About Me

My Garage

  1. I have a 94 Yamaha Timberwolf 250 4x4. I have no fire to the ignition switch, no nutral light, head lights, or tail light I can jump across the selinoid and start it. I put on a new solinoid. The neutral light comes on,while running, but dims when you give it throttle. Would this be a relay, not letting fire go to the key switch? If so, could someone post diagram from a manual, on how to test the relays? Thanks for any help Ron
  2. Good morning all you quad motor heads out there. I bought my girls a Recon 250. nice quad except one thing. After riding the 2 miles to get to my house, my middle child stalled it. Cant get it to turn over. I can pull start it. And the battery is fully charged. My question is....I cant find an alternator or what is used to charge the battery. is it some type of solenoid? And if so is it that 2" square relay looking thing that sits behind the battery and the cables run through? or is that just a relay? And lastly, if that is not it, what am I looking for on the bike that charges the battery?
  3. Ok, so got this thing, assembled, and even added acid/assembled the battery with a solid trickle charge and the battery is fine. As far as I can tell, I have checked all the fuses I can find, but I have ZERO power to anything. Even the console will not light up when turned to ON. Is there some sort of hidden parental/child disconnect or safety switch that I'm not aware of? ANY help would be appreciated.
  4. Good morning all I am new to the forum and new to the world of ATVs. I recently purchased a 99 big bear 350 4x4 that has a few issues to be resolved. it started with the push button starter it would just click when the button was pushed to date I have replaced the solenoid with a Napa 4 wire setup (not sure if this is installed correctly) and replaced the older baterry with a AGM battery. after all of that it still clicks but the source of the click is a white plastic rectangular box with 2 wires going into it. i have 12.8 volts to the first post of the solenoid and nothing on the second post when the button is pushed. when the solenoid is jumped the starter engages. lastly i have no lights when the buggy is not running and when i hit the light switch there is also a click that happens. Thanks for any info anyone can provide I greatly appreciate the help. Flyman
  5. ok it will start up an run but quits a lot till it gets warm, but has a bad miss an wont idle, I have a brand new Honda carb on it, good gas flow, new plug, but when I let the throttle go below a quarter, it backfires through carb an tail pipe:confused: so it has never had any electrical work or mechanical work done...it just started all the sudden, I'm think it may have ignition coil breaking down, or cdi box going bad...anyone had this trouble before? let me know what you did to fix it. thanks:skeptic:
  6. Just got this harness in today... It's pulls off 2 power wires from my 12v aux and I'm wondering exactly what would the top two connectors be called... What would these connectors be called if I walked into my local Radio Shack and tried to describe it to the kid there?
  7. I have a polaris sportsman 500 efi ho 2008-09 model and I cannot get power to anything. The volts are good on my battery. If I take the ground off of the frame and screw it back on I can get power to the pod but when I try to crank it I lose power to everything. It has a new solenoid and a new starter. Anyone have any ideas?? If it helps give any ideas I drive through mud and water so it does get put through a lot.
  8. My 2004 polaris scrambler 500 started to backfire ,then i was able ti limp it into the driveway and it died . I tried to start it but when i turned the key there was no power to the rest of the quad . my winch still worked but its wired straight to the battery . I had noticed a sound coming from the sylenoid by the battery during previous times i started the engine but then i would turn off the head light and it would start fine . I replaced that but still no dice with the rest of the system . Anyone else ever had this problem ???
  9. Hello everyone... I just purchased my Polaris Sportsman 500 and while riding the other day I went over bump and lost all lights, including speedo/shift indicated gauge and also electric fan that comes on when I turn key to on. Thanks for any help in advance!
  10. I am looking for the service manual LIT-11616-BT-25. I know where I can buy one. I am more interested in a shared electronic version, or just some parts of the electrical section. I have a no spark situation and am trying to trouble shoot myself.
