  1. help needed please my quad starts up great but back fire when i give it throttle ! It runs great for about 30 to 60 sec or until it starts to get warm . could i get a idea of what you guys think this quad has had me stumped for days i have changed the cdi, carb, plug and thought i had it licked until i put everything back together
  2. My Quadmaster runs great on level ground and downhill. The other day we were going up a slight upgrade and it backfired and lost power going uphill. My neighbor says it needs a new spark plug. thoughts? I bought a new spark plug, however, I cant find where the spark plug is. Obviously Im not a mechanic! I looked everywhere without taking parts off. Can someone please tell me where the spark plug is? Very much appreciated!
  3. Hi. I recently had to replace the diaphragm on my QM 500, so I decided to add a sigma 6 jet kit. I basically replaces the main jet with a 135 (was 130) and moved the clip on the needle down one space (as per their directions) towards the RICH direction. Now that I have it reinstalled it starts great, idles great but if you try and give it any throttle it sputters, pops and looses all power. With the choke on it will accept throttle. This implies to me that I am running LEAN, which seems strange as I moved the needle towards rich and put a bigger jet in? I have checked the rubber connections on either side of the carb, the carb has been out and it is CLEAN. So any thoughts other then just "clean the carb". Thanks Chris
  4. I have a 01 quadmaster 500 that im having some issues with. It was running fine then all of a sudden when I went to give it gas it started stumbling. I called a dealer and was told by their service department that it probably need a carb rebuild. I soaked the carb overnight in carb cleaner and then rebuilt it the next day. the quad will start but it will only idle...when i give it gas it starts stumbling and backfires and wants to stall. if anyone has some insite on this issue let me know

Im Quoting from a previous post because Im having similar problem and Im getting no response back from the poster: when I turn the key on the neutral indicator and reverse indicator lights wont come on and wont start with the push button, I can turn key on and pull start it, and runs great, and will also light the indicator lights up but will be really dim, also the headlights will be dim to, also bought a new battery and still does it, i checked the fuses under the seat and all are good, any ideas on problem?   6. We got this bad boy off of craigslist and it was great for about 1000 feet. It stalled and we were not able to start it back up/ via starter. I started it back up adjusted the carb and cleaned it up, found the fuel shutoff valve was backwards. so then we get out and run it again. Somehow it stalled again, except this time the starter wouldn't start it. tried pulling no luck. Check the starter and the wire running from the solenoid is starting to melt. Removed the starter and tested it, it runs smoothly. took a screwdriver to the bendix gear and it won't move... I can't find any decent service manuals and I'm thinking that it's the bendix locked up. It will pull, idk about pull start, sounds like the engine is turning. My next step is to pull off the cover, is it just rtv sealant? I'm new to atvs but not to mechanic work.

Ok guys and gals it's finally time to ask for some help with a mid to high rpm miss fire I'm having on my 2000 quadmaster which causes it to backfire bad and wont allow it to rev past 3000 as per what my timing light is telling me. For the past 2 weeks I've been trouble shooting this issue and for the life of me I cant figure out whats wrong. Here's a little background to what I've done so far. 1. Cleaned and rebuilt carb all jets and settings are in spec. 2. Checked compression and valve lash a 3. Battery voltage stays steady at around 13.8v 4. Ohms and peak voltage tested everything as per the oem service manual and no problems found 5. Removed stator cover and found no physical damage to stator or pick up coil or magnets 6. Bought a new ignition coil and spark plug plus used cdi 7. Checked all wiring for damage and cleaned grounds 8. Disconnected rectifier and stator to eliminate that as possible cause 9. jumped power and ground direct to cdi I know Is an ignition miss because I purchased a inline spark tester so I could physically watch the ignition system in action. It starts and idles smooth with a consistent flash from the spark tester but as soon as i try to rev it up I can see the spark tester skip and my quad just backfires and wont rev past around 3000. Ok any ideas?
  8. Hi guys I am new to the site. I just picked up this 50 for my kids and brought it home. I tried to start it but it has no spark. I contacted my local dealer and they cant find a manual to lend or for me to buy. I was wondering if you guys could help
  9. Hello everyone I am new to this forum. I am working on a Quadmaster for a friend. The only thing I have left to replace is the rubber diaphragm in the carb. I think I have cross referenced it to some other models that actually offer the rubber part only but I am not sure. The rubber part is screwed on on this slide and not pressed on. Has anyone replaced just the rubber on this model? I have seen a website that offers aftermarket rubbers but they all look much thicker than the one that came on this bike. General Mikuni carb question. I cannot find solid manual information for this year and model online. Everything that I read says that it has a Mikuni BST34 Carb. However all I find is BS34 and all of these appear to have a round slide. This carb has a flat slide. All the Mikuni flat slide carbs that I find online do not look like this carb. I would think that I should be able to order a rubber diaphragm for the specific carb regardless of what it came in... Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  10. My Suzuki Quadmaster wont start. I have changed the battery and still no lights. I took my battery charger and turned it over with that and it would turn and turn and turn but wouldnt fire up. The lights on the handle bars would keep flickering but stay wicked dim. I have checked the fuses and the fuses are good. Those are the main problems another problem is the pull cord keeps breaking. I changed the cord and it still keeps breaking. But that is the least of my worries. Thanks.

