New guy, old 200x restoration

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

bought a non running 200x I assume to be 83-85. Told by PO that it stopped running suddenly, now kick start is jammed. I assume timing chain called it a day. Bought for my daughter to do a mild resto. I run Rokon's and old Wr430 Huskys myself.

Any thoughts, ideas and randon knowledge is always appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Bud

Thank you.

She's bound up tight. I'm pulling the motor now, toss the rest in the shed for sandblasting later. Looks like no cracks, leaks or other bad indicators. Cam bushings seem to be an issue, so will look at them first. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Seems the rocker adjustment screw backed off and fell out. Got lodged near the bushing area of the cam and did some damage. The chain was snapped also. Pop the side cover next to see whats lying around in there.

      Hello,
I recently picked up an ‘07 KFX 700. All was going well, rode it about 40 miles, when it started bogging at low speeds. If I kept the revs higher, I was just fine. Also, a persistent issue since I picked it up is the fairly difficult start (but it is abnormally cold right now and the quad is jetted for the dunes at summertime).
Regarding the complete lack of idle, I have to rev it a couple times to get it to idle after starting it, after which it’s 50/50 whether it remains idling. I don’t have low fuel, but all of this began after I rode it pretty hard and the radiator fan kicked in. Might be overheating, just wanted to hear your opinions.

Got a 99 or 2000 bayou 220. Its started making alot of noise, then the starter would spin freely. Took it apart and determined the three bolts in the starter clutch had sheared. Installed the new starter clutch and in the process, not realizing that Japanese motors turn counterclockwise, I turned the crankshaft clockwise about a half revolution so that the key holes would be on top of the crankshaft for easier installation of starter clutch. I get everything back together and try it. The pressure is so great that its very hard to pull with the pull start, the electric starter turns it over but it struggles greatly. A key issue could be this. When I engage the choke the starter will barely turn it over and you can't pull start at all because there's so much pressure. Like the back pressure cant be released once the carburetor is choked. I'm pretty sure by turning the crankshaft clockwise I screwed something up but I cannot figure out what it is. If there's anyone that can give some advice it will be greatly appreciated.

Hello! I picked up a YFM400 and I would love to talk shop with knowledgeable co-owners, and I'd love input about the machine from anyone here who clearly knows more than I do! Cheers from NY

I just picked up a 2003 Yamaha Big Bear 400 project and figured I would join your site and learn a thing or two.
It wants to start but has been sitting for 2 years in a shed. I grabbed it from my neighbor and set about ordering parts for it off Amazon, to include: Petcock, battery and a starter relay since it does not start with the push button.
I am a car guy, but this is my first ATV and since I am on 5 acres, it will come in handy, especially with the 4x4 on command option.
Thanks for having me and I look forward to contributing to the site as well.

We just picked up this trike and there isn't any activity out of the shifter. Any idea as to why? I'm hoping there's a gear or spring that's bad and not the whole transmission. Clutch is fine, is there a spring or something that engages the shifter?
      Thanks
