Hi All,

I have 1993 YAMAHA KODIAK YFM400 I have a problem that the battery fully discharged this happened the second time.

the first time it happens I fund out that the wire of rectifier/regulator was disconnected,I connected the wire and replace the battery with a new one.

the second time was last Friday after I already went out a week before and everything was fine,I checked before went out that the charging voltage was O.K. it was about 13.5Vdc and battery voltage was O.K. 12.5Vdc then when I was up hill the ATV was very hot it shut down in the middle,I was able to pull start it and continue.

my questions are :

1.is their any connection between the motor hot and the battery shorted? maybe the rectifier/regulator is shorting or the A.C. magneto? but I could continue to ride

2.what do I need to check? what can I do in order to prevent it to happen again.

Thanks in advanced

Oren

      Hi
Is looking for a quad to pull a flail mower as my first priority, but also a bit of fun.
So its going to be pulling a flail mower on high grass / weed on a bumpy field at pretty low speed.
My budget is not high, so is mostly looking at a old Yamaha Kodiak 400cc / Suzuki Eiger 400cc or similar.
What machine would you recommend  ?  - Really want a solid machine since I am no mechanic but can perform a early service myself.

(English is not my native, hope it makes sense)

Fixing for a friend. Atv was at a different friends house to be fixed and he rebuilt the carb and had it running nice, then it shut off and no more. He replaced the key and the coil.

So he got busy, so I am helping, I checked the wiring from the stator to the cdi, and from the cdi to the coil. All is good. I checked resistance on the pickup coil, good, and on the source coil, open. I buy a new stator (China) and the 4 prong plug only has 3 wires in it while mine has all 4. I checked resistance in the source coil and it's in the 300's. I pulled one of the old pickup wires out of the old stator and wire it in the new one. Still no spark.

Why do the wires differ, I checked the VIN again and it's "J" for the year and I got a 1988 stator. Please help!

Hey guys, so I've been messing with my quad, and between all the starts, the battery is dead. Is there a certain way to charge these? Can I just throw a trickle charger on it and call it a day? can i also jump it like a normal car with a battery pack or is that to much voltage

Hi guys, I was given a 2000 Honda Recon fourtrax 250 (I think that's the full name lol). The previous owner had it sitting for a while before I got it. It sat for another few years in my ownership. I got it up and going on its first test drive today!! I was wondering where everyone buys their parts from?  Coming from the car community, we have sites like RockAuto and many more. Anything like that for quads? Also would like to be pointed in a direction, if possible, for plastics. I am missing a few and would like to have it complete. I appreciate any input!