  12. I know the piston has to be at TDC, but there is no marks on the cam gear. i kinda figured that when the one bolt is up the cam lobes are down, not touching the rocker arms. i want to know if this is how to do it? someone give me an answer.
  13. Hello Everyone and thank you in advance for any advice you can provide. Also this is my first post. I have read some other posts regarding backfiring of this type of quad, but my issue adds another layer of complexity. My quad which I purchased from a gentleman who couldn't figure this issue out thought he had it licked, as well as I did. He had replaced the carb with a brand new one and still had the same issue. Here is the issue: Initially the quad ran great, didn't have any backfiring issues IF the ignition switch was turned all the way to the second click which is the lights on position. It would start and run fine. However, if the quad was run on the first ignition click - lights off, it would backfire and not run. So the solution to the problem was simply to run the quad with the lights on. Now, even if it is run with the lights on it backfires and sputters. It will not accept any throttle. It will backfire and surge if throttle is applied. Thank you for any advice.
  14. My question is on the carb on my 2000 quad master there is two vacuum lines.,, if I am stetting on 4 wheeler one is on the right it has vacuum I can put my finger over it i can feel vacuum ,,one is on the left of the carb is now hooked to the fuel cock valve. thanks Raybob
  15. Hey guys, brand new to the post. I have a 2000 Quadmaster 500. Long story short, my atv wouldn't start this spring due to gummed carb. Pulled it apart and cleaned everything, and replaced float needle. Put everything back together, cleaned the fuel tank and put new fuel in her. She started great and idled fabulous. I went to go for a rip and found I only had half power. Flat out throttle and I only had maybe 10-15 miles an hour. It wasn't choking or flooding or running rough. It just felt like half power. HELP!!
  16. well mine wont shift in and out of 4x4 with the top cap spring and pin in if i back it out about a quater of an inch it will shift in and out im not sure what i am missing here , i need help please
  17. I have a 2000 Suzuki Quadmaster and I am having problems with it running.There is a new carb and new gas tank valve installed.It will running and then it starts acting like it is not getting fuel

  19. My Quadmaster was getting very hard to start so I put a carb kit in it except the diaphram and float. Now it is running worse, it is stumbling and backfiring. I read some of the threads with similar problems and have adjusted the valves and the float and have checked the carb several times and it still runs awful. I have ordered a new fuel valve and vacuum hose to try that, I took it apart and the diaphram in it looks kind of bad. I have 4 questions: 1. Can the diaphram or float in the carb cause this problem? 2. The needle valve goes through the diaphram assembly and has an E clip with 5 settings,I have it on the middle setting, I didn't pay attention when I replaced it, which setting is the right one? 3. There looks like good fire at the spark plug, could this be an electrical issue? (CDI or Ignition coil, generator) 4. I also left the fuel valve in the PRI position over night and most of the gas went on the ground and evaporated, it did not go into crankcase. The book says this could cause engine damage, what kind of problems can this cause? It runs the same as before. thanks for any help Gary

So I was out playin in some mud yesterday. was a good ol' mud flinging time. but i have a 2000 Suzuki LT-A500F so what happend was i got stuck and i heard a grinding noise, as if the front diff hadnt engage fully. so it went away i was spining the tires to get out and immidately i noticed black on the ground..... was engine oil. shut it down ( didnt loose very much by the time i noticed) motors safe still. anyways i looked into it. the seal around the front drive shaft where it goes into the motor blew out theres my problem. i added oil to start it up and move it a couple hundered feet so i could load it up. and it made that awful grinding noise again and wouldnt move. engine runs awsome still no problems there something to do with drive train. is it cause theres not enough oil in the motor and it having a shot seal or is something horrible gone wrong with it now:aargh: . please tell me its nothing major. i pulled the clutch cover off everything is ok ther so it is something internal if it is.
  21. When my atv is put in 4 wheel, it makes some growling noises and then kicks itself out of gear. Has anyone had the front end apart with a similar problem?

Hey, I have just bought this quad. its in decent shape, but does not run. its turns over and is getting fuel and has to what seems to be good compression(just going by finger over the plug hole and turning over. but it wont run due to no spark. i did have it making spark but not very good. where do i start? i put on a new plug wire and new plug what next how do i tet and search things? im new at this stuff diesel engines i know like the ack of my hand but this i am a complete newb. what would be the first thing on a list to check and how tos. all help is greatly appreciated. thanks
  23. I am in desired need of the torque spec and wether it is rotating or torque to yield. I have a manual but all it says is take the diff to a dealership. I am a mechanic by trade and I am to cheap to get someone else to do it. I have asked all of the dealerships in my area for the spec and they all say bring it in and we will set it for me for $100.00. I don't think so. So if anyone has the spec for the front diff on this quad it would be very much appreciated if you would let me know. Thanks Your friendly neighbourhood mechanic.
  24. hello and thanks for reading. i have just recieved a 2000 suzuki quad master 500 it has 1200 miles on it and it needs help. first off the reason i got it for cheap is that the starter reduction gears broke the block where they mount so it has to be pull started. after getting it home i made sure all the metal peaces were removed from inside the stator cover. then i put it all together and started it up. it will idle but if i rev it up it will stumble and back fire real bad. i have cleaned the spark plug and the carb and the air filter. it looks like the cdi box has been replaced i can see butt conectors and bare wire( somebody did a bad job). could this be a timming issue? how do i check time?. any help would be great and no i dont have any manual.
