the title is your ownership slip if it is registered. the bill of sale is just the paper you needed to register the bike. if you don't have either, i think you can go to a dmv and swear it is yours, and they'll run the serial numbers to validate a certificate or ownership. just like a car ot truck ...

if you don't have the title, go to the dmv with the serial numbers and get a new one, provided it isn't on the 'hot sheet' .... they'll charge you a few bucks to do it, but then you'll have peace of mind if you need to insure it or sell it ...

i know that my state (indiana ) required titles on atvs and dirtbikes from 1996 to current .. most new machines sold come with a certificate of origin and then you the buyer had to send the papers off t get the title ... alot of buyers didnt do that after they got there machines unless they had a loan on them then the bank or loan company required them to do so... in indiana you can get the atv registered with a bill of sale .. then you can file for a title for it and it costs about $50.00 to get it ..
