1999 grizzly 600 winter starting problem

Hi I have a 1999 grizzly 600 and in the summer time it runs great cranks on the first try. But in the winter it will not crank with the starter but if you can pull the crank rope hard enough it will crank. Can anyone tell me why this happens? Thanks

Bad starter....weak maybe? Really dirty...oily etc??

The starter is good I have had it checked. One guy told me it might be the cdi box but the Yamaha place told me the only way to check the cdi box is to let them check everything else on the bike and if nothing is bad then its the cdi. That sounded a little weird to me.

The first thing I would check is that battery. Same issue on my grizzly 660, I had to replace the battery.
