It seems to me that you may need to drive it more.......It could be that it is upset with you for leaving it alone too much.....lol......Mine was suffering the same but now it will be sorry........The storm just hit and the plow is hooked up.......Time to feed her and take her out for some exercise.

I am having the same problem on a 2004 Kodiak 400 4x4.  The drain on the bottom of the carb bowl is leaking a steady stream of gas - exactly as illustrated above.

i bought a new carb off Amazon and installed.  The new carb is leaking the exact same way.

The quad sat for awhile before all this started so it was also having a hard time firing.  I changed the spark plug and now it fires up the easiest when the fuel knob is set to off.  When I turn the fuel knob to on it wants to die and the carb immediately starts leaking again.

I know this is an old thread but it is still applicable.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

You should check the tank and the carb breather hoses are attached correctly, and clear. If they are in order then I think you need to take the carb off and clean the float needle seat and carb drillings.

I confirmed the tank breather hoses were attached correctly and clear and then realized I swapped the bottom gas inlet hose and the upper breather hose.

After I reconfigured the quad is running like new.  However I did discover that gas leaked into the oil.  New oil and filter in order.

Thank you Mech!

I generally warm bikes up and the fuel evaporates real quick..  I don't ride them but just let them sit with the idle a little high.. The type of bearings they have don't require pressure but flow, and the thinned oil doesn't do any harm in a short time of running..

Depends how full of oil they are though of course..  haha.. If the level's so high it will be a problem in itself (crank dipping into the oil and splashing/turning it to a mist), then I drain it..And change it.

I am having the same problem right now.........With this garbage fuel that they are selling us, it is important to put a good additive in the fuel to keep your carberator from gumming up.......I think the ethynol in the gas turns to gunk when the machine sits for a while and it can make your seats sticky causing the float to hang up.......I have never had these problems before they ruined the fuel with corn juice.

You are correct on the fuel issue. Ethanol is a hydroscopic fluid and will attract moisture out of the air. The big issue with Ethanol is that it will mix with gasoline but it will not combine with gasoline, what this means is that the gasoline and Ethanol will separate if left still. The  sloshing around keeps them mixed when driving. When a vehicle sits for a month or so the Ethanol and moisture it's collected goes to the bottom of the tank and that's where the fuel pickup is. The bottom line is now you have water in your carb. Always use a fuel additive/stabilizer to your fuel

Hi guys, I have a 2004 big bear 400. Last winter while plowing the driveway, I heard a loud pop from the left side of the engine. It continued to run as I looked for leaky fluid, but then died shortly after backing it up and won’t start now. The oil light comes on when I try to start it, no noise or anything else.
No blown fuses that I can find.
