4 stroke engines all the same?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys/gals, I’m new to the forum and I’m sure there’s a couple discussions on this topic but I’m gonna open it back up. I’m here to talk about 4 stroke engines, I have a 2002 Suzuki Ozark 250, my first actual ATV. Anyways I’m wondering if all 4 strokes from Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, can-am, and Polaris, are the same set up, just different CC’s

All  their engines  are  similar but their   transmissions and drive systems can have significant  differences  Some  have  gears and clutches ,  both manual  and automatic  and some use  a  belt drive and 2  variable  clutches  to  create  a Continuously Variable Transmission type of  automatic.

  • Ajmboy changed the title to 4 stroke engines all the same?

I added a bit to your topic title to be more descriptive. @davefrombc gave a great answer. Some manufacturers also share engines and engine components. The principle behind a 4 stroke engine and how they function are all the same. You may find similar or even same parts between manufacturers if they contract their engines out to lets say suzuki or their is ownership over the brand.

Starting this build thread to keep up with everything on my build and hope to motivate someone!

I picked up this 2008 Yamaha Big Bear 250 2 weeks ago. A guy that I hunt with parked it at the hunt club for a year or so before I asked him if he wanted to sell. He said " fill my feeder and throw some batteries in my cameras, and you can have it". Sounds like a deal to me!
I have attached some pictures of how it sat under a tarp in the woods and when I got it home and cleaned up a little.

What's the best kids atv out there? I've seen everything from the ones released by the major manufacturers to all those knock offs. Kawasaki has a KFX 50 that is pretty nice for under $1800...

Anyone purchase or check out Rockymtnatv lately? Well I was just browsing over there and they have a pretty cool section called Ten Dollars Or Less. Some interesting things to check out if you are in the market.

Hello, im looking for some input on this situation i have. My 94 Mojave has no spark, and i have no idea what it is. Ive replaced/tested the magneto, the pickup coil, cdi, the ignition coil. Even the key and Killswitch. I haven't tested the harness its self, but i have tried another harness and still nothing. The only thing i can think of is the fly wheel itself. I have found a lot of metal shavings in the fly wheel and have cleaned it the best I could. But nothing happened afterwards. I am truly stumped here and hoping some of yous could shed some knowledge/ideas that could help get this thing to fire.
