1999 Polaris Sportsman 500 - Carb/Air Issue

Recommended Posts

Bought a new carberator for my 1999 Sportsman 500. Very excited when it finally started running right & then I put on the air box . . . dogs and can't use more than 1/2 throttle. I've torn it apart, rechecked timing, rechecked valve clearances, checked screw positioning in carb as well as several other little things (like spark plug, etc). This is very frustrating as everything is as it should be. Runs awesome without the air box! But as soon as it's put back on . . . it's back to junk! Very frustrating. Anyone with a suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

There's only one screw on carberator and it's turned out 2 5/8 just like the manual calls for. Like I said, runs like a champ until you put the airbox on. Airbox has brand new filter & for the heck of it, I checked the exhaust too, to make sure air was flowing good. No problems there. At wits end here. New carb wasn't cheap but the time involved in this is a whole 'nother story. I've also put a new cam in, bored out and new piston and rings. I knew the carberator was a problem, as it was leaking and refused to come completely apart for cleaning/repair. So, I bought a new one hoping this would solve my final problem. Alas, still frustrated . . .

      Hi everyone.
Let me explain the thread title.
My husband and I are very active in the nudist community, and we have stayed at many and most of the mainstream nudist and clothing optional campgrounds in the USA. We are now approaching our retirement and would like to start a podcast to share those off the road / backwoods / little known camping areas where nudity is allowed. We have purchased a 5th wheel camping trailer with a rear garage for the ATV and now need some good reports on the one to buy.
We are most interested in a side by side unit but would love to get your thoughts.
Feel free to stop by and say Hi and ask anything you would like to better understand what we are looking for in an offroad unit.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!

Have a 1998 AC 300 2x4, Just installed a new carburetor. Engine starts easy but the choke RPMs are very hi and take along time (5-10 mins when cold out). After engine has warmed up choke releases and it idles and runs fine., It does no have an electric choke. The choke lever is never used and it seems like an auto choke? Long story short, how can I lower the choke rpm levels?

Also, carb came with a spare145 jet, not 100% sure what is installed. Could this impact choke RPMs?

Any help and information greatly appreciated.
