Neighbor dropped off his 2010 Ranger 400 HO. Said it was missing and backfiring. I replaced the plug as it was carboned up (kids use the side x side for chores and it is only idled around yard) Unit ran great, sent back home and it ran great for about 5 hours of run time and then it wouldn't start. He brought it back and I changed the plug again and it would start but would not run great. Pull plug and it was really wet. I suspect the carb needs cleaning and that is the direction I plan on going unless someone else knows anything about these units. ( I have never worked on one of these).

If you know of something else I should check let me know.

Also I am looking for a service manual for this unit.

Thanks

PKR

I would go right to the intake and check there first.   My guess would be something is in there or the air filter is breaking apart and small portions are getting sucked into the carb?  Air filters after a while break apart if they are not kept oiled.   Simple stuff first, after that get into the carburetor etc.

Check for bad fuel, water in the fuel, poor fuel flow. Maybe a bad petcock or screen, all this stuff happens.

Thanks for the reply. I had taken a gas sample from the tank yesterday and it looks good today, no sign of water.

The air filter and everything else looks good. My plan today was to pull the carb but I decided to try to start it first. It fired right up and purred like a pu*** cat. I ran it around the yard for about half an hour and it didn't miss a beat. I'm not to sure what is going on. I'm starting to wonder if the kids are flooding it when they try to start it and sitting out in the cold it isn't clearing itself???

The only difference between it being at the neighbours and being at my place is it is left outside there and is inside my shop here.

I'm going to move it outside tomorrow and let it sit for the day to see what happens.

Could be moisture getting into certain electrical components if its left outside  or just like you said, the kids flooded it.  Give everything a once over and make sure all plugs are good etc.  maybe run some high test fuel and monitor the machine for a bit.

Okay so I bought this 1997 sazuki king quad from a guy and he had it for a few years.
He had it registered and on the trails last year but he said it bogged and backfired when he would try to drive it. so it sat for a year.
I bought it for 800 bucks and got it running that night and it ran great for a few days
But I parked it the other night and went to start it again and it was really hard to fire up and when I did it was bogging and idling high then low again.
So I took the carb out and cleaned it (ended up doing it twice because it was still doing the same thing)
Now today I have it running slightly better, but it is still like 20%
I have been looking it up and trying to figure it out but I can't find the issue, has anyone else had this problem? I'll attach a video of it running and giving some throttle

Just purchased the subject 150.  It makes a crunchy chunky sound when reversing. There was a lot of slack on the chain so I assume that was it, but when I took the chain off I noticed that the transmission output shaft has a lot of slop in it. I have to assume that's not normal. Can anyone confirm?
