1999 Yamaha Kodiak heel toe shifter

I'm hoping someone can help me with this....I purchased a heel toe shifter on Ebay for my 99 Kodiak 4wd. The problem is the linkage from the stock shifter to the shift arm on the trans case is pressed into the shift lever. You can't remove it and I can't install the new shift lever without the linkage hooked up. Does anyone know a way to make this work??

It comes off there somehow, you may need to get a look at a repair manual to see how it is done. Maybe try calling a dealer tech or visiting your local dealership, I'm sure they will know how to get it off.

This is on OLD thread, but maybe my answer could help others who have similar problem.

Yes, it should slide off. I bought a heel toe shifter for my 1998 Yamaha Big Bear. I removed the bolt of the existing toe shifter and my toe shifter slid off with a little pulling. Try spraying it with PB Blaster and/or use a flat head screw driver to pry between the open side of where it clamps on. It you can pry the clamp mouth open a tad, it may make it loose enough to pull off the splined shaft. Just be careful not to damage the splines on the shaft.
