who builds the drive train for these? they resemble yamaha alot i think... ???

Kazuma

From what the UK dealers say the CVT is Honda designed, not sure about the rest of the quad. My friend is a ex RAF engineer (so slightly mechanically minded) and he bought a little Falcon 90cc for his son which he's very pleased with. He was of the impression the engines are a Honda design, and built under licence, but I'm unsure about this.

I know it could be handy knowing if any of the parts are interchangeable with big brand names, as if theres something thats known to be a weak spot you could always replace with a main brand part. That said you never know these days they could all be made in same factory! lol

My advice would be to try and order some parts for it before you buy it. See if common items such as bearings, bushings, and fuel system parts/controlers are easily available. You might be able to save a grand or two now but will the repairs cost you more in the long run.

Also check and see what the resale values have been.

I am a firm believer that every brand has a pro and a con, just make sure you know what you are getting into.

Ok thank you, I've looked into spare parts back up and they have all the parts to build a machine up from scratch, which I was impressed with. As there aren't so many of these quads around in the UK it's difficult to get an idea of second hand values.

Must admit I've always taken the view it's cheap for a reason, but that said I can't really justify spending £8500.00 on an equiverlent big brand one, when I can get a Jaguar 500 for £2995.00 with 1 years parts and labour warranty.

Thanks swampcat07 I'm hoping to test ride the Jaguar 500 in the next few weeks so once I have I'll put an update on here. In the mean time doing as much research on the net as possible.

Well just a quick update, I've just had a test ride on a Kazuma, and I'm left undecided. It's basically old Honda designed technology. It was OK, but I can't say I was left reaching for my card to pay a deposit. Maybe I've been spoilt by big brand quads I've ridden. To make matters even more confusing I went to my local Polaris & Yamaha dealer yesterday to look at quads, but they had the new Ranger RZR 900 in which caught my eye....

it would be a really tough decision to stray me away from the big brands for any of the knock-offs that are less expensive. 99% of the time you get what you pay for in my opinion. i just had a friend buy a rhino knock-off and he paid about 2/3's of a new yamaha rhino. he only has 125kms on it (3 outings) and is still unusable. broken rims, bad electrical components, water pump... the list goes on. he is one of those guys that are very gentle on his equipment too. now the 'astro' dealer has picked up and moved out, leaving him with a nice boat anchor. you know an established name brand dealer won't leave you stranded like that, or wouldn't dare...

not saying all knock-offs are like this, but be wary...

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

I’m brand new to 4 wheelers and just bought a 1987 Yamaha Moto 4 350. It has good compression and fuel, but no spark. I’ve looked high and low trying to find how to test all the components of the ignition system, but can’t find anything. This has a new CDI box on it, but I suspect it might be the stator. How do I test the stator on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i just picked this up. was told ran fine but overheating issues led to replacing head gasket and head. has not ran since. he is not a mechanic but helped someone else who he could not get back to finish job, got aggravated and put up for sale. i was thinking timing issues. i have 110-120psi on all 3 cylinders so i think valves are correct. dont know about distributor yet. however i have no spark. i have no power going to ignition coil. tried to follow white wire but gets lost in wire harness. does anyone have a wiring diagram? can anyone tell me what conditions have to be met before starting. motor turns over so i would think all safeties are met but you never know.

I bought a 1996 Sportsman 500 4x4 about a month ago, and I love it. Unfortunately, I've been experiencing a few problems with the high-range gear. The first problem is that the gear selector will intermittently pop out of high and into neutral. This problem will sometimes occur when starting from a stop and sometimes will also occur while at cruising speed. The last time this happened I stopped and put it back into gear, however, as soon as I tried to throttle the machine would die. I turned it on again with no problems put it back into high and it died again. Once again I turned it on with no problems put it into low instead and it worked fine with no problem. I drove in low down the road slowly for a little and then shifted back into high with no issues.
I plan on working on it this weekend and would just like some opinions or feedback from anyone who may have experienced these problems before. I'm very mechanically inclined but im unsure of exactly where to start as this is the first Polaris ATV that I've owned. Any feedback is appreciated and thanks in advance
