Hi all, new to the site but like what I see. I have a 2002 Arctic Cat 500 automatic ATV that has no forward or reverse. I have tried 2wd and 4wd and to no avail. I took the belt cover off and observed that the belt is good and the clutch is operational with acceleration. Am i looking at transmission problems here ? Any advise or help to figure this out before ripping and tearing things apart would be greatly appreciated.

Check that the gearshift lever, on the left side of the motor is moving normally when you operate the shift handle.  If it is, take the belt off, put it in gear and try to turn the driven clutch by hand.  If it turns easily, it's either not going in gear or the input/driven clutch shaft is broken.  I've never seen one of these shafts break but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

Neither drive shaft is moving when you rev it in gear, correct?

Does it sound like it's going in gear when you shift it into gear?

If you're not hearing any sound like it's going into gear, you'll have to pull the left engine cover off and inspect the shift shaft and and gear cam.  The gear cam is pinned to the transmission shaft.  Remove the bolt holding it and make sure the pin isn't sheared.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

I am new to this site. I have a 1987 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport I think. Is there a difference between quadsport and quadrunner?

I'm trying to help a buddy out with his bike (he's not really on the internet or familiar with these forums) and I'll admit that I am not super familiar with the transmission and clutches in these bikes. I owned a Brute a few years ago, but never had an issue like this that I had to troubleshoot.
So basically my buddy bought a group lot of 650's to build one good bike out of. He got it all put together and has it running but when he pushes on the throttle the clutch doesn't engage till the RPM's are quite high and even when its moving it doesn't really speed up, almost seems like its in "limp mode". He's tried 2 different transmissions so I don't think that's the problem.
Is there any adjustment on the clutch engagement? Anything else I can tell him to look at? Let me know if you need anymore information if you think you can help.

Does anyone have a recommendation of a really Heavy Duty ATV cover. I have bought several and they do keep the water off somewhat, but they are very thin and do not contour with the shape very well and water pools up in the rack louvers. I think i may be looking for a heavy canvas one, if anyone has a recommendation it would be greatly appreciated.
