1992 Yamaha Big Bear 350 Rough Idle

I just bought this machine, it wouldnt even idle so I cleaned the carb and reassembled it, cleaned the tank, replaced the fuel line and set the carb to the initial settings per my manual. Now it idles rough and seems like it's running rich, i get black smoke out the muffler. I set the pilot screw to 2 3/4 turns out per the manual, have attempted to adjust it but it doesn't seem to react like it should. Any ideas?

Have you taken the carb apart and inspected the float and pin? I know on some Yamahas the pin corrodes.

I see the other thread for the 95 and have the same question he does, the pin that holds the float in position? He didn't get a reply........ Yes I tore down my carb completely and cleaned everything.

It is the pin/plunger with a pointed rubber tip that blocks the flow of fuel when the float rises.
