Hey guys,

Could anyone with a king quad 300 verify whether or not the exhaust header pipe becoming cherry red 1" to 2" from the cylinder is normal while holding mid throttle position? :skeptic: Temperature will drop and redness disipates upon returning to idle for about 1 min.

-Only noticable at night

-Cleaned all vent tubes

-carb is rebuilt, set to factory except the needle is raised one position(lowered the eclip on slot), needle adjustment resolved missing and popping

-pump is good

-no vac leaks

-Sprayed carb cleaner around everything, no stumble

Thanks Everyone! Great Forum! Great People!

Welcome to the site. What year is your Kingquad? We would like to add it to the title.

Anyway, mid throttle is going to be the area most affected by a needle adjusment, and since you went richer, I think you are probably ok as long as every thing is stock. I know my friends TRX 450R gets a little red in the head pipe after a hard ride. It is normal for some machines I guess. I would keep an eye on the plug, to make sure your fuel mix is ok. Does this happen when you are riding, or sitting still and holding the throttle open? if you are just sitting still while you hold the throttle at mid-range, there will be no breeze blowing over the motor as there would be when you are actually riding.

Thanks Josh, its a 97 King Quad.

The red occurs both sitting still under light to mid throttle, and riding(20-30mph max speed). I shut my garage doors allowing lighting to become dim enough to watch the glow develop, thats when it sits still.

-Red can only be seen at night, not hot enough to glow in the daylight.

-Allowing the motor to idle cools the exhaust and the red dissipates.

-Everything is factory.

-Lots of power starts easy

I will check the plug and google plug chop as listed in a previous thread. Would you advise richening the mixture via a/f screw?

Thanks,

Mike

The fuel screw is really only going to affect idle and just off idle performance. Mid throttle mixture is mostly affected by needle taper and position. I think you are fine, as long as the machine runs ok, I would leave it be and check the plug from time to time just to see how it is doing.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

I Was Riding By Myself. I was going through a Mud HOLE Either there was a log or a rock, or A Dip but just as I was almost through it, Machine, Rolled over on my right side, as soon as I contacted the ground, I Heard A SNAP! I got up, flipped the Quad back over. I had the wind knocked out of me.

I've been trying to piece this Lakota 300 back together, slowly. It's been a rabbit hole however. I replace one thing, then it leads to replacing other things. Anyway, When I got this thing I noticed that the hose coming off the camshaft cover wasn't attached to anything, it was just hanging loose. (It's literally just a foot long hose attached to nothing) I figured since it was venting the head it would be ok and I am sure it is.
However, last night I was looking at the service manual and noticed that it mentioned that this atv has a crankcase breather tube as well. Mine does not have one, so I looked at Partzilla and looked at the parts diagram and sure enough, it's definitely supposed to have one. The problem however is, the service manual does not show how it hooks up and the parts diagram only shows the exploded view of the assembly. I just find that kind of strange, nowhere in the manual does it show how it connects. Does it have it connector, attach to a nipple? It just doesn't say and it bothers me that there is a hole there without anything attached to it.  If anyone has a Bayou 300 or Lakota 300 with an intact breather vent system and could possibly take some clear photos of it or know how it connects I would be very grateful. I have searched high and low and cannot find any information on it.

      Thanks