  11. I was pushing snow this morning and all of a sudden my Polais just died (Everything died on it) I changed the battery and checked the fuses which are all good. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Happy New Year
  12. Hi, i have a 1987 yamaha big bear with an electrical trouble...stator new, startor new, battery new, selenoid coil and plug new, new carburator....my mechanic man said to me all is allright with the new stock, but the bike have always sparkink touble pulse he always sparking...the timing is ok and valve adjustement is ok...i have 2 new stator and 2 have the same problem (RM stator)....the only piece is not changed is the cdi, but a cdi is about 300$ in canada...and my mechanic man said to me it's probably the cdi but if i place a order for cdi and it's not this one the trouble dont refund me because it's an electrical part... finally i found on another forum the people switch the white and red wire from the stator because the fire is about 45 degres off...anyboby trying that?? thanks for your help p.s. Excuse my poor english im french canadian
  13. Im Quoting from a previous post because Im having similar problem and Im getting no response back from the poster: when I turn the key on the neutral indicator and reverse indicator lights wont come on and wont start with the push button, I can turn key on and pull start it, and runs great, and will also light the indicator lights up but will be really dim, also the headlights will be dim to, also bought a new battery and still does it, i checked the fuses under the seat and all are good, any ideas on problem? Thanks Jason
  14. Hey all you mechanical/electrical geniuses, Ive got some confusion with my electrical system on this 1995 big bear that was donated to my project list... Ive got a brand new battery hooked up and heres what happens: Key on no headlights I managed to get it to pull start once and it ran ok-ish but there was a buzzing noise coming from what my manual says is my neutral relay, but theres a slim possibility its the starting circuit cutoff relay. no dash lights no electric start once it was running: -buzzing from relay particularly when I idled it down -reverse light was on but at really low idle it would flicker to neutral -no headlights or taillight (but its sat for a while and i dunno the condition of the bulbs) -the rectifier was quite warm after just a minute or so of idle -after i shut it off it wouldnt pull start again. Man I wish I knew more about this stuff. But I"m trying! haha Anyway, thanks ahead of time for any help!
  15. Hey all and thanks for the welcome. I bought a Suzuki King Quad 300 new in 1995 for use on the farm. We used it several years without it hardly missing a beat. Then about twelve years or so ago it started acting like a loaded up two-stroke, blubbering and spitting. At that time I had owned motorcycles for about thirty-six years. I had worked for pretty good sized dealer, raced bikes and later I had two bike shops so I had a little mechanical experience. First thing I did was disassemble and clean the carb, which made no difference at all. After trying everything in my bag of tricks I broke down and took it to a “professional” who assured me that it was a worn needle and seat. I doubted that to be the case but approved the $125 or so “repairs”. It was of little consolation to me that the “professional” couldn’t figure it out either for his “repairs” made absolutely no difference whatsoever. Reluctantly I carried it to another shop. As soon as I started it to unload it off the truck the mechanic said, “That’s an electrical problem.” Well this “professional” knew what he was talking about and after replacing an electrical part it ran great again for another five or six years before it started doing the same thing. I discovered that if I turned on the light that it would smooth right out run normal. By that time we had bought a Kawasaki 610 Mule and the Suzuki didn’t get used much. A few years ago the blubbering and spitting came back even with the lights on. I kept meaning to track down its electrical issue and fix it but other things took precedence. It has been a year or more I suppose since I even started it. I tried to find the paperwork from the original repair to see what was replaced but couldn’t. Although I can hold my own on mechanical issues I have never been very proficient at electrical issues (if they were very complex). I have had the Clymer’s repair manual for any years and I’m sure there is an electrical trouble shooting section I just need to take time to check it out. My thoughts are that it is the rectifier regulator but before I spring for $100 or so I need to do some checking. I have a fencing project through the woods coming up and the Mule is just too big to go through some areas so I need to get the Quad back in service. I have rebuilt the starter a couple of times over the years and will do that again and get a new battery for it. I noticed that in another recent post a King Quad owner had a similar issue. I welcome any thoughts. Thanks again FJ
  16. my 2004 yamaha bruin 350 4x4 has some kinda short in the wire harness or something the lights come on but very faint and then get brighter and some times not at all and sometimes works fine without a problem. all my connections are good. all my grounds are good that i can find. any ideas would help please
  17. i have been having problems with my 400ex. the electric start used to work great and never had a problem but throughout the span of about a month it started to dwindle down each day and now it doesnt even work. i can roll start it and it runs great but if i turn on the lights it seems to have no power and bogs down when i hit the throttle. i just put a new battery in it today hoping it would fix the problem but it didnt change anything. i dont know where to go from there so hopefully someone knows more than i do and can help me fix my issue. any input will help. Thanks!
