Since it is  a  2  stroke  it requires an  oil /gas  mix .  My  guess is  either  the  oil  injection  pump has  quit  working  or  it  was  out of oil .  A  lot  of  LT 80  owners just  premix  the   gas and  oil  and  forget the  injector.  Here  are instructions  stolen from another forum  on  completely removing the   injector  pump.  Most   owners recommend  a  32/1 oil mix although some  say  a   40   or  50/1 mix  works for them .  I'd  go  with the  32/1.

DefaultLT 80 Oil injection/premix

If you want to DC it, I would just pull everything off and keep it in the event you ever want to put it back on.
Chances are you won't, but it would only take a minute to put it all back on if needed.
To disconnect, pull the cover on the left side where you access the clutches. (not the small round one, but the whole side cover)..
There will be a plastic piece on the front clutch that turns the oil pump, just pull that off.
If you just want to DC it and leave everything intact, that should be all you need to do.
You probably could plug the hose coming from the resevoir and then hook it back up, but not sure if that's necessary to prevent some minor draining into the carb.

To completely take it all off...........
Disconnect the hose coming from the oil resevoir. If you want to keep it attached, plug the end and roll it up and wire tie it out of sight.
If you want to remove the pump itself, you can fabricate a cover that will bolt right on. Use the bottom of the pump as a template. Or you can order a block off kit I believe.
Pull the tube from the carburetor and plug that hole.

The  only way  I  can  think  of  would be to  disconnect  the  line  from the oil  injector  pump at the  carb and  temporarily  plug  the  fitting so  you wouldn't  have  a vacuum leak. .  Fill  the   gas tank with 32/1 mix  and run  the  engine ..  See  if  oil  comes  out  of the  line  from  the  pump to the  carb.  I suspect t  is   exactly  because of an  unreliability of  that oil  pump  that  so  many  eliminate it  and  go  for  premix.       Your  piston  displays   the classic scuff marks  of    an  oil starved  2  stroke.

I agree..

What piston did you use? China kit? It stick on the intake side?

Some work, some don't. I run a ball hone thru them and make sure the ring gap is right (been tight when I look/no gap).

hopefully you didn't replace the studs, they are weak.

Did a top end rebuild, honed .010 over, new piston, rings, valve seals, etc. When i re assembled i only had like 30 psi of compression but then after it sat all night i now it seems to have gained some somehow, there is much more resistance pulling it over and i even got it to fire for a few pops. Issue i got is that it makes a loud squeak noise through the intake i believe (goes away when throttled so something with carb area) and it seems to not want to run well. I took head cover back off and timing seems fine so im not sure if something is sticky and that's why i got some change over time or maybe the valve lash is messed up after doing all this, i did get another cam for it but i wouldnt think it would make enough difference to need to re lash. Any insight on next step would be appreciated, i will be looking up how to do lash on these because it is a very weird angle to slip a feeler gauge in.
Actually cam is slightly off now that i look at the picture, thought it was good while looking in person. Hmm.

Hi All.  I introduced myself some weeks ago with my 2006 LT-F400F that needed a list of repairs including replacing the cracked generator cover.  It is back together as of last night and cranks up, idles and revs high pretty well.  Needs some fine tuning and stop backfiring at stop.
The big issue is it will not go into gear.  I reassembled the insides with help from y’all’s posts.  The transfer selector moves from H-L-R, and the foot shifter moves thru the gears and finds neutral easily enough.  Before I tear it back open, the  transfer selector on top does not move as far as the repair manual says.  The diagram shows the shaft moving something like 40 degrees between L and H and 50+ degrees between L and R but it doesn’t move that far even though it finds the indent areas and moves well.
Could this be the problem.  I aligned all the dots on the shifter gears inside and it appeared to not be binding anywhere.  I do hear the gears touching when I shift like they are trying to engage, but zero movement from the ARV
It was somewhat difficult to tell whether all the parts are installed on each shaft.
Are there better/bigger photos somewhere that would allow me to be confident I included all the washers and bushings, etc?  If I had any doubt on parts that were laying inside after the cover broke then I purchased replacements from online stores.
TIA for any input or feedback!!  Pics are from when I first took the generator cover off.

I rebuilt the top end on my 2007 Honda Trx500fe. It ran fine right after the rebuilt. But now when I try to crank it it blows Bach through the carburetor. I held my hand over the opening for the intake air and it blew gas back on my hand. Can figure out what happened all of a sudden. It was cranking and was able to ride it running through all the gears. Now can get it to crank just blowing gas back to the air filter. Need help again. Starting to think I should have walked away from this one.
