  1. I have a 2000 (or 99 I cant remember) Honda Foreman 400. I recently got it stuck and upon getting it out of the mud and water I could not get it to shift back into neutral, and it is impossible to start the quad unless it is in neutral. I have tried rocking it, shifting up then down, and just about every other trick I could think of. Any suggestions as to what's going on here? Thanks
  2. I was riding the other day. Got stuck in a mud hole. Now it won't move when shifted into gears. It will move slow in reverse, very slow. Any thoughts to this problem. Runs good just won't go when put into gear.
  3. looking for direct shift shifting lever that properly fits my 2003 Yamaha warrior 350 and fits my foot the same as a stock 2003 Yamaha warrior 350 shifting lever fits my foot
  4. I just wanted to let other RZR Owners know about a problem with the Ranger Razor Shifting. When I got my RZR, I found that the transmission wouldn't go into High unless you held the shift lever back and gave it some gas. It also has to be pushed forward and rocked to get it into Park... Not good. I took it to the Polaris Dealer and they adjusted the shift cable which didn't help, and they told me it was something I would have to live with. Well, my factory warranty was going to expire in about four days so I took it to another Dealer in St Helens, Oregon. They tried to adjust the cable too, but said it might take a while for me to get it back if they had to remove the transmission to check it out. Well it turns out the detend arm that makes the tranny click as it goes from gear to gear has a ball bearing with a spring behind it. The ball bearing makes the actual click as it goes throught the detent notches. The spring behind the Ball bearing was bent or squished about 1/4th of an inch so it wasn't making the tranny go into the end detents (Park, and High). They ordered the new spring, but called me a few days later saying the part was on backorder. This tells me there are a few RZR's out there with this same problem. So anyone having this issue should get it fixed before the Warranty expires, or at least be able to know there is a way to fix it. I hope this helps fellow RZR owners. Phoneman2 UPDATE. The Polaris Dealership called and informed me that the spring came in, and they installed it, but it did not fix the problem. They are going through the Transmission and should have answers for me very soon. Stand by. ok, I got it back a few weeks ago and finally had a chance to try it out. The Dealership "Columbia Honda Suzuki Polaris" in St Helens Oregon did a fantastic job. The problem with the shifting and park seemed to be the Gears. They were designed wrong and wouldn't mesh correctly. The old gear has the mating surface at 90 degrees, and the new gear has the mating surfaces at an angle so the gears could actually mesh and go into gear without revving the engine or rocking the RZR back and forth. They had the RZR for over a month and a half, but that's because they waited on parts forever. I highly recommend anyone looking for a great dealership to do buisness with, check them out. I am buying my next Off Road Vehicle from them. Thanks for your time.
  5. My 500 4x4 only works if shift lever is pushed forward, I understand that there is a switch in the shifter box that goes bad and am wondering if this could be the problem and is there any way to check it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  6. I am about at my wits end. Took the 250 back to the dealer repair shop AGAIN. Had it in there two months ago for a bad smoking issue. I thought it was to much fuel and washing the oil off the cylinder and burning it. They said it was the head. So I purchased new valves, valve guides, oil seals and had the head professionally done. So $225 later I had a great looking head. Well while I had the ATV apart this far I also got new rings for the piston. Mic'd everything out and everything was in spec. Put it back together and seemed like it smoked a little at the house (5000 feet above sea level). Took it to the mountains (9000 feet above seal level) for Sept. bear hunting and couldn't use it. Smoked worse than before and couldn't run it past half throttle or it would flood itself out. So brought it back home and it is back at the shop again. I say it is something in the carb that isn't set right or wrong jet????????? Anyone have any other ideas that it could be?
  7. I have a 01 yamaha warrior. I took it off the truck to go riding for a bit the other day but I ran into a problem. It started right up in neutral but as soon as I let go of the clutch it seems like it is in 1st gear. It was to go as if it's in gear. Once I shift it to 1st though, it locks up after moving a few feet. I'm stumped guys. Help me out please
  8. I saw in past threads or possibly from another ATV site when I Googled my shifter problem. I am in the NE Mountains and it gets cold. I have my 2012 Grizzly 700 in the garage and it is NOT heated. The cold weather here was about -5 to -15 F. When it got that cold my Grizzly 700 would not shift into any gear. Once it warmed up it did shift into gear(s) no problem. I saw this happen about 3 times already since I just got it about 3 weeks ago. I saw a thread in from the past saying to drain the shifter, that there is a hose with a plug? Where is this hose and plug exactly? How do I get to it? Again, like I said I am new all around (wet behind the ears) but I am a hands on guy. I really do not want to take things apart I don't have to. I really need specifics and/or a drawing. I don't think it is the adjustment as when it is not so cold say around 40 degrees F. It does not happen. Plus like I said once it warms up it is fine. THANKS!
  9. I'm new to this forum but really need the help. I have a 01 warrior 350 that will not shift. The foot shifter will not move and the back tires are locked up. Any idea's?
