  1. just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their suggestions and support. My first atv and this forum gave me the encouragement to go ahead and fix it up. Ordered my last part needed from ebay....waiting.....amazon prime spoiled me by getting orders here in 2 or 3 days.
  2. all together, just have to get two more parts for the airbox.... (ignore my unfinished stone wall...long story there)
  3. no need to post any pics. I watched a guy on youtube as he had his atv apart and i saw how everything went. I had one white connector left over and i looked at the parts drawings and it said there's a "motor control module". So, i looked that up and new it's $150. I said no way. Then i found out it'ss missing ONE word...FAN. LOL it's the Fan Motor Controller. So, not needed right now, probably never because i don't plan on doing any heavy riding. Other than the tube from the carb to the air box (which i'll order this week) it's just about ready. (fingers crossed) Being an after market carb, i'm sure i'll have to play around with that. Brainstorming is the best teacher! thanks!!!!
  4. hey, are your electrical components installed where they go? Mine were just tucked where ever someone thought they would fit. If yours are in place can you post a pic? I also have one ground wire with no home and a white connector that plugs into no where. I'll post a pic of them tomorrow. I'm not sure where the rectifier goes or the cdi unit. When i got it they were just on top of the battery. The parts list shows them somewhere in the back, but i'm not sure where. thanks by the way, our vin numbers are almost the same, except my last digits are 00815
  5. when i bought mine, the guy told me it was a 2005. A few says later, after my original post, i chased the seerial numbers and it's a 2000. So, if i can send you any pics of wiring or something, let me know. When i was looking for parts, none of them looked like what i had on mine, that's when i checked the vin and found out why. At this point, i don't care if its a 2000, it's almost together. After i painted the fenders today, i opened the garage door and it sprung off the tracks and one of the cables came off. ARGH! Then, to add to more excitement, my door lift burned out. So, i spent about 5 hours on youtube trying to figure out how to fix the door, plus I had to order a new opener. Wife was not happy about a $300 bill. Monday i have to call a garage door place and have them come down and fix it...probably another $300 bill. The door is a 17 foot insulated door and it's damn heavy! When it rains, it pours i guess. by the way, i saw a 2000 big bear 400 on FB market place for $600. Its in south carolina tho. There's some 1999 on there too.
  6. can't ride on any road in Kentucky https://bullitt.kysheriff.org/wp/all-terrain-vehicles-and-what-you-need-to-know/#:~:text=KENTUCKY ATV LAWS,any public highway or roadway.
  7. there is a guy on FB who had a Big Bear 350 he was parting out. Maybe he has the complete wiring harness if that would help you. Actually, he's got a web site that he parts out complete ATV's and motorcycles. I was amazed at what he has, but he doesn't sell them complete..only parts. Some looked new as well. see here: https://www.facebook.com/Powersport-Parts-LLC-108021950670725
  8. just finished wet sanding the fenders. Someone spraay painted them black, so i sprayed them with Easy Off oven cleaner, let it soak for about 15 minutes, then hosed off the black paint. Spots that didn't come off, i used 0000 steel wool, washed them with soap, then wet sanded them with 500 grit wet/dry sand paper. If i have time, i'll paint them this week. Fuel tank is black plastic, but, i'll paint that too so it all matches. Then i can put it all together
  9. my mess....electrical components wrapped in plastic to protect from water when i washed it
  10. wish it came with the OEM carb, unfortunately, it didn't. I have it stripped down (all electrical unplugged) so i could power wash it. Once i get the fenders painted, i can start putting all that back together and pay attention to the carb. it ran good when i first looked at it, so, i don't see why it won't now. i hope. Just trying to make it look original, or close to it.
  11. looks like the one that's on my atv. now i have to wonder how good it is. i can't start the atv because i have it all apart.
  12. someone, later in the future, will appreciate that i put never seize on every nut, bolt, part and screw i touched on this thing. plus i'm painting the fenders and tank back to hunter green. i might even get new decals for it. the plastic rivets that hold the fender mud flaps...guy on ebay was selling them for over $6 EACH! Bought a 125 on amazon for $11.
  13. ha. my OCD makes me go beyond what i should be doing. Sometimes, i just can't say "that's good enough" and move on. There's an extra "snorkle" tube from the air box that i saw, but, the price of it is outrageous, so, i'll figure something out. I don't plan on driving it in water, so, i can do without it. But that larger hose from the carb...it looks like it needs clean air, so, i'll have to figure out where to run it to. Also, the airbox is missing the lid for it, another item i have to buy. I'll just go to the auto parts store and get a large vacuum hose. it's slowly going back together. the front end is done. I didn't realize the axle nuts have to be at least 150 ft pounds, but, i got it. New springs for the throttle cable..what a pain that was (the spring in the handle bar throttle cable box) and a new "choke cable". The carb is missing that triangle shaape cover. the guy i bought this from was supposed to send it to me...2 weeks ago. i'm going to have to break his balls about it...again. lol or, as someone suggested, i can just make a cover out of plexiglass and call it a day. other that the costs of little parts here and there, this thing is kinda fun to work on. FYI...some guy in kentucky on FB marketplace is parting out a Big Bear. I asked about the air box but haven't heard back from him. Its a 350 big bear
  14. not sure where you live, but someone on FB Marketplace is parting out a Big Bear in Richmond Kentucky

  16. not my carb, i just found that picture to see what hoses were on there
  17. so, i looked around and saw this picture of a carb with hoses. I'll just get a single hose that hass a large enough opening to fit over that "port" on the carb
  18. perfect pictures!! thanks! I knew a hose had to fit on that carb. I'll check the manual or parts look-ups to see if i can ID it for a part number.
  19. the ironic part is my son is a welder, and teaches welding...lol..but he's 700 miles from me. He's also going for the coveted CWI certificate. We moved about 3 years ago and he was my go to welder back there. I should buy one and the next time he comes down here he can give me a crash course. lol i guess at 72 years old, i'm still young enough to learn !
  20. ok, searching further, the timing cover vent hose....does that attach anywhere or does it just route along the frame and not hooked op to anything? I wrongly thought it might go to that carb opening
  21. it's definately an after market carb. While looking at some, i noticed they have that same "tube" protruding out. the only tube i see on the engine was a cut one. I was guessing it went there. I saw one diagram that showed the engine's PVC tube attached there
  22. Next question....there's an opening on the carb at the top. (I placed a RED cap in it) Is there a hose that connects there? I've searched for hose diagrams , but can't find anything that plugs in there. I thought maybe it's for the crankcase vent?
  23. i doubt if i'll ever be using it. seems like the only ones who would use it would be deer poachers (joke) Almost done with the front suspensions. all new ball joints, bearing, etc. just waiting for the lower A arm to get here. I never realized how hard it was for ball joints to come out or go in. But, i found out if i torched them, they melt like lead and almost drop out. Putting the new ones in was a challenge, When all that is done, i'll be painting the fenders. Someone thought painting them balck was a cool thing to do.
