2010 Polaris RANGER and RANGER RZR Line Up New Products, More Power and ROPS Certified Cabs Model Year 2010 brings more significant changes to Polaris’ RANGER line up with the introduction of two new utility RANGER Side-by-Sides, increased power to existing models, more redesigns, a RANGER XP with power steering and a faster top speed for RANGER RZR. All 2010 RANGERs and RANGER RZRs also come standard with a ROPS Certified Cab. “With the introduction of two new products, more power for the utility line, the redesigned RANGER CREW and 6x6, and a new top speed for RANGER RZR, the 2010 line up picks up where the 2009 line up left off,” said Matt Homan, vice president and general manager of Polaris’ Off-Road division. “We continue to innovate our RANGER line to offer the most extensive Side-by-Side offering in the industry.” Polaris RANGER 400 New for 2010, Polaris is introducing the value-priced, Midsize RANGER 400 and the company’s first electric vehicle, RANGER EV. Both of these units share the same, smaller, two-seat chassis, that fits in the back of a pickup truck, with many of the hardest working, smoothest riding features of their full-sized counterparts: On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive with VersaTrac, Independent Rear Suspension, heavy duty front end protection, high ground clearance and the longest suspension travel in their class. The RANGER 400, although smaller in stature, delivers on the RANGER promise of “hardest working” with real work capabilities such as 500 lbs of cargo capacity, 1,000 lbs payload and 1,250 lbs. of towing, at an attractive $7,999 MSRP. The RANGER 400’s smaller size, 455cc high output, carbureted engine and value price make it an attractive work partner for hunting, farming, maintaining acreage or doing chores around the property. It boasts 29 horsepower and a top speed of 40 mph offering the rider plenty of get-up-and-go to ride to that favorite hunting spot, haul feed to livestock or just take a leisurely ride down the trail. Its On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive ensures it can tackle muddy pastures or rutted, rocky hunting trails, while the VersaTrac ensures you don’t tear up the grass. With a full-line of PURE Polaris products including Lock & Ride accessories, cabs, plows and a speed-regulating, Speed Key, the RANGER 400 can be outfitted to get any job done. Polaris RANGER EV Sharing the same chassis as the RANGER 400, the all-new RANGER EV electric Side-by- Side is a first for Polaris. The unit features the largest battery pack in the industry (11.5 kilowatts) and has the longest range of any electric Midsize. Built for clean and quiet operation, and full of hardest working, smoothest riding features, the RANGER EV is perfect for hunters and homeowners with acreage. With its 30 horsepower electric motor, 35-45 mile range, 25 mph top speed and two hours of riding time between charges, the RANGER EV will transport hunters and their gear to and from their hunting site with fewer disturbances to game. The unit also features a three modes; High for speed, Low for towing and hauling, and Max for maximum range. In 2009, Polaris introduced the ruggedly re-engineered RANGER that was the hardest working and smoothest riding RANGER EVER built, and introduced the new RANGER HD, the ultimate heavy-duty utility vehicle with a self leveling rear suspension and power steering. This year, the company powered up the RANGER 4x4 (now called RANGER 500 H.O.) with a 500 H.O engine and added an 800 EFI engine across the rest of the line. To create an exterior that could handle the nastiest work and most extreme riding conditions, the models offer the most-armored front end ever designed to protect vital components such as the radiator, cooling system and front differential. The front headlights were inset for added protection from rocks and branches, and the redesigned bumper with a heavy-duty bash plate offers dedicated vehicle tie down points, massive central tow hook and inset tow hook cage for additional front differential protection. For working at night or to get the hunting spot before daybreak, the vehicles offer auxiliary light mounting holes on the front bumper and bosses