  3. Hello everybody, I need some advice on buying my next utility ATV 4x4. Ive narrowed it down to Arctic Cat, Yamaha, Polaris, or Can Am. Im wanting something with a 500-850 motor. I def do not want a 1000. They just seem too big and heavy. I am 6ft-5in tall and medium build. I currently drive a 1998 Yamaha Big Bear 4x2 350 and its simply too small for my body size. I also own a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 which fits me quite nice and has a comfortable large seat. My wife loves driving the Popo since its automatic, so I get stuck driving the Yamaha if she tags along for ride since its semi auto shift. Id like to trade up the Big Bear for a larger, reliable, capable, trail and mud machine. I must have 4 wheel drive and IRS. I like the reliability of Yamaha, but I must admit my Popo rides quite smooth. I just really dislike the Polaris CVT belt noise and the lag time it requires to move atv after u punch the throttle. I havent tested the new 2013 or 2013 popo sportsman to compare. Im not into extreme mudding, but my friends and I do snorkel our quads and drive thru deep water on occasion. So I would like an ATV that is water friendly, if there is such a thing. LOL! Ive pondered a can am xmr 650 but am worried the can am might be expensive to maintain or repair. I really like the look of the AC Mud Pro, but I have no problem modifying a base model to suit my needs. Whatever bike I buy MUST be large in frame size. I dont need gobs of power but I prefer a larger frame size. My Big bear and my buddys Honda Rancher are just too small. My butt actually hits the rear rack when I ride if I sit bk too far. Please share your thoughts, good or bad. I am not brand loyal, I just want a well made, larger frame bike for trails and some mud. Thanks!

  5. What's up I just picked up a 98 bigbear I'm lookin to build a snorkel and try to make it as water proof as possible.. That being said I'm just curios if anyone has one that's done this or tryed this before.. Just trying to find out if anyone knows where all the breathers are like crank and maybe diffs.. If someone could help me out that'd be great just trying to hit some deep holes with out filling my motor.. Thanks alot
  6. I'll attempt to define a utility ATV. Chime in if you have other qualifications. It should have racks. It should have 4WD. It should have diff lock. It should have a large fuel tank. It should have low end torque. It should be warmed up in less than a half minute. The battery should be easily accessible for giving/receiving jump starts. It should have a cigarette lighter adaptor. It should have a tow hitch. The racks should be low so it won't be top heavy when a sprayer is mounted. It should have very low gearing, especially in reverse. It should have enough fenderwell and tie rod clearance for snow chains. It should have a fan. It should have a storage compartment. It should have bumpers. It should have steel skid plates. It should have a winch. What else? Who makes the most useful utility quad? I have a couple older Suzuki Kingquad LTF300F ATV's, which meet many of the qualifications. Is there anything out there, new or used that would be an upgrade from what I have?

  10. Found out on the Ruby you have to let it run no less than 7 minutes or the motor starts to warm up. It fouls out a $15 dollar plug. I know the Rubicon and Rincon use this plug. Do not know how many other models this affects. Also watch how long the choke is on. These plugs are real easy to foul out.
  11. Posting here again, as the military is using utility quads and this link has some good pics: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/atv.htm Looks like Honda won the bid....I see some Ranchers and some Foremans...
  12. ok. after going out on a ride with some friends and the blaster braking down, i had to borrow my friends 96 honda fourtrax 300 4x4. I LOVED IT. halfway through the ride i switched off with my friends big bear 400. i will probably get something of the sort for christmas. heres the problem. i cant choose! i love the handling of the all time 4x4 matched with the comfortable power of the 300cc's. i love the power of the big bear and the on command 4x4 but its not the softest ride. i just need to choose one because it would be great to help around the farm with and to ride around the trails. dont hessitate to express your opinion
