1991 Honda Fourtrax TRX300

Recommended Posts

I was given a 1991 Honda Fourtrax TRX300 that is in fairly good shape for its age and what it was used for.  I got this to rebuild as a hobby project.  What is the best service/shop manual that has parts lists and exploded diagrams so when I go to disassemble I can order the correct parts and get it back together correctly again.

Thanks for the help.

I  have  a  1991 TRX 300 FW  I bought  used  about 5  years ago. So  far , the only major mechanical  repair it has needed  is a new  rear  axle and  wheel hubs. The splines  wearing  out  on them  is a fairly  common problem  for the older machines.  The  hubs  nuts  must be  kept lubricated  and  tight. Mine  wore to the  point the  left  wheel  spun freely on the  axle. I  didn't  notice it because being  full  time  4x4,  it wasn't  obvious until  I   got in a  situation  where  the right  rear wheel was in the  air  and one  wheel  on the front  had  no  traction. My  winch saved the  day, and a new  rear axle  and  hubs  made sure  of no repeat of that problem. The  only  other repair  ?  New  front  brake  shoes.

Here  is a  link to the  shop  manual  for your  TRX 300..  It's  in  the sites  download section.

Thanks for the info.  I downloaded this and it was exactly what I was needing.  Got everything just about disassembled.  found out that the fenders i bought a few years back are not the correct ones.  will need to start a search for the correct ones.

      Hey everybody,

My proficiency is with Hondas and Yamahas make me see RED!

This bike is my brother in law's, it has 1199 miles on it and went from running great to dead with no start. Every once and a while it will start and sputter for 2 seconds. It is extremely sporadic when it fires but never runs for longer than 3 seconds.

      Here is where we sit:
      Brand New Fully Charged battery
Carb was cleaned with air hose and carb cleaner then into the ultrasonic cleaner with Aircraft aluminum cleaner
New Shindy Carb kit (made in Japan version)
Cleaned out petcock and gas tank
      New 93 Non Ethanol Gas
      New Spark Plug

It gets a spark through the spark test light every time
      Bluish white spark
When holding the spark plug 1/4" - 3/8" away from head it will jump and spark to the head
      Good Compression

      Here are the readings:

Pickup Coil 519 Ohms (range 459-561)
Charging Coil 266 Ohms (range 270-330)
      Lighting Coil 0.700 (range 0.702-0.858)
Spark plug Cap 10.58 Ohms (10kohms
Ignition Coil Primary Coil 0.5 ohms (range 0.18-0.28 ohms)
Ignition Coil Secondary Coil 8.20 kOhms (range 6.32-9.48 kOhms)

Would y'all think stator and pick up coil, rectifier or CDI are the culprit?

What's the best kids atv out there? I've seen everything from the ones released by the major manufacturers to all those knock offs. Kawasaki has a KFX 50 that is pretty nice for under $1800...

      Gday all,

Been trying a couple different ways now to download a manual. Not sure what I am doing wrong but could someone walk me thru it?
I go to DL page and click on link
get a pop up for a PDfixer or something
close that and then hit download button and no go
tells me I have reached my limit but I have never DL anything ever.

I see quite a few ads for that  Tribotex additive. It's kind of expensive, has anyone used it it their ATV or any other vehicle?