already installed for optional Halogen/LED distance headlights. The RANGER 800 CREW and 6x6 work harder and are easier on the operator due to improved and thoughtful ergonomics designed to let the operator work longer and enjoy a better ride. The new models feature more seat and leg space including two-inches more for back-seat passengers on the RANGER 800 CREW, reoriented gas and brake pedal for improved operator comfort, new angled-back seat and a relocated brake lever for easy operation inside and outside of the vehicle. Polaris also redesigned the steering wheel for better steering with gloves and added standard tilt steering with the highest range of motion for maximum comfort. Along with tilt steering, the new models have a 50 percent easier steering effort which helps maneuverability in tight areas such as work sites or woods. RANGER 800 6x6 also is furnished with a new a new, truck-like job box between the cargo box and cab. The cargo box is rated for 1,250 pounds, while the job box handles an extra 250 pounds, and the boxes are Lock & Ride capable. To make the smoothest ride in the industry even smoother, Polaris outfitted the new RANGER 800 CREW and 6x6 with exclusive adjustable Dual A-Arm front suspension in addition to its legendary smooth independent rear suspension. Exclusive to RANGER line, the RANGER 800 CREW features motion ratio and preload suspension adjustment front and rear while the RANGER 800 6x6 offers Independent Rear Suspension with motion ration adjustability on all six wheels. The new Dual A-Arm suspension has two upper shock mounting points for each wheel giving a motion ratio adjustment that dramatically increases the stiffness of suspension. The preload adjustment, available on each wheel, increases the initial spring compression for a 30 percent stiffer ride when needed. I just wanted to let other RZR Owners know about a problem with the Ranger Razor Shifting. When I got my RZR, I found that the transmission wouldn't go into High unless you held the shift lever back and gave it some gas. It also has to be pushed forward and rocked to get it into Park... Not good. I took it to the Polaris Dealer and they adjusted the shift cable which didn't help, and they told me it was something I would have to live with. Well, my factory warranty was going to expire in about four days so I took it to another Dealer in St Helens, Oregon. They tried to adjust the cable too, but said it might take a while for me to get it back if they had to remove the transmission to check it out. Well it turns out the detend arm that makes the tranny click as it goes from gear to gear has a ball bearing with a spring behind it. The ball bearing makes the actual click as it goes throught the detent notches. The spring behind the Ball bearing was bent or squished about 1/4th of an inch so it wasn't making the tranny go into the end detents (Park, and High). They ordered the new spring, but called me a few days later saying the part was on backorder. This tells me there are a few RZR's out there with this same problem. So anyone having this issue should get it fixed before the Warranty expires, or at least be able to know there is a way to fix it. I hope this helps fellow RZR owners. Phoneman2 UPDATE. The Polaris Dealership called and informed me that the spring came in, and they installed it, but it did not fix the problem. They are going through the Transmission and should have answers for me very soon. Stand by. ok, I got it back a few weeks ago and finally had a chance to try it out. The Dealership "Columbia Honda Suzuki Polaris" in St Helens Oregon did a fantastic job. The problem with the shifting and park seemed to be the Gears. They were designed wrong and wouldn't mesh correctly. The old gear has the mating surface at 90 degrees, and the new gear has the mating surfaces at an angle so the gears could actually mesh and go into gear without revving the engine or rocking the RZR back and forth. They had the RZR for over a month and a half, but that's because they waited on parts forever. I highly recommend anyone looking for a great dealership to do buisness with, check them out. I am buying my next Off Road Vehicle from them. Thanks for your time.

