junk ranger - 2011 Polaris Ranger 800xp Acceleration Issue

Recommended Posts

2011 ranger 800xp. New fuel pump/plugs and wires.  Idles fine falls flat on its face when accelerating. Acts like you shut the key off and turned back on fast.  Any input would be great

Hi @austinC I moved your topic to the Polaris UTV forum and added the full UTV info and issue, so hopefully you get some help with this.

So just so I understand, it starts fine and idle, but when you give it gas it bogs down? If so, sounds like a fuel starvation issue.

I recently purchased the subject UTV for my kids.  It's my first Polaris (other wheeler is a Teryx4) - and my first-ever single-cylinder vehicle (even my mower has more)...
Valve lash adjustment values... The operating manual recommends verifying at specific intervals, but does not provide the clearances or procedure.  Any idea where I can obtain those? Tach on the display shows about 1500RPM when at idle, and about 6000 when WOT at max speed (30MPH).   Does that seem correct? The engine does not SOUND like it's going that fast, but that may just be my unfamiliarity with single-cylinder engines.  The idle feels mildly rough - and the tach shows a fluctuation of about 50 rpm.  It's not wild, but it is noticeable.  Again, without any point of reference, I do not know if that's just the nature of the beast, or if I should be concerned. The front wheels spin freely in the forward direction (mild brake noise can be heard), but when rotating tires backwards, the brake pads grab the rotor with significant force - making it nearly impossible to turn the rotor by hand.   Considering the cost of new rotors and calipers, I'm hoping there is a know 'fix' for this issue. Any help would be appreciated!  My kids can't wait for me to give it the "all clear".   Still waiting on helmets to arrive from Amazon, so I have a couple of days to get all the maintenance and repairs completed.

While cruising, my 2011 750 king quad suddenly shut down. As it happened, red lights on the display flashed. Any ideas? My head lights suddenly stopped working about a week ago, if that helps. I have no power at all. Thanks

Hey there, i have recently put a new drive belt on my 11 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O.    It has 44 miles since putting the new belt on and should be nearly broken in as i hear it takes 50 miles to do so?  Anyhow it has had a little trouble with slipping since i put the new one on a few months ago. Now whenver i go down a hill the belt seems to be getting caught in one clutch if not both and then it has to run a high rpm just to go a low speed.  Today it did that again going down hill, i stopped, put it in neutral and when going back up the hill i had to turn it off, put it in neutral, let it roll back down the hill a little, then restart it, low range and it was slipping but thankfully i was able to make it up the hill.

So what might the problem be? Is this a need for another new belt? New clutches and belt? Or just get something else? BTW the brand new belt i put on it, is a factory one, an exact replacement for the original.

I'm looking to upgrade to a bigger machine.  I only use my atv when deer hunting and maybe put 5 miles on it per day at most.  Current atv is a 2004 Kawasaki Bayou  250, 2WD, garage kept, nothing special and it still works great.  I'm wanting to upgrade so I can use a small disc for food plots.  I think the 570 would be perfect size.

Knowing the extent of my use, what are your thoughts on the Tracker (Textron) 570?  It's gets me into a bigger machine at a more affordable price than the big name brands.

      Thanks for the input!
