I have a 95 kodiak 400 it starts and runs at idle and top end but in the mid-range it spits and backfires. I have put a rebuild kit in it and also the diaphram on the side to no avail.Still does the same thing.

Am looking for a carb but cant find one. Did find one from a 350 warrior but not sure if it will fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:aargh:

An update : I got it to run good at idle and in the mid range pretty good at top end but it seams to run out of gas at top end .I have the float set at aprox. 1/2" and have noticed gas coming out of the (guess its a vent hole) on the air box side of the carb when sitting not running it keeps flowing out of this hole . I have tried different float settings and this problem keeps comimng back. ANY help would be great.....

Warning - i know nothing about carbs im an EFI person. But i read a few threads were leaking fuel was caused by a needle not seating properly. You rebuilt the carb correct? Did you rejet it? Maybe there is a lil gook holding it open

Yes I belive I did it correctly ,the jets that came in the kit were not the right size so i have the origenal jets in. I am not sure about the plastic main nozzle tube thinking it may be cracked? The fuel seams to seap out with the machine not running ,it comes out through the vent hole on the airbox side of the carb and is fine when it is running .Does seam to be running lean maybe float to tight.

Ok, here is what I see, you do not leak gas when running cause the quad is using the gas, it over fills when not running cause you are not using the gas for the motor...end result, check the float, it is sticking allowing gas to build up and overflow.

I picked up this ATV that had no spark. The previous owner said he was driving it and it died and would not start. He discovered it had no spark. He replaced the CDI and the coil with no luck. He got tired of it and I bought it. I replaced the stater and now it has strong spark. Now, it starts for a second or two then dies. It will not stay running. I have checked the timing and it is spot on. The valves are adjusted correctly. I see no warn issues with the cam. I put the original CDI and coil back on it. Same problem exists. Compression is at 65 psi (has decompression mechanism),
I took off the muffler in case the issue was clogged pipes. No change. I replaced the spark plug. No change. The carb was an aftermarket so I put a Niche carb on with no change. I bypassed the fuel pump and that did nothing to solve the problem.
I don't know if this is a carb issue or an ignition issue. I am looking around locally for an OEM carb to try out but not sure that will fix the problem.
Can anyone help me solve this problem. I am running out of ideas.
      Thank you for your time

Did a top end rebuild, honed .010 over, new piston, rings, valve seals, etc. When i re assembled i only had like 30 psi of compression but then after it sat all night i now it seems to have gained some somehow, there is much more resistance pulling it over and i even got it to fire for a few pops. Issue i got is that it makes a loud squeak noise through the intake i believe (goes away when throttled so something with carb area) and it seems to not want to run well. I took head cover back off and timing seems fine so im not sure if something is sticky and that's why i got some change over time or maybe the valve lash is messed up after doing all this, i did get another cam for it but i wouldnt think it would make enough difference to need to re lash. Any insight on next step would be appreciated, i will be looking up how to do lash on these because it is a very weird angle to slip a feeler gauge in.
Actually cam is slightly off now that i look at the picture, thought it was good while looking in person. Hmm.

As the title says I am on the search for a used OEM 1995 King Quad Carb. I believe it says Mikuni on the side. If you could even help me find info on which carb it is exactly that would be helpful too, or motorcycles/other quads that use the same carb. Thanks!

I rebuilt the top end on my 2007 Honda Trx500fe. It ran fine right after the rebuilt. But now when I try to crank it it blows Bach through the carburetor. I held my hand over the opening for the intake air and it blew gas back on my hand. Can figure out what happened all of a sudden. It was cranking and was able to ride it running through all the gears. Now can get it to crank just blowing gas back to the air filter. Need help again. Starting to think I should have walked away from this one.
