its the Fan Motor Controller. They list it as a "motor controller", they just left out the word "fan"

trying to tempt me?? i bookmarked that link for future refernce. thanks! (don't tell my old lady)

checked that out, seems to be sliding nice, but i found the throttle cable was hooked to the side frame, making an small bend shape to it. I removed it and kept it straight and it seems to be great now. It's those little unseen things that can give you a pain. Thanks for helping!!

are those two wires for the carb heater? I never connected mine since it's an aftermarket and i don't think it has a heater. I've read that you don't really need it unless you live where the temps are way below freezing. also, that lever in your other picture...does that engage/disengage the front drive? I read these are full time 4x4 and that would be a nice option, or did someone install that? Need more pics! lol

i watched both of his videos...very informative..at least for me. But, it was interesting how he diagnosed everything. I thought it might help you.

its pouring out, so i have time to look around...found this. I don't know if you saw this or not

You said if you jumped the solenoid, it activates the starter...right? When i turned my key to ON, I checked the wires on the solenoid...they all said 12 volts (the red and two blue wires) And yours? and when my key is ON, my Oil Temp light doesn't come on either. Just the neutral light.
-
ok, some dunb questions first...with key on, you have power to the swwitch, correct? then power out to the starter solenoid...right? have you tried jumping the solenoid to see if there's any reaction? is it gounded properly? I'm no expert, just going by my basic understanding of electronics.

so, what exactly are you chasing there? maybe i can look at my wiring and compare or let you know what goes where?
-
i had to add a new "choke" cable, maybe i need to adjust it better. i'll try that today.

Finally got it together and running, but shifting seems a bit hard, especially if you have sneaks on. Are they normally that hard to shift? Also, when i releaase the throttle to shift into another gear, it doesn't seem to lose RPM's fast....it seems to take it's time. I put a new throttle spring in about a week ago and the lever does back off, it's just doesn't seem to die down as fast as it should. I've got the idle down as low as i could get it before it would quit. Other than that it runs good. There's an aftermarket carb on it, so maybe the issue lies there?

damn, sure looks clean. I looked at my solenoid and it's wired the same colors. Unfortunately, i'm not going to open the starter swwitch because i know if i do, it'll lead to another issue. To me, if the lights go out when you push the start button, it seems like a short somewhere. I'm guessing of course, but you might be right about a bad ground. are they different? I downloaded one myself.

just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their suggestions and support. My first atv and this forum gave me the encouragement to go ahead and fix it up. Ordered my last part needed from ebay....waiting.....amazon prime spoiled me by getting orders here in 2 or 3 days.

all together, just have to get two more parts for the airbox.... (ignore my unfinished stone wall...long story there)

no need to post any pics. I watched a guy on youtube as he had his atv apart and i saw how everything went. I had one white connector left over and i looked at the parts drawings and it said there's a "motor control module". So, i looked that up and new it's $150. I said no way. Then i found out it'ss missing ONE word...FAN. LOL it's the Fan Motor Controller. So, not needed right now, probably never because i don't plan on doing any heavy riding. Other than the tube from the carb to the air box (which i'll order this week) it's just about ready. (fingers crossed) Being an after market carb, i'm sure i'll have to play around with that. Brainstorming is the best teacher! thanks!!!!

hey, are your electrical components installed where they go? Mine were just tucked where ever someone thought they would fit. If yours are in place can you post a pic? I also have one ground wire with no home and a white connector that plugs into no where. I'll post a pic of them tomorrow. I'm not sure where the rectifier goes or the cdi unit. When i got it they were just on top of the battery. The parts list shows them somewhere in the back, but i'm not sure where. thanks by the way, our vin numbers are almost the same, except my last digits are 00815

when i bought mine, the guy told me it was a 2005. A few says later, after my original post, i chased the seerial numbers and it's a 2000. So, if i can send you any pics of wiring or something, let me know. When i was looking for parts, none of them looked like what i had on mine, that's when i checked the vin and found out why. At this point, i don't care if its a 2000, it's almost together. After i painted the fenders today, i opened the garage door and it sprung off the tracks and one of the cables came off. ARGH! Then, to add to more excitement, my door lift burned out. So, i spent about 5 hours on youtube trying to figure out how to fix the door, plus I had to order a new opener. Wife was not happy about a $300 bill. Monday i have to call a garage door place and have them come down and fix it...probably another $300 bill. The door is a 17 foot insulated door and it's damn heavy! When it rains, it pours i guess. by the way, i saw a 2000 big bear 400 on FB market place for $600. Its in south carolina tho. There's some 1999 on there too.

Are you allowed to cross a road on your quad?
mga replied to Yammy's topic in General ATV Discussion
can't ride on any road in Kentucky https://bullitt.kysheriff.org/wp/all-terrain-vehicles-and-what-you-need-to-know/#:~:text=KENTUCKY ATV LAWS,any public highway or roadway. -
there is a guy on FB who had a Big Bear 350 he was parting out. Maybe he has the complete wiring harness if that would help you. Actually, he's got a web site that he parts out complete ATV's and motorcycles. I was amazed at what he has, but he doesn't sell them complete..only parts. Some looked new as well. see here: https://www.facebook.com/Powersport-Parts-LLC-108021950670725

just finished wet sanding the fenders. Someone spraay painted them black, so i sprayed them with Easy Off oven cleaner, let it soak for about 15 minutes, then hosed off the black paint. Spots that didn't come off, i used 0000 steel wool, washed them with soap, then wet sanded them with 500 grit wet/dry sand paper. If i have time, i'll paint them this week. Fuel tank is black plastic, but, i'll paint that too so it all matches. Then i can put it all together

wish it came with the OEM carb, unfortunately, it didn't. I have it stripped down (all electrical unplugged) so i could power wash it. Once i get the fenders painted, i can start putting all that back together and pay attention to the carb. it ran good when i first looked at it, so, i don't see why it won't now. i hope. Just trying to make it look original, or close to it.

looks like the one that's on my atv. now i have to wonder how good it is. i can't start the atv because i have it all apart.
