Polaris sportsman 400 4x4 testing

I tested the stock OEM coil, and got 25ohms.  But even after applying voltage, I cant get anything to magnetize to the coil  Does anyone have a way of testing the 4x4 on-demand coil?

I replaced a bad coil. I get 12 volts coming out of the wiring harness, but the coils don't activate.  What else could be causing the 4x4not to engage on the front wheels?

You have replaced the bad coil you have 12 volts, it sounds like your magnetic lockup in the hub may be sticking, you may have to pull the hub off to see if that is working properly.

I had to pull the hub off to replace the mag coil, and everything seem nice in the hub components. The strap was still binding all the components together. Didn’t seem like anything was missing or worn.  I attached two manual pics that say the wheels won’t engage if the rear wheels don’t lose traction. Not sure how to test that other than going up a slippery hill and waiting for the rear the break lose?

Yup..  that's how to test it.  Or jack the rear end up ?

They detect a difference in speed between the front and rear and then engage.. So if you jack the rear up on a trolley jack, or jack it up and rest it under the frame on some planks it can slide along, and put it in gear it should start trying to pull itself along by the front wheels.

 So is it not working or you havent been in the right circumstances for the front wheels to engage. Interesting, they dont call it 4 wheel drive in the manual , they call it allwheel drive.

Like a subaru..  Probably because you can leave it turned on all day long and it will only engage when it's needed.. 

I'm suspicious about them. In trucks with automatic free wheel hubs on the front end they are a dangerous trap for the unwary. If you start up a slippery slope they engage, but if it gets too slippery and you have to back down they disengage themselves allowing the brakes to lock up the front wheels and causing the vehicle to go out of control..  The only "safe" way of backing down is to move into reverse and then boot it in reverse and don't throttle off till you get to the bottom.
