  1. As of recently, theyre really turning it into a freakin wasteland. but i only just started going out there back in 2019. All the recent drama has really started making it unappealing, however ive spent many nights out there camping and riding.
  2. yeah, a buddy of mine owns some dry land out there, and ive got a small piece of wet property. its just 5 hours from my house now.....
  3. i looked at this one a few weeks ago. i need to talk to someone about requirements on the machines and whatnot. ive yet to ride any state forest since i got my Can am back in 2020. we always just rode Suburban Estates or Hogwaller.
  4. i will have to look around a bit and see what i can find. Ive been talking to a few people i met through work and have been trying to get my Recon finished up so i can make a ride somewhere. i am almost done putting it all back together. just waiting on one seal for the rear brake so i can put the new axle in. Should have the seal tomorrow and hopefully reassembled so i can test it out.
  5. I can attest to that central FL traffic. I moved to the panhandle to get away from that crap. Lol
  6. my Can Am has been a Phenomenal machine. i love every second riding it. i havent ridden the other two yet, but am looking forward to it!
  7. When you and a group of friends decide you want to take a long group trip of camping/riding/overlanding, how far are you willing to drive for your trip? Right now, i find it really difficult to want to drive more than 2-3 hours one way.
  8. i know this post is a few months old at this point, but have you tried heat? i found a great way to remove some really stuck bolts is to inject heat by means of an induction heater or even just welding a nut to it and letting it cool.
  9. Hi my name is Dex, and i have an addic..oh wrong group. I only started actually riding atvs in late 2019 with a friend from high school. After getting out and enjoying a night of riding and camping, i just found that i REALLY enjoy being out in the woods on a 4wheeler day or night. my main rig is a 2020 Can Am Outlander 570 and recently picked up a 2004 Honda Recon 250, and a Kawasaki Prairie 360. Both the honda and the Kawasaki are projects that started in pretty rough condition and are slowly becoming running, riding machines. As i research and rebuild, i am learning new skills along the way and enjoying every minute of it. Thanks for having me in the community, i hope to learn a bit more every day from each of you out there, while also sharing some experiences with you all as well!
  10. some sort of headlight upgrades for sure. light bars or LED headlight upgrades. i love a clear trail view when riding at night.
  11. a decision like this really depends on your riding style. the polaris atvs are fast and powerful, but are typically less "reliable" in terms of repairs and maintenance. The hondas are incredibly reliable since they dont use a belt drive and are gear driven units.
  12. i love to ride some combinations of technical trails and just cruising in the woods. its such a good time to just get out in the woods and just ride and enjoy the outdoors.
  13. I recently got my hands on a free 2004 Recon that the owner had zero information on the machine or the history. Long story short, a little troubleshooting and research revealed i needed to replace the timing chain for it to stay running. when i opened the case, it the chain was so horribly stretched, that the tensioner pivot arm had play between it and the chain! I also found the oil pump chain totally disconnected from the sprocket due to being completely worn out. I tore the whole engine down and rebuilt it from the bottom up finding little things here and there that needed to be replaced. Upon inspecting the top end, i didn't find any bad/excessive play in the crank, rod bearings or wrist pin. Now the machine runs great, but even after 2x adjusting the valves, the chatter is way more than you'd expect from a honda normally. My neighbor is an auto mechanic by trade, and i asked him to take a listen. the look on his face when i started it and it was chattering like that was priceless! He mentioned that maybe the valves themselves might be wore out or stretched. my question here: what all can cause the excessive rattle up in the valve cover aside from valves being out of spec? Everything else seemed to be in decent condition as far as rockers and guides go. I am fairly new to small engine/ATV repairs, but am learning as a hobby and have a fair amount of knowledge with how to do some wrenching. Thanks!
  14. I just did some repairs to the plastics on my Honda Recon with a plastic welding kit from amazon and some stainless steel mesh. Like other mentioned above, looks terrible when you're done, but if you do the underside, the cracks leave a story from the battles your machine has endured over the years.
  15. I was like 7 years old and a friends' dad brought home a Honda 4 wheeler that he would let us ride on the back with him or one of the boys. They had this wooded area behind his house, and we would just ride around for hours on end. One day, they told me they would let me learn how to drive it. I took the hardest turn on the track and lost control, put it right into a tree and didn't touch another one for probably 9 years. Lol, now I have a 2020 Can Am outlander 570, 2004 Honda recon 250, and just took possession of a 2005 Kawasaki Prairie 360. I LOVE riding, but haven't been able to in a while.