  10. I recently bought a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 with CVT. The bike runs great. Starts right up and motor sounds solid. My problem is sometimes when I shift into gear it grinds as I'm shifting. I always make sure the bike is at a complete stop, I press the foot brake on, and I shift the lever into HIGH or LOW or REVERSE and it grinds as it pops in gear. I'm guessing maybe the idle is too high or I may need a new clutch kit. It has the original stock CVT clutch (springs and weights) so it's probably due for some maintenance. I have adjusted the throttle screw on the carb and when I first turn on bike when cold it idles fine, but after I've been riding a while and she is good and warmed up she idles slightly higher which then creates this horrible grind noise when I shift into gear. My old '92 Polaris Trail Boss did the exact same thing but I found if I applied the foot brake it stopped it from grinding. Pressing the foot brake as I shift doesn't seem to help. I have not opened up the cvt cover to investigate the pulleys yet. Any advice before I start dismantling parts? I'm thinking I will adjust my idle down a little. If this doesn't help I'll take a look at the CVT. Previous owner claims he installed a NEW belt, but never messed the pulleys. And on a side note I plan on changing the stock 25" tires with some 26" or 27" mud tires. This would be a good reason to upgrade my bike with a clutch kit. It would help turn the bigger tires and I'm guessing it might help with this grinding problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am handy with a wrench, but I am not a mechanic by trade.
  11. I have an 89 suzuki 160 that runs great, shifts up with no problem but wont shift back down unless you stop and turn the key off. Then it runs through the gears fine. Thoughts?
  12. Hey guys I just bought a ksf250 for 25 bucks and the motor turns over but it only shifts into two gears and it won't go into neutral. Anybody got any ideas?
  13. My Foreman 500 with ES. Won't shift down. Put in a new battery, After installing the new battery I used it for several short trips running it for 10-20 minutes at a time seamed to be shifting fine struggled a little going from 1 to neutral. parked it for several hours, then later when I started driving it, it would shift up but not shift down. Now it is parked in gear. Is there any way to manully shift it down so I can get it started. And is there a simple fix that could possibly solve this problem.
  14. Stuck in reverse? Appreciate any solutions. Julie
  15. I have a small amout of axle movement in the left side axle. You can only feel it when its jacked up. Am I about to have some trouble? Any thoughts? thanks
  16. I went to move my 2007 Outty 400 today and I couldn't get it to shift properly. When it is on the top side of the Neutral notch it is in Neutral and when it is between Park and Reverse it is in Reverse. Also, the only gears that show on the display are R and N. No park, hi or lo. Any ideas?
  17. I got a 2005 Honda Rancher 350 with a electronic shifter.. it starts and shifts but after a few seconds the indicator starts binking 3 times at a time and it will not shift any more how can I fix it.Somebody mantion that the blinking of the shifter is a code.. does any body knows what it means, I apreciate any help
  18. I just bought this bike Monday off the showroom floor. It was a left over from last year. I only have 20 min of ride time on it. The bike shifts into first and through the higher gears w/out any trouble, but when I down shift the shifter will stay down.... It pops right back up if I tap the side of it with my boot. Does anyone know what's going on here? I was wondering if that oil seal that the shaft goes through may be binding it up, I wouldn't think that this brand new bike would have a bent shaft already. I called the dealership and thy said they couldn't get it in till mid august.
  19. I just bought a 2000 500 Scrambler that had been sitting for a couple of years. The guy that I bought if from told me that it would run fine but the carb has problems. I have worked for American Honda for years as a tech and am some what use to polaris and the way they do things and a carb job isn't a big deal. The machine is in remarkable shape for the year. Carb job went fine and runs like a top until I put it in gear it went about 2 inches and popped out back into neutral. This will do it every time doesn't make any diff. in drive or reverse. Is there anything I should check/adjust before I remove and tear down the transmission. Thank you so much everyone and I know someone has a fix for this issue Tom John in VA
  20. I own a 2005 Honda Rancher TRX400A5. it's well used but I'm running into a problem. When I shift it into reverse then throttle it up it won't move and the system "pops" several popping noises per min. the "ESP" lamp is flashing once then twelve times befor starting the process over again. I have changed all for of the wheel sensors (like the dealer said) I also have a set of directions to syncronize them 1. turn unit key to "on" 2. hold BOTH shift switches for ten seconds 3. hold in the "UP SHIFT" button for 10 seconds. 3. hold the "down shift" button for the same 4. rev eng for 10 seconds. That doesn't work. What now??
  21. looking for any info on how to do a shift star mod any prior posts and any feedback?? Thanks
  22. I have a Honda Recon 250 (2001, I think). I purchased a plow for it this winter with helpful advice from members of the forum and plowing has been a breeze. However, the atv is manual shift and as I am out in the cold plowing, it becomes increasingly difficult to shift into forward gear (lifting up on the lever). I was wondering if this was common in cold weather, and is there a way to adjust the lever or lubricate something in order to prevent the shifting from becoming so difficult. Unfortunately, I have to continuously shift from forward to reverse and back again in order to plow the driveway. Eventually, over time (about 30 minutes) I have to reach down and pull up hard on the shift lever to get back into forward gear. Any suggestions/ideas? (I inherited this atv, my next atv will be automatic). Thanks is advance.
  23. I have an 04 yfz 450 and today I went for a ride and it appears to me that the shaft that the shift pedal attaches to broke inside. I have not really looked at it yet cause i have to pull the entire engine and split the case to investigate more. I was just wondering if this is a common problem on the yfz's and if they made a stronger shaft to put in them. I only want to have to do this one time cause it's a lot of work.
  24. My husband has an F150 and im trying to find him a gear shift knob that looks like a helmet. Anyone have any ideas on where I can find one? Im searching ebay now and havent found anything.