  18. 2001 Yamaha Bear Tracker..I bought it used but was very well taken care of, low hours and owned by an older fellow who just used it to ride around on his property occasionally. It was running great and all of a sudden began to sputter and backfire. It would start first time but only idle, could not open the throttle at all without dying. I cleaned the carb several times, put a kit in the carb. I checked for leaks in the intake and exhaust. Then I replaced the ignition coil but same situation. I purchased a new stator assembly and installed it, then had no fire at all. I put the old stator back in the bike and it started up but had the same problem I started with. I read in some blog where a person had installed a new stator and had to reverse the two wires on the pickup coil. I removed the pickup coil from the new stator and reversed the wires and it fired up and ran pretty good for awhile, didnt have the jump that it used to and would occasionally backfire and sputter but just occasionally. I had purchased a spark tester from an auto shop, which is a light that goes between the spark plug and the plug wire from the coil. I have noticed that when the bike is not taking throttle that the light on the tester will dim when I open the throttle and is described by the tester instructions to be something faulty in the ignition. I noticed that when the bike would die, while using the tester, that the light would still glow after the engine had died for 10 to 15 seconds. I was riding it yesterday and it would sputter on occasion, then started backfiring and dyed. The engine was not running, but the ignition switch was still on, I reached down to make sure I had a good connection with the spark plug and the plug wire and it shocked the fool out of me. Could a bad CDI module do this? I had installed the old ignition coil back on the bike because the aftermarket one I had bought looked much cheaper, so I thought it may have been breaking down, but unless I have ended up with two bad ignition coils, there must be another problem....any ideas?
  19. Hi folks, I am new to this forum and signed up hoping to get some advice as to what the problem is with the electrics on my timberwolf. The quad is a 2000 4x4 model, just bought it on the cheap a few weeks ago with electric start and lights not working. The starter makes no noise and no attempt to start whatsoever when the button is pushed and the lights dont work at all. It has a battery that has charge in it, so dont know why it wont just run off the battery, could it be a fuse? I saw a thread on here about electric start not working on a timberwolf, I got some info from that but think this problem may be different so thought I'd make my own thread. Any advice would be appreciated Cheers
  20. Hey everyone! I hope someone can help me out. I have a 95 LT-F4WDX that I have been having a strange problem with. It starts & idles perfectly but when I try to rev it up it spits & sputters. I found about 2 weeks ago that when I turned the switch to "headlights on" it ran fine. That worked for a few days but then I had to position the beam selector switch in the middle of high/low beam for it to run right. That worked for about two days, now it must be on low beam & it has to warm up for about 15 - 20 minutes before it will run ok. When switched to high beam, the lights go out & it dies. It seems to me like it needs to have a load to keep running right. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
  21. can't get any spark to the plug. put in a new ignition coil, and a new c.d.i. unit. still haven't got spark. also checked the wires for and breaks and checked both kill switches with ohm tester. they both seem to be working .... does anyone have any ideas..... mike..
  22. I was using my winch after quad was started and running and my quad shut down. dealer installed winch. never had a problem before. battery is good and found the main power 10 amp fuse blown. replaced. now have lights....but nothing showing on display console and quad is dead. wont start or even turn over..am i missing something???
  23. Hi im working on a 07 trx420fm was blowing ign fuse till i bypassed bank angle sensor. But i still have no power to the coil or fuel pump. Can anyone help ,been tring a few other sights with no luck they seem to be more worried about what the bank sensor is than the problem i'm having thanks for any help.
  24. I have 2004 suzuki ltz 400 It idles fine but as soon as you get on the throttle it chokes out. It is not a fuel/carb problem. i have narrowed it down to electrical problem due to the fact that when I get on throttle it draws more power the quad shuts off. I think it is the magneto or voltage distrubtor. Also it runs fine only when the key is turned so lights are on. If turn key to lights off mode. the quad will die. any suggestions
  25. Okay so i had a little problem with fuses getting blown and i took the entire harness off and found nothing, checked every single wire and nothing was wrong, then i put it back on and everything was working fine for about 2 months until the other day, i dont think the weather had anything to do with it because i hardly got to ride it and it just quit and keeps blowing fuses, as soon as i get this fixed im selling it. so any ideas guys?