As if that wasn’t enough, Polaris introduced the RZR S in 2009, which was leaps and bounds ahead of the competition with a high output factory long travel equipped sporty side x side. For 2010, Polaris has gone above and beyond once again with the release of their all-new RZR 4 Robby Gordon Edition. So, if you’re like us you’re probably wondering some of the following whether you own an existing UTV or not: - Does the engine have enough power? - Does the extra wheelbase cause you to high center or hang up more? - Can you really fit 4 people comfortably for an entire day’s ride? - How is the turning radius? - How well does it fit in tight woods trails? - How well does it rock crawl? - How does it do in the sand? So, to begin, let’s jump right to the things we love about the new RZR 4 Robby Gordon Edition: - Similar fit, finish, and comfort level of the existing RZR and RZR S - Tilt Steering Wheel - Digital Dash - High & Low Beam Lights - Simple 1-position On-Demand AWD System - Comfortable bucket seats front and rear - 4 cup holders - 12v power sockets front and rear - RZR S Suspension with heavier duty Fox Podium X 2.0 shocks Here’s what we’d like to see updated for next year’s models of not only the RZR 4 but also the regular RZR and RZR S: - Parking brake - 6 tie down points in the bed - Integrated hard sided lockable glove box And, specifically for the RZR 4, we’d like to see Polaris utilize the additional space under the rear driver’s side seat for added storage, because you can never have enough space to store stuff when out riding the trails. And, last but not least on the RZR 4, we’d like to see a quicker steering ratio and power steering due to the extra length and additional weight on the front end. But, we know what you’re really wondering is how it drove out on the trails, right? But, before we jump in with our full test, we’re happy to say the new Polaris RZR 4 Robby Gordon Edition is an all around amazing sport side x side. As you can probably imagine, the extra size has its limiting factors, but it also has some very beneficial factors, as well. So, to begin our test, we headed out to the Brimstone Recreation area in Huntsville, TN to test its prowess in tight woods trails. Part of what we were wondering is how many times we’d have to do 3-point turns to make it through the trees. We were wondering if we’d get hung up making hard off-camber turns by catching trees on the roll cage. We also wanted to see just how often we’d get hung up on steep water breaks and big rocks. And, finally we wanted to get the feedback of other riders on the trails with us that had other brands and models of UTVs for some honest comparison feedback. In the end, we were pleasantly surprised with the way the RZR 4 handled tight woods trails. We had folks with existing RZR’s, RZR S’s, Rangers, Prowlers, and Rhinos drive and ride in it, and their responses were all very similar. Engine The engine is peppy when compared to non-RZR machines, and although not as fast as the RZR or RZR S, it seemed to have plenty of power to everyone that drove it. And, for those power hungry folks, there are plenty of options to increase the power of the High Output (H.O.) 760cc engine ranging from turbos to all sorts of bolt-on parts that can fit within your budget. Extra Wheelbase It didn’t get hung up on the tall and steep water breaks like everyone expected. Although you could feel it drag the undercarriage at times, there always seemed to be tires on the ground that were able to pull you through without getting hung up. The positive attribute to the extra wheelbase is that it rides very smooth, soaking up the bumps at both high and low speeds with little to no feedback through the steering wheel. When compared to the other 2-seat UTVs, some even mentioned it was possible to get hung up easier on the steep faced water breaks in their shorter wheelbase UTVs because their tires would be off the ground more. Comfort Factor Although we didn’t test it with 4 adults in the tight woods, we did put 3 adults in to drive it. Three of them currently drove Rhino 450’s, and they were pleasantly surprised at how well it rode, how comfortable the back seat was, and how much quicker it was when compared to the Rhino 450. Upon initial inspection we originally thought the rear seats would only be comfortable for small adults or children. But, after spending hours in the back seat, it’s truly as comfortable as the front seats with a nice grab bar running the entire width of the RZR 4. Turning Radius Our initial assumption was that we were going to have to constantly stop and make 3-point turns to make it through the tight woods trails. But, to our surprise, we only had to do this a couple of times in a full day’s ride. And, for comparison sake, the one guy with a Ranger XP had to do it in the same places we did. But, you will find yourself working the steering wheel more because of the added weight of the machine and what appears to be the same steering box ratio as a regular RZR. We’d like to see a quicker steering box ratio and power steering on next year’s models to make weaving your way through the woods a much more enjoyable experience. Overall Tight Woods Impression The astounding response we received from everyone that rode or drove the RZR 4 was “Wow, I didn’t expect that!” I think what we all realized is that our assumptions were nearly all wrong and that Polaris has really done their homework with the new RZR 4 Robby Gordon Edition. It’s obviously not as nimble as a 2-seat UTV or ATV in the tight woods, but for most people wanting to take their families out trail riding, the positives far outweigh the few times you’ll have to back up or slow down to weave your way through the trees.
