  1. I have a 89 yamaha big bear. Sat for a couple years. Brought it in started it up and every time I start it, it will pop and than shut off. It won't stay running. Any ideas?
  2. Hey everyone. I have been poking around this site for awhile and I am in need of yalls assistance. I have a 06 350 bruin. It has sat in my parents garage for about 2 years and was never started. I got it home, put fresh fuel and plug in it. It would start and run great but it wouldn't idle unless choke was on. Also when you were moving and let off the throttle it would make a pop noise down by the carb area. I thought it was a dirty carb so I sprayed some carb cleaner in it and didn't help. I removed the carb, tore it down and cleaned it. I removed the jets spraying carb cleaner and compressed air thru them. I removed the float as well and cleaned. I drilled out the plug that covers the air/fuel mixture screw. I read where the spec is two turns from fully seated. So that is where I set it at. Before I did that, I removed the screw and spring and cleaned that bore out as well. I reassembled and now I have issues. It is very hard to start, choke or no choke, and when you do get it started, you have to hold the throttle at 3/4 way to keep it running. It will run very rough at 3/4 as well. With the air filter off, while trying to start, it is blowing a lot of fuel back out into the air filter and the plug is getting fuel fouled very bad. I removed the carb again thinking I messed something up or got the float stuck but everything looked fine. I put the carb back on the second time and it didn't change a thing. I assume its something I did since its not running like it did before I tore down the carb. Can anyone please help? Thanks a lot.
  3. i have a 2009 grizzly 700,replaced the fuel pump and filter,replaced the spark plug and checked the air filter for a mouse house! it runs then shuts down,wont stay running,does the fuel line need to be primed and air free to run properly or am i missing something obvious??????????????
  4. Hi: I am looking for some help. I just bought a 2004 Can Am 400 quad that had sat for 2-3 years. I can start it if I spray some gas into the carb but it only runs a few seconds. I haven't been able to get it to continue. Any advice on what the problem might be and how I might follow it would be very much appreciated. It had about a quart of gas in the gas tank when I got it. I siphoned that out and put in new gas. This is my first quad so I'm quite new to this.
  5. I got it from a friend who messed with wireing rite next ro your left thigh when sitting on the wheeler he cut plugs I think but i cant figure it out please help!!!!

Ok i got a 1991 polaris trail boss 350 i bought from my neighbor and he didn't know what was wrong with it here the piston skirt broke off and dropped in the bottom end i ripped motor out and ripped it apart to get the pieces out and everything looks good so i put it back together it needed a key so i bought a new one well it didn't work so i bought one off a junk wheeler and it worked but wont shut it off i revs up so what could be causing this. And my transmission dont have high range what made this happen?
  7. okay so any help would be great. Can anyone tell me why my quad runs okay on reserve but when you turn gas to on it bogs down every time throttle is given. It also back fires when gas is on. I replaced the pet cock fuel line carb was cleaned and redone to resolve problem but still having issues. Any ideas?

  9. at the end of last summer, i had re jetted the the carb on my 2001 350 wolverine...i can't remember exactly what the stock size was, maybe a 143 or so?? but i know i put a 147.5 in it...that it..stock air filter, exhaust,etc..anyway, near the end of august and september i had that baby dialed in...once it warmed up, it had great throttle response, more power, and was running like a top...i had some issues with my electric start, but that's for another thread (actually i think there is another thread on here about that problem)..so here comes winter...all winter long it ran like crap, and still is..it wont idle very long before it just stalls out...sometimes when i put it in first gear and try to pull out, it stalls...sometime i can ride it down the road a ways, and if i let off the gas or come to a stop, it stalls....it has a little backfire to it as well..not real loud, but i can hear it inside the carb..now somebody told me that jet size was too big, especially in these colder conditions....somebody told me i had bad gas (water)...thing is i filled it up and have been on that same tank all winter long, becuase i haven't riddden much, mostly due to how it has been runing...i am thinking of selling it and getting something bigger, so i want it to be running like it was last summer...so should i put the stock jet back in ??? should i drain the gas and put new gas in?? or both??
