My "08" Arctic Cat 650 H1 runs (plows or runs a trail) great for the first 15 minutes. I can get all the power needed. It starts cutting out when it gets warm/hot. There is no heat error and plenty of antifreeze, new spark plug and air filter. Not sure where to go from here. New coil? Have the valves checked? I would take it to the shop, but the waiting list is 3 weeks and I need it to plow snow.

Any ideas???

Thanks

Got the coil installed just in time for 15 degrees and snow. The bike ran fine for quite a while.

BUT, starting cutting out again. It might have run longer because it was 15 degrees instead of 30 something. The snow was also much lighter. Either way.....I am chasing this problem with money!!!!! Could the belt cause this?

i always ran a hotter plug in my hondas thru the winter, it helped with starting and stalling after it was warmed up in the colder weather. i just had to remember to change it back once the warmer weather came. if you are running ngk, go down 1 number for the hotter plug. a spark plug isnt a whole lot of cash to put out ...

I don't mind trying that, but it was cutting out in the late summer too. Its only after it warms up or gets hot. I would take it to a dealer if I could get it back sooner than 3 weeks. I have had this bike since it was new in "08". It just started this within the last 6 months.

i had heard sometimes guys that have problems with codes and such, have unhooked the cdi pin connector for 12-24 hours to kind of reset everything. i wonder if that might work? at first it sounded like the coil, but if its still doing it, it sounds like it might be the cdi box itself ... swampcat07 is the go to guy here but i havent seen him on in quite awhile now. ill ask ck1999_400ex when he is on here ... maybe he has some insight

CHEAP LED SPARK TESTER ON THE PLUG WIRE AND WATCH FOR A MISFIRE. I am taking a guess at this, That ATV IS carbed correct? It has an eletric choke? If so this choke is automatic? Its heats up over a period of time and closes the enrichner circuit. You said it starts cutting out, could it be flooding from the choke not working right? Black smoke? simple ohm test should tell you good or bad on the choke. Describe the cutting out loss of power? spiting sputuring, back firing etc? Just wont take throttle?

I had a gy6 engine in a Hammerhead buggy had bad electric choke. after 20 mins it ran like crap. study up on it in the manual. 3 months b4 parted out a 2005 ACAT 400 and remebered it had similar choke on the caRB! TRIED TO USE THE acat ck ON THE BUGGY ETC...

New float and carb rebuild did the trick so far. Plowed some deep snow this morning with no problem.

I had plenty of power after it got warm. I have never had a carb do that to me only when it got hot!

      1989 Moto 4 YFM350ERW intermittent spark.
Quad has set for about 7 years and was running when parked.  When I replaced the battery and attempted to start it had no spark.

What I have done.  Followed troubleshooting in the manual.
      1.       Coil failed the resistance check so I replaced it.  Still no spark.
      2.       I performed resistance checks on the stator and they all pass.
      3.       Found a bad rear brake stop switch and unplugged it and connected the wires in order to disable.  Now I have intermittent spark.  I believe that the issue is with either the stator or CDI and not sure which.
1989 seems to be a transition year for electrical.  I can get new aftermarket CDI units for 87-88 and 90-94.  I cannot get ones for a 89.  I can get new stators for 87-89 and 90-95.  Looking at the schematics the wiring on my moto is closer to the 90 ones on the ATV side of the CDI and closer to the 87-88 on the stator side of the CDI.  Looking at part supply sources the stator housing is the same part # for all the years and looking at some of the stators on Amazon that have the dimensions on them both of the stators are the same size.
What I am thinking of doing is to replace the stator and CDI with a 90-95 one as these parts are all readily available.   Does anyone know if this has been tried before and if there are any issues with doing this.
As a side note I also have a 1993 Moto 4 YFM350ER that has been sitting longer but it is located about 400 miles from me at this time.  By doing this change in addition to being able to get parts I will also have 2 ATV’s that are the same electrically.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

I am new to this site. I have a 1987 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport I think. Is there a difference between quadsport and quadrunner?

I'm trying to help a buddy out with his bike (he's not really on the internet or familiar with these forums) and I'll admit that I am not super familiar with the transmission and clutches in these bikes. I owned a Brute a few years ago, but never had an issue like this that I had to troubleshoot.
So basically my buddy bought a group lot of 650's to build one good bike out of. He got it all put together and has it running but when he pushes on the throttle the clutch doesn't engage till the RPM's are quite high and even when its moving it doesn't really speed up, almost seems like its in "limp mode". He's tried 2 different transmissions so I don't think that's the problem.
Is there any adjustment on the clutch engagement? Anything else I can tell him to look at? Let me know if you need anymore information if you think you can help.

Have you ever been on the trail and your tire valve goes bad. No way to break down the wheel and replace it. A lot of you probably know about this already i had heard of it but never used one. Just punch out the old one insert and tighten down the nut

So far it has worked very well.
