I just got this 80 cc Raptor for my son, I hope he can handle it! (he's 8) He's never had to shift before, any tips on teaching him? We are going out this weekend and he doesn't know this is for him yet! :D There is a picture of it in my gallery, I don't know how to add it to my post.

Very cool,,,,I almost went with the 80 but got the Honda 90 instead.... Start him out in the Flats with the Bike....Get him to up Shift under Acceleration Turn and head back to you....Then tell him by the time he gets back to you he needs to be in first gear...Then take him out on some Small Rolling Hills That he has to Down shift to Ascend....Thats what I did with my oldest....Seemed to work Fine for him but everyone is Different....;)

Thanks everyone for being interested...

I posted the pic of his face when he realized the new quad was for him....It took a few minutes for it to sink in! LOL He did really well, but dad did have to adjust the shift lever up a bit since his foot was too small to reach it! We also limited the throttle down so he wouldn't get too carried away. They built a mini track next to camp, and my 3.5 year old even did a few laps on the 50. My camera acted up, so I have to wait to get more pics off the video camera~ I'll post them when I do!

That's good your 3 1/2 year old can use it too. Can't wait to see more pics.

He got shifting down pretty well! he followed my husband around on the trails, and when my husband shifted up or down he held out the number of fingers for what gear my son should be in to remind him. Next time we have to work on him shifting without looking down, lol ~ I guess he hasn't figured out his foot works without watching it! I'd love to make the Pismo trip, just don't know if we can get off work to go...

That sounds great! He'll have it down in no time. My son went from a quad he had to shift to an automatic. I don't know how that will eventually affect him. He wants a manual clutch quad. I just got my first manual clutch one and haven't even gotten it out on the trail yet.

I'm working on a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 400 with shift indicator problems. The indicator panel only will show Neutral and Reverse. If it's in High or Low, the indicator will show "R".
I have replaced the three position indicator switch on the transmission. There is also a two position switch on the tranny that I didn't replace. If anyone is familiar with this problem, please let me know what I need to do. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I recently purchased a raptor 80 for my grandson for  christmas. I am trying to make sure it is running properly. i have rebuilt the carb and adjusted the carb idle then the mixture to middle of where it runs rough and it runs great for about a min or 2. then it stalls out. I can usually choke it and it will start so i feel it is lacking fuel. the fuel shutoff valve has been changed and i checked it for good fuel flow.  any ideas of what to check next. I am planning to vfy fuel float height tomorrow. I visually checked it by turning carb upside down when i had it apart and it looked level. any ideas are appreciated.

      Thanks.

I got a 2005 350 Raptor Special Edition and I'm dealing with a no start issue; the weirdest thing is when I'm cranking it fires and slows down showing signs of pre firing, smoke shoots out the carburetor every time it sparks. every electrical part (CDI, Rectifier, Stator, Coil) has been swapped out from previous owner, the top end of the engines all new and I cleaned the carb out, anyone got any ideas or similar problems, also is it possible to have a bad spark timing

I have replaced the cracked stator cover on my non-running 2006 LT-F400F that I purchased recently, checked all the shafts vs the service manual and pics and advice here.  I replaced missing gears, bushings and washers, made sure that truth marks were all aligned properly, that the shift cam springs felt like they returned properly, etc.  IAfter installing the new stator cover I checked the transfer lever for proper movement from L-H-R and then cranked it up.  Happily, it runs and changes gears well in L,  but it will not shift into H or R for anything.  I have opened it back up and am going back through it looking for the missing puzzle piece(s) but how can I best check that I have everything right this time before buttoning it back up?

I'm sure this has been tossed around on here numerous times but with the unveiling of the new KTM fuel injected 2 stroke. Could this be the first step in a come back for my beloved double ding ding machines. Ok lets hear it. Why do you like one or the other??? Myself, I always felt it was the throttle control and Powerband response with the 2 strokes. I know this sounds weird but on a 4 stroke, no matter size or model. I always felt like i was along for the ride instead of in control. I've spent hours on my buds 400EX, even took a new 450r for a spin. before they discontinued them. Blasters, Banshees, and a number of 125's, 250's and even one late 80's Honda XR250R... Results all the same. For me its a comfort and control that im used to with the 2 strokes.... and i love the smell of bean oil... So lets hear it. Im sick of arguing with same two people at work on this issue.
