Got sleeve honed and a bigger piston and immediatly destroyed it

Recommended Posts

Didn't have it fully tucked in and tapped it in with some muscle, as I did it I thought it was way to tight but I couldn't see that rings sticking out so I thought I was good.

Well the oil ring didn't get that damaged being fitted...  So what happened to it ?

Youch..

Most bikes you hardly need a ring compressor, and on a lot of them a ring compressor won't work, or at least, a lot of ring compressor designs won't work on them, because the sleeves have a big gentle taper at the bottom..

It was probably caused by letting the barrel lean over on the piston as it was going on, pressing the ring in on one side and allowing it to pop out on the other side. You need to get two fingers in under the piston to hold it flat as you slide the barrel down over it..

Interesting, I do recall the piston going in at a slight angle, I think I'll try to make a forked wedge to place between the piston and lower engine to keep it strait cause both the sleeve and the piston moved around to much when I was try ING to reinstall, guess I got spoiled with my Hondas lol

Yeah nah..  that's a bummer alright..  You'll get it this time.

My son's just working on a crf, a four stroke motocross bike, and it's piston is huge and only about thirty mills high to the bottom of it's skirt..  and the skirt is all cut away except for the two sides. That will be a tricky one..

I’m looking for a top end kit for a Yamaha. I would like to see how well the engine runs before spending $6-$7 hundred on oem. Niche has complete kits from $1-$2 hundred.  Anyone have experience with Niche or similar Chinese companies?

Does anyone use GPS, whether on a device or app to record their ATV trail rides? I have been thinking about a section where our members can upload let's say a .gpx file and share their rides on a google map for others to see where there are riding areas. Not sure if this is something of interest or how much it would be used, so just trying to get an idea.

So I've got a Hisun 550 (clone of a Yamaha Rhino 660) that I was doing some work on that required removing the CVT and it's housing. Upon attempting to reinstall the clutch, sheaves, etc, I found that the belt no longer fits - it's far too wide. None of the parts have been replaced, they're all OEM. Exactly the same parts as what I took off a few weeks ago.
To be more specific, my belt is 1.25in wide, but the gap between the clutch and the primary sheave is only 7/8in wide. I'll include a few photos to explain.
Has anyone ever experienced such a bizarre problem? Any help at all would be appreciated, I've been stuck on this for a month. I'm open to just about any suggestion.
