a winter project). Anyhow, the front drive shaft is so loose that it falls right out of the splined u joint. The splines aren't worn out, I'll try to get a picture later on but it seems like the drive shaft is too short. It doesn't look broken or extremely worn, but when the pushed all the way into the rear u joint (by the engine) the front of the shaft is not even making connection with the front U joint and the shaft falls out of the front U joint. I can't figure out why it would be like that, the U joints don't look broken or worn (the splines look OK). The spring is still on the shaft up by the front U joint, but it's like the spring is pushing the shaft right out of the joint. Is there supposed to be something keeping the shaft from sliding too far into the rear joint?
  10. I need to know what the dimensions are on the shorter female yoke. I have 2 of the longer ones,need to machine down one of them. What I need is the distance between the center of the Spider hole to the top or end where the shaft slips in. Part #s 49177-1080 & 49177-1081. If anyone can help I would be most grateful. I took on this frame swap job for My Landlord, and its becoming a nightmare of mis ordered parts. I have access to a Mill & Lathe so I would rather whittle one down than wait for more parts. It appears from the parts diagram that the shorter one has a groove on the outside. Thanks Guys
  11. first things first i gotta say what up to everyone on here and to all you im a newbie on here so if this topic has been coverd my bad. im a first time owner of atvs. i just bought a 400ex. its got a bigbore kit lots of aftermarket mods to engine like cam etc. so i got a good deal i guess cause i bought it broke. this how it was explained to me , less then six hour s ride time on mods . guy goes out on pavement with new razr tires on the rear throws the coals to her in second gear goes to grab for third while the front end comes up and he said it went BANG all the sudden there is no drive from trans, or front sproket /output shaft. anyone ever here of this before? any help would be greatly appreciated .

  13. I just got a 300 kawa 4 wheel drive I think it is a 1994 the lever on the left side of the handle bar is missing is this for the clutch there is a cable that is all, this is the first standard shift I have had.It needs parts Thanks Raybob I think he said it was a bayou

  15. Does anyone know how to dismantle the axle on a Chinese 110 atv I don't know extract model or the motor say united motors, I think it is a 110. I need to get at the rear gear and shaft out. The teeth are striped and I need to replace them. If you have a service manual or photos it would be great.

  18. Hello... I recently bought a used 1997 yamaha kodiak 400 4x4 .. I cannot find no 4wd switch on it at all... I got the manual for it from someone on this site and it shows its on the drivers side handle bar where you give it gas but there is nothing there at all... so thought maybe it had been removed but there is no lose wiring no where that connected to anything there... so i been trying to figure out how to get from 2wd into 4wd but there is no switch to push on it as far as I can tell... and my neighber said the reason i could not pull the manual cable to start the atv is because you have to release compression with a nob are something before it will pull easy to start the atv? Sure would appreicate anyones thoughts on these two things thank you
  19. This is my first post and I have some pics which I have attached. I have just bought a doer upper, Big Bear 1995 350 fwd. My first ever quad !! I took off the odometer cable and housing from the crankcase and there was no drive gear on the end of the cable. No sign of it in the part of the crankcase I could see. I am concerned the drive gear could have fallen down into the crankcase. Can I just take off the crankcase cover while the engine is in place to check if the cog has fallen into anything it could damage when I next start it up.
  20. Has anyone run into this problem before? A 1990 Yamaha 350 Big Bear. Needed to replace swingarm bearings and rubber boot. Bearings done but when we (mechanic neighbour and self) went to replace the rubber boot with the factory issued new one (from Yamaha dealer) it was the wrong size. One end (swingarm end) fits fine but the other (trans side) is considerably larger - no possible fit. Both ends should be approximately same size as the swingarm end. Dealer says the previous owner likely switched out the rear end; but mechanic says there would be clear evidence of jerry rigging. He thinks possibly Yamaha Canada and Yamaha USA are different. And as poor luck would have it, I threw out the old boot! Visited a few ATV dealers about a rubber boot aprox. same side both ends but no one seems to know what to suggest. Any suggestions? Chris
  21. I just got a 84 Honda ATC 125. It was used without the clutch releasing,they were just jamming it into gear. If you let off of the throttle it didn't coast,it was engine braking. I got it for $100.00,its in great shape, good tires and starts first pull. When you shift into1st gear you can hear the load on the engine,When you rev it up it starts to go forward then it seems its slipping. When I got off it in gear it it pulled it self across the driveway. It rolls freely in neutral. Thanks to anyone who can help. I'm old enough now to learn from other peoples mistakes,I no longer feel a need to make them all myself.
  22. Looking for some help on how to take the front drive shaft out on my 1991Yamaha Big Bear so we can replace the u joint.
  23. Got all my pieces for Christmas and installed the new drive sprocket (13T) new driven sprocket (38T) and a new 520 xtg chain. Made the chain same size as factory chain and it was too long. It would touch the skid plate. I removed another link and side plates. Now the chain is half a link too short. I cannot get enough adjustment on the slack adjuster. To topf it off on one end i broke a roller so that link has to come out too. Would i be able to add a half link and maybe rivet the repair in?? I know DID has a rivet link but i cant find one for sunstar. I repair non oring chains (#40 - #120) alot on industrial equipment so im familiar with half links and adding aditional links with cotter pin style links and master links. But thats low speed 200 - 300 rpm and high torque. 520 chain seems to be voodoo magic to me. What should I do at this point?? Help im dying to try this sprocket combo..   24. does anyone know what the specs are on a drive belt from a 2000 suzuki quadmaster? how do i know when it is worn out?

First, I'm a mechanical novice, so please bear with my ignorance, I'm trying. 02 Eiger LTA400 - 4wd Auto 400 Picked it up on the cheap due to assumed broken drive belt (motors starts, goes nowhere). Also has to be pull-started, seems starter is shot (or wiring is). Pulled the cover off for the drive belt and definitely toast. Thing is he said he replaced not long ago, so suspicious of why it would break so quickly. He thought he had the wrong part, but looking at the part packaging, looks right to me (Dayco HP2027 - admittedly not highest quality belt, but still). I'm not an expert, but the primary and secondary do not seem to be lined up correctly? Any clues on this? Trying to upload pics to show... Broken Belt Alignment Help please! Brian
