After hitting a double at my practice track friday i notice a loud noise coming from the carrier and it sounds like the chain is goin to pop off could it be the axle bearing may have gone bad?

Hmmmm,,,,,,Is everything tight?????

Not sure how the Carrier is in there......Is there Two Bolts on the Back side of the Swinger to Loosen to get the carrier out????....Is the Axle tight???? Is the Axle Bent???? Were there noises before or did the noises just suddenly happen??? When did you last lube your Bearings???

Seems to me that when the Bearings go bad it wont be just a Sudden "Noise" but rather a Gradual one....Do you see any Rubbing (metal to Metal)anywhere???? Any Cracks in the Swinger itself???

Post up some pictures.....

the noise started after i land a double at the track and the noise has been getting louder the axle isnt bent theres 4 allen head bolts you have to loose to tighten the chain up i tightened the chain up thinking that was the problem b/c it was loose but that wasnt it, i still think its the bearings, i have never greased them b/c theres no fittin to grease them with. theres no rubbing or cracksyou can hear it it coming from inside the housing

Sounds like the bearings, Jack the back off the ground and grab the wheels and try to rock them front to back to check for play. And spin them and see if you can hear or feel any raspyness coming from the carrier

OK if you can't turn the axle by hand then you have found it. Get it fixed QUICK before you ruin a clutch or worse!!!

Sounds like at least one bearing committed suicide, so you wanna get that apart right away! You don't want busted parts floating around in there- if it locks up, it could pitch you into or OVER the bars = NOT GOOD. Hopefully your chain is OK but you may need a new one as well [stretched] if you don't replace it it will ruin your sprockets, then you gotta buy the whole shebang all over again. Get the Manual! you'll need it. sorry about your luck! If you don't have a grease zerk on the swingarm [they are typically underneath on those] I have seen instructions on how/where to install one- a GOOD idea . I'll try and find that post for you.

Tear that puppy apart before it gets any worse. OK? let us know!!! inquiring minds want to know!

I'm in the middle of repairing damage from the chain coming off of this from the previous owner. (I learned this is somewhat common on these for various reasons.)
What are you guys using to either help keep the chain correct and on the sprocket or guarding your engine in the case that it comes off / breaks?
Is there an upgraded guard that can bolt around the sprocket in replacement of the currently broken OEM alluminum?

Hi All.  I introduced myself some weeks ago with my 2006 LT-F400F that needed a list of repairs including replacing the cracked generator cover.  It is back together as of last night and cranks up, idles and revs high pretty well.  Needs some fine tuning and stop backfiring at stop.
The big issue is it will not go into gear.  I reassembled the insides with help from y’all’s posts.  The transfer selector moves from H-L-R, and the foot shifter moves thru the gears and finds neutral easily enough.  Before I tear it back open, the  transfer selector on top does not move as far as the repair manual says.  The diagram shows the shaft moving something like 40 degrees between L and H and 50+ degrees between L and R but it doesn’t move that far even though it finds the indent areas and moves well.
Could this be the problem.  I aligned all the dots on the shifter gears inside and it appeared to not be binding anywhere.  I do hear the gears touching when I shift like they are trying to engage, but zero movement from the ARV
It was somewhat difficult to tell whether all the parts are installed on each shaft.
Are there better/bigger photos somewhere that would allow me to be confident I included all the washers and bushings, etc?  If I had any doubt on parts that were laying inside after the cover broke then I purchased replacements from online stores.
TIA for any input or feedback!!  Pics are from when I first took the generator cover off.

I rebuilt the top end on my 2007 Honda Trx500fe. It ran fine right after the rebuilt. But now when I try to crank it it blows Bach through the carburetor. I held my hand over the opening for the intake air and it blew gas back on my hand. Can figure out what happened all of a sudden. It was cranking and was able to ride it running through all the gears. Now can get it to crank just blowing gas back to the air filter. Need help again. Starting to think I should have walked away from this one.