  10. If anyone is having issues with the Mikuni VM24SS carb, I thought I would post what issues I had and how I resolved them. Acquired a 93 Bayou 220 that had sat for over 4 years. The carb was extremely corroded and pitted and full of leftover fuel. Cleaned carb and bowl and was able to get the engine to start. Within 30 seconds exhaust would heat up and start to glow red hot. Removed carb and recleaned everything, including a second overnight soak. Needless to say, after removing the carb for the 5th time and my frustration to the limit I realized that my attention had been to the carb body and not to the bowl. There is a small brass rod on the bottom of the carb that goes down into the float bowl but is seperated from the main section. I had cleaned that area very well....I had thought. ***The corrosion had sealed off the channel that runs from the main bowl section to the small tube section on the side of the float bowl. No amount of carb cleaner was going to get it to budge. So i took a small nail and started to scrape away the corrosion and was eventually able to dislodge enought of the corrosion that carb cleaner would flow through that channel. *** I thoroughly cleaned each side of the channel in the float bowl and reinstalled the carb and now the issue of it running lean is gone. On a second note the fuel mixture screw was a nightmare to remove as the threads had been corroded and wouldnt let the screw come out. I used a little cutting oil and worked the mixture screw in and out until I was able to push past the corroded threads and completely remove the needle. After a couple passes with a tap to clean the threads it is like new again. Hope this helps if you are having a lean running machine.

Ok..I have the key for main ignition..for some reason, my push button isn't working..I have replaced starter solenoid, start circuit relay, new battery..when I turn the key on, I have 12 volts on the right side of my solenoid, not getting any voltage from the small blue/white stripe wire on the bottom of relay..assuming may be problem with one of the safeties..I can pull start everytime, I can jump solenoid with screwdriver, wrench, etc, and it starts everytime..so I just want to run a new aftermarket push button switch..my question is exactly how to do it..would I just run one wire the the small red/white wire on the bottom of solenoid, and run the other wire(from push button) to the small blue/white wire on bottom of solenoid?..I plan on using 14 guage wire, and I ordered a momentary , waterproof, push button..I plan on just drilling a hole between the key switch and reverse knob and installing it there..would like my e start working before winter hits
  12. ok I have a 400ex that will not stay running. it runs for about 5 to 10 mins then starts to die out once it does die it wont start back up til it cools for a few mins when it dies I try to start it, it turns over fine but wont start but if I just barely I mean barely touch the gas it will turn over like the battery is about dead it looks to be getting spark so I don't think that's it I have put new wiesco piston rings 416 cylinder stage 2 hot cam stage 2 dyno jet kit uni filter in it since I got it not sure if it did it before all these parts cause when I got it, it had a blown head gasket. if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated

Ok my 2009 Kawasaki brute force 750 4x4i is back firing & cutting out when excellerated and the engine is getting hot enough that it burns my leg through jeans and it feels like the exhaust is melting the fender and I can sometimes smell burning plastic. I checked the fan and it is fine, also pulled the fuel pump out and tested and cleaned it and it stopped back firing and cutting out but still runs hot but not showing the temp sensor indicator light on the dfi at all... I checked the plugs and cleaned gapped ect they are fine... radiator is clean and not stopped up, oil level good, injectors working property and clean..... I just don't know what else to do to it.... HELP!
  14. i have an ltr450 that i just had a full motor build with je 13.5:1 piston hot cams the works,when i start it runs for a few secs then dies it also has a power commander does that have to be recalibrated?
  15. Finally got the beast to run. However it will not run unless the choke is on the half to full position. After it starts with the choke on, it idles without any rpm change. Nice and smooth. Would appreciate some help.
