the start button quit working so i intalled new one, still nothing, it will not try and start at all like its not getting and power to the button so i thot its the cylinoid (which sits next to the battery which is above the left back tire) I put brand new one on still nothing...when i jump the cylinoid with a piece of copper wire it starts right up.... is there a fuse or something that leads to the starter button that could be blown? I took the seat off and tracked the wire from the cylinoid to the starter button and i noticed the wire goes into something that is wrapped in some kind of black rubber plastic looking square shaped thing... the wire goes in one side and out the other? what is inside that black rubber thing? a fuse? could that be the problem? i dont want to cut it open if i dont need to..... all help is needed thanks....

My wife has a well used 325 Trail Boss and recently she noticed there is a distinct rhythmic clicking or popping noise that sounds like its coming from the chain/ sprocket area. Increases with speed and happens in fwd or reverse. I jacked up the rear of the quad and rotated the tires and there is no sound when the drivetrain is unloaded. Any suggestions on what this could be or how to troubleshoot? Im new to 4-wheelers, so this might be something pretty simple but I just dont have much experience working with them. Would appreciate any help or suggestions

I happened across a 1995 Polaris 250 Trail Boss today. The machine was in excellent condition with the exception of the motor which the owner explained to me had seized up and the crank was shot. I've looked around and have found several lower ends but not of 1995. How interchangeable are they and if so what years will work? I pored through the free manual on this site but it doesn't go into particulars about year to year compatibility. Thanks Mike

Hello everybody. I recently bought a '92 Polaris Trail Boss 4x4 250 for a project bike for my sons to ride. It's a 2 stroke air cooled motor, chain driven bike, and the previous owner had a shop bore over the motor .040 I was told. He also removed the front drive shafts, so it's basically a 2WD now. LOL. When I purchased it it was in pretty rough condition. Brakes didn't work, hard to start, rusty frame, chains were covered in muck, flat tires (wrong size too), torn seat, would grind when u put it in Drive, but when it did get it started it tore down the road like a bat out of Hell, so I knew I found a keeper. I have since fixed the brakes, replaced fuel lines, air/fuel/oil filters, tires, rebuilt the carb w/ a carb kit, replaced breather/vent/drain hoses on carb and reupholstered the seat, replaced the rear chain, and replaced spark plug and ignition coil. I use Bel Ray SL2 oil in her. I did not replace the battery. We ride this bike on trails and it runs pretty good now. Occasionally it will backfire (loud), but not every ride. Since the day I bought it it takes forever to start the engine. I mean like 30 seconds to a minute of trying to start her. I turn choke on, I flutter the throttle, and hold the START button. This is the only way she'll start. I hold the start button in for approx 10 seconds at a time, but I'm concerned I'm going to burn out my starter if this persists. Now after we ride the bike and she's warmed up she starts faster. Still not as fast of a start as my '98 Yamaha Big Bear 350 which immediately starts first try. It's stubborn on the FIRST start up. Now I live in Florida and it's always HOT when we ride, so even when the motor is cold it's enjoying 85-95 degree weather. Any thought or suggestions how to fix my quad's problem? Sorry, I mistyped the Title of this Thread. Polaris is a 1992 NOT a 1991

I have a Polaris 250, 2 stroke. The oil pump drive gear disintegrated due to age It’s made of plastic. I ordered a top end kit, crank bearings, oil pump gear (steal)! I had the cylinder bore 10 thou. Starts right up and runs great until it warms up. Then want to die at an idle and seem to run hot like it is running to lean. I brought up the needle on the slide to richen it up but it runs very rich. ( 2 stroke pop chug pop) Like they do when running rich. I wonder if the WSM piston is not expanding when hot or if the bore job was a poor job.

Could someone please explain how this could happen? The bolts that hold the stator plate in place came loose and broke all the wires going to the cdi and coil.there`s 7 wires coming out of it. I rewired the wiring and finally got it to crank up and run but..........for some strange reason when you put the gear selector in f for foward, it`s in reverse and when youi put it in reverse it goes foward any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.

My 1987 Trail boss will start with choke on, and then the choke must immediately be taken off to get the engine to run for 5 seconds only. If the choke is reapplyed when the engine is shutting down after burning its 5 second gulp of fuel from the choke, it will run for another 5 seconds and so on. I have removed and cleaned the carb twice without finding a problem or improving the problem. Each time I remove the carb, the bowl is full of fuel. Compression is 95 psi. It is only running on the fuel provided by continually applying the choke!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone, I'm new here obviously, I'm looking for info on this bike, tried this question on another forum and didn't get much response. Any input is appreciated. TIA! Hey all, I just bought a 1993 350 4X4. It's in good shape and appears to have been fairly well taken care of. I've been going through it servicing and inspecting it. The owners manual says to check the counter balance oil, and to top it off with 10/30. Only the manual just shows the drain plug and not the fill plug. I took a picture of what I believe is the fill, in the red circle about the pull start, but I wanted to confirm. I know the plug to the left is the transmission fluid fill and it's full, but the plug on the right in the circle is dry. Also, just what is the counter balance, what does it do? TIA!
