So I noticed there's a part here that doesnt have a hose or anything going to it and its spills out oil like crazy. I dont see a hose or anything that would go to it so I was wondering what is actually suposoe to go there. Any help is greatly appreciated!
For some of us that live in the northern states with brutal winters, spring often means warmer weather and the ability to run a garden hose without the fear of water freezing up. For everyone in more warmer climates or those in the southern states that have never even seen snow, you may already be using your garden hose or power washer all year long 😁! So in the spirit of Spring and Spring Cleaning, we decided to take a look at what products exist out there specifically for ATV cleaning, washing off the mud, and general care. ATV bodies are plastic in most cases, and it's important not to use abrasive chemicals or hard brushes, so you don't scuff up the plastic...let the trail riding do that for you, you won't get a shortage of scratches from all the trees and branches if you're riding in the woods! For those of you that like to do some ATV mud'ing, you've probably already adopted a routine for cleaning your ATV after mud-bogging a bit and may have a favorite product you already use. Some even use basic soap and water or a basic car wash. Hey, if it works for you great!
For the purpose of this article, we are going to look at some of the items available on the market and encourage our members to reply with what they use and what they like. Don't forget to let us know where you buy it. You can buy car wash products in stores like Advance Auto Parts, Autozone, and Walmart and also online auto parts sellers like Auto Anything, Auto Barn, and Amazon. Let's take a look at some OffRoad ATV Washes...

Alco Dirt Bike and ATV Wash 1 Gallon

Hopefully for those that were not aware of specific ATV washes, this gives you some idea of what is out there. Keep your ATV clean by washing down the plastics, undercarriage/frame and tires. Some go as far as little tire protectant and shine as well as plastic protectant. However you do it, have fun and think of it as prepping your ATV for the next ride...don't leave a dirty ATV in the garage!

TRACKER’s legendary revolution rolls on…
The TRACKER Off Road announcement is considered to be among the most significant since the company’s historic launch more than 40 years ago. In 1978, avid young angler and Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris revolutionized the marine industry when he introduced the world's first professionally rigged and nationally marketed boat, motor and trailer packages. The innovative approach suddenly made the joy of fishing and boating more affordably available to millions of families. TRACKER Boats quickly became and has remained the number one selling fishing boat brand in America.
Today, the company’s marine manufacturing division – now known as White River Marine Group – is the largest manufacturer of boats in the world by volume, manufacturing quality boats offering performance, innovation and value with world-class service with an unsurpassed collection of industry-leading brands.
The legend lives on as TRACKER OFF ROAD customers will be able to rely on the brand’s renowned customer friendly shopping process, extensive network of authorized service centers for all their vehicular needs, from the purchase and installation of TRACKER OFF ROAD accessories to maintenance, service and support for their vehicles. More information will be available in the coming weeks and months.

In this video, Jonathan describes how he cleaned a Nikasil plated cylinder.
Aluminum cylinders are often coated with a harder material such as Nikasil (Nickel Silicon Carbide). Over time, the softer aluminum of the pistons can rub off onto the cylinder. When rebuilding the top-end, this should be cleaned off.
This can be done using hydrochloric acid which reacts with aluminum to produce hydrogen gas and aluminum chloride, which washed off with water. Since Nikasil is resistant to corrosion, it is undamaged and protects the cylinder during this process.
Here is the chemical reaction:
2 Al (s) + 6 HCl (aq) → 2 AlCl3 (aq) + 3 H2 (g)

Thought I'd throw this one in the club section to help raise the lack of activity here. I'm fixing up a '00 Bayou 220 that I picked up last weekend; needs the carb rebuilt, at least that's all I was hoping it needed. Anyways, decided to check the battery, starter, spark, all that jazz so I was good to go when I got the carb fixed.. and that's when I found an intermittent short in the start switch as well as the headlight switch. So I removed the switch housing from the handlebar to find this:
I dismantled the entire assembly, blew it all out with compressed air, cleaned everything including the corroded contacts, and then reassembled it all making sure to put dielectric grease on all the exposed electrical. It looks 1000x better than before and everything works as it should (though I think I installed the kill switch backwards lol).
My question is this: Is that good enough? As a former auto mechanic, I'd always seal any external electronics to prevent dirt, moisture, etc from getting in. However, the design of the housing doesn't really make this possible. I'm not trying to make this thing 100% submersible, but with the switch being old/original I'd like to know it won't fail on me if I get caught in a downpour or something.