  16. ok i have a 2007 arcticcat 700 efi 4x4 it has died on me and wdoesnt want to run i have put a new plug in cleaned coil wire and hammer have also remoced throttle body cleaned it omed out tps checked ics for proper movment have cleaned and ran injector it seems to work fine have cecked fule pump and relay runs like new has 100 percent gas with heat in it for water removal and only way i can get it to run is to turn the tps all the way clock wise i can get it to start that way but only way it will stay runing is i i atand there and give is short burst of starting fluid to the throttle body i have also checked the boot between the throttle body and intake i have also hit every connection with die electrical grease , i know its a fuel issue but from where and whats causing it please help
  17. i have a 1997 200 blaster was riding it and it acted like it was runing out of gas and quit wont start by kick but if u pull it be hind a car it will start and run as long as u keep moving but u stop it dies some 1 please help
  18. i have a 95 ltz 400 and i took it too turkey bay here in Kentucky the other day and it was running great and taking on everything like a champ. then i went through a few deep puddles and shortly after that it just died. i restarted it and it ran for a few feet and not at full power and died again. i kept trying to restart it and when it would start i would hit the throttle and it would die. to me it seemed like there was something clogging the gas line so i took everything apart from the tank to the carburetor and there was no blockage. i took off the carburetor tonight and cleaned everything i could get to on it and reinstalled it and it started up but only ran for a min before dying once again. any ideas of what i might have done and if i need to take it to a shop to get fixed or if i can just do it myself. i really need help with this one....
  19. Hey guys, brand new to the post. I have a 2000 Quadmaster 500. Long story short, my atv wouldn't start this spring due to gummed carb. Pulled it apart and cleaned everything, and replaced float needle. Put everything back together, cleaned the fuel tank and put new fuel in her. She started great and idled fabulous. I went to go for a rip and found I only had half power. Flat out throttle and I only had maybe 10-15 miles an hour. It wasn't choking or flooding or running rough. It just felt like half power. HELP!!
  20. Ok got the atv running like a champ just need a battery......but wait i look on the floor and gas is all over the floor......the gas was leaking from the intake..and out of the hose leading from the float bowl....plz help...oh yea ima put a video up......yea sooo:aargh:
  21. I have taken the carb off and cleaned thoroughly, drained the tank, and replaced the spark plug. Will start right up, and runs fine for a sec, and thens starts cutting out like it is misfiring or something. Will stay running while i hold throttle (Still running rough), but when i let go, it quits. Will not start again, until it sits for a day, or i drain fuel and replace again. Could it have jumped time?
  22. Hello All: I have a 2000 300 2x4 Red. The unit runs great when starting and for the first 1-3 minutes. Then, when starting from dead/idle engine speed, it dies like it is starving for fuel. If I pump the throttle about 8-10 times, it will then take off normally. If it stalls, it always start right up just by pushing the start button...no throttle is needed on re-start. BUT...it will fall on it's face again unless I pump the throttle 8-10 times. I have removed the carb and cleaned it...the float bowl had small amount of dirt in bottom. I removed the fuel tank and cleaned it...cleaned the shut-off valve and replaced the rubber fuel line. The air filter is new and the choke is working properly. Any suggestions to what is causing this to fall flat after warmed up when starting from dead idle position.....Thanks in advance for your suggestions
  23. I just bought a 2006 Artic Cat 500 (575 miles). It ran great when I tested it. Brought it home rode it fine. Added some gas, pretty sure the gas was good. Ran good, then all at once starting stalling when trying to open throttle and take off. Have to play with throttle to get going, still never makes any power. Idles okay. When throttle is increased is bogs down and backfires while in neutral. It is carbuerated. Is there an automatic electric choke? It does start good. Is there a safety devise that kills the spark if a sensor thinks the atv is in reverse or some other gear? I had a 2 wheel drive Polaris once that the reverse shift lever had a sensor on it that limited the engine power when in reverse. Had to wire around switch to get bike to accelerate.
  24. I have a hard starting trx200. When I use starter fluid it will start for a few seconds and die. I cleaned it and replaced spring for choke. Still doesn't start. Spark is good and starter cranks good. Any ideas would be appreciated. I do have a second carb to replace it with but if I can fix it easily the better as these take a bit to tear apart. Thanks Ron
  25. I have a 2006 yamaha raptor 80, that i am haveing an issue with. It has about 20 hours on it pretty new hasnt been road much it has been sitting for 3 or 4 years. The first thang is it wont start just by pushing the start button you have to push start it for some reason? And next thang is it will not stay running if you turn the choke off. You have to leave the choke on all the way or it will die, does anyone know what the problem is with this 4 wheeler? Thanks for all that can help me out here.
