Hi! I'm new here, and I'm striving hard to learn about doing my own quad repairs. That's how I stumbled on this forum, and I wanted to introduce myself.

I wrote a little article about my travails with wrenching on my website, Raventurous - My Life Outside My Comfort Zone (specifically, Mechanics Make Quad Repair Look Easy). I'd really love for you to check it out ant tell me what you think. I've been riding quads for about five years and have been working on my own repairs for nearly that long.

Thanks for checking out this post! I’ll hope to get to know people soon.

Welcome Raven. There is a "She Rides" section here too. She Rides! » QUADCRAZY ATV Forums

Saw your blog. Live it up!

I was a heavy jet airplane mechanic for several years before going into management. One thing is true for all machines, RTFM (Read The Manual). If you can read, you can fix anything.

Hey, thanks for the beta on the She Rides section; looking forward to checking it out.I bet that will be a fun place especially for discussing the lack of good women's gear and finding good resources from other people with the same fit problems. :cute:

My wife has some of the same issues. To solve her throttle thumb getting tired and cold on long rides, she installed a motorcycle style grip throttle on her wheeler. Though that might not be as much of problem for you in CA.

Speaking of CA, I hope you are not a 49er fan.

Worse; I'm a Charger's fan~. Thanks for the tip! Usually I have the too-hot problem in my desert, as it's up to 117º in the summer. Right now it's just under 80º... what part of the country (world?) are you in?

We call it snowmachining here. I`ve not got into it much mostly because I wear glasses and they fog up immediately. Also, spend my time and treasure on keeping 5 wheelers functional. It is a great place to ride and those that do, can`t wait for the freeze. The lakes and swaps become play grounds, the rivers: super highways.

Oh, man! That looks like an utterly noisy, rowdy blast.^_^ thanks for sharing that with me! I'm looking forward to checking out the gallery.

      Good day everyone!
I am pretty new to ATV/UTV/Small engine repairs and would like input on your absolute must-have specialty tools for maintenance and repairs. Aside from the obvious wrenches and sockets, what are some more specialty type tools you use for troubleshooting? I don't plan to open a repair shop or anything, I just do this as a hobby. Looking forward to your responses!

Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum.
I have been riding quads for the last 20 years, however my quads are extremely old and outdated, all three are about 20 years old LOL.
I have been looking at upgrading, but need your input.
I've narrowed it down to the Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 S or the Honda FourTrax Foreman 4x4 EPS
      What do you guys think?

Hi my name is Dex, and i have an addic..oh wrong group.
I only started actually riding atvs in late 2019 with a friend from high school. After getting out and enjoying a night of riding and camping, i just found that i REALLY enjoy being out in the woods on a 4wheeler day or night. my main rig is a 2020 Can Am Outlander 570 and recently picked up a 2004 Honda Recon 250, and a Kawasaki Prairie 360. Both the honda and the Kawasaki are projects that started in pretty rough condition and are slowly becoming running, riding machines. As i research and rebuild, i am learning new skills along the way and enjoying every minute of it. Thanks for having me in the community, i hope to learn a bit more every day from each of you out there, while also sharing some experiences with you all as well!

I got asked to work on a pair of Yamaha 350's.  One has grizzly stickers, one has bruin stickers.  Both are 2wd, straight rear axle.  Not sure what year.  I'd guess '04-'08.
Both have a no start condition.  Both have been sitting 2+ years.  One came with box of parts the owners 15 year old kid removed to try and get it running.
Started working on one last night.  Pulled the rack, front plastic, fuel tank, recoil starter, carburetor.
Removed petcock from tank, cleaned screens, made sure if flows air, reinstalled.
Drained fuel tank, put in fresh fuel, swirled it around, letting is soak and will drain and check it later.
Cleaned up the motor a bit since its covered in mud.  Checked the valves.  The intake had less zero, actually, probably less than zero clearance.  The valve seems like it was hanging open just a touch even at TDC.
The exhaust had maybe .004 clearance.  I assume that went to zero once running.
Adjust intake to .008.  Adjusted exhaust to .018
Scrubbed the carb in a sink with a toothbrush, dawn, and water.  It looked like a mudball.
After that, sprayed it down with carb clean and took it to the bench.  A/F screw was 1.75 turns out.  I'm thinking this is a factory setting.  It seems like this machine was never touched by a mechanic.  All the jets actually seemed clear.  The bowl had minimal residue in it.
That about as far as I made it for the night.  Going to get a fresh plug, clean the air filter, add some fresh gas, and see if it will run.  If so, I'll probably clean up the oil cooler before putting it back together.  Maybe change the engine oil  and rear diff fluid too.
