Hey all, I just picked up this Massimo UTV for $500. Got it home and replaced the starter solenoid which successfully got power to the starter. Starter spun but engine didn't turn over although the engine is not locked up. I thought it was a bad starter. Got a new starter put on today and it does the same thing. Pulled the clutch cover and saw the engine is trying to turn over but something is slipping and not letting it turn over. I figured it must be the gear on the engine that the starter turns. Where can I get that and can it be replaced without pulling the motor? And am I correct that that's the issue?

Thanks!

Yes it sounds like the sprag clutch is slipping. Those often come right with a good wash. The tiniest bit of metal dust is enough to make then slip..

Did I say metal dust.. !!

Yep the starter clutch was shot and the 3 allen bolts holding it together were stripped out and the whole thing was loose and falling apart. You need a special socket to remove the nut holding the clutch on. I didn't realize until it was too late that the nut was a left hand thread. I either stripped out that nut or the crankshaft 🙁

Thats bad news. I hate it when that happens. I have fixed many cranks with bad threads, first i get the correct die for the threads on the crank and try that first, it will work if it hasnt obliterated the threads closest to the engine and if it has i have gotton away with using an extra washer there to keep the nut from getting on the area with no threads.

You'll have trouble getting a left hand thread die though quite likely.. There's a thing called a "thread file", that's what you want.. It'll cut whichever you aim it. They come in different threads but you'll probably only need one file and the eight threads it does will do everything on the bike.

Other than that.. What Gw says.

I am new to this site. I have a 1987 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport I think. Is there a difference between quadsport and quadrunner?

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

So we are almost a month into winter and I've been so busy working on my house that up until today, I didn't realize that we just haven;t gotten any real snow yet to warrant putting the plow on my grizzly. So that got me thinking, what are the latest plows out there and what ATV plows are the best? I've got 2 snow plows for my grizzly, a quadboss pile driver atv plow set up and a snowsport ATV plow. They are both a bit dated now and I tend to stick with the snowsport due to ease of use and I just like it so much. So if you have a plow on your ATV, please let us know what it is and post a picture with your atv/plow would be awesome. Would also like to know what you like and dislike about it.
This is back a while when I did a write up on these 2 plows.... in 2009 I got the snowsport and in 2012 I got the quadboss.
