Do you have to let off the gas pedal when shifting gears on a semi auto transmission. ATV has 5 manual gears but no clutch. So can i just change them as I am holding down the gas throttle with out damaging the transmission. Thanks

Just got over the weekend and can't even get a sputter from it starter clutch missing the top idler so it's pull rope only. Seems to have plenty of compression and it has spark when checked with plug out
I've spray starting fluid directly in carburetor and while manually opening up the choke still nothing not even trying to start. Changed the plug as well. I'm going to order the starter clutch idler and anything else bad or missing but I want to at least hear it stumble or something but I tear apart. Carburetor was nasty and I'm getting cleaned up nice. I have fuel, spark, and compression. Even tried to spray in cylinder then stick the plug back in.
With all that in mind what else can stop it from even trying

I have a 2005 Yamaha Kodiak 400 Automatic. It has an oil leak inside clutch cover. The middle gear has two oil seals, the front seal is leaking engine oil into clutch area. How do you change the leaking seal?

My Arctic Cat ATV started sputtering and backfiring and losing power on acceleration and sometimes die. It idles perfectly. I thought it may be the carburetor float sticking and would knock on the bowl and it would run great again for a while. It then started doing the same thing but I began hearing a loud knocking like low octane knock. This is intermittent and does not knock all the time. Thinking it was the carburetor float and possibly an obstruction in the jets I cleaned the tank and carburetor and put a new kit in. Still had the same problem. Bought a new OEM carburetor It still has the same problem at any adjustment? It also seems to improve a small amount when carburetor is disconnected from the filter system. I am starting to think it may be something else causing this possible a Coil or electrical? I would appreciate an experienced reply. I do have automotive shade tree experiences but this has me scratching my head. Thanks in advance!
