  1. all done! although he charged me $15 each wheel, which i gladly paid. Trying to stretch stiff rubber that feels like an inch thick is impossible. But, i handles much better with new tires. The shop i went to works on those rock climbing machines, but, it's like 1/2 a mile away. Guy told me if i ever need parts to come see him first and he'll see what he can do for me..
  2. ha.....stupid me....got my new tires and i thought i could change them by hand....lol....that didn't happen. I'll bring them to a dealer. They aren't like lawn mower tires!
  3. as always, excellent advice... thanks!!!! i should add you're right about it being unstable. When on a hill, i had a couple of times when it wanted to tip over! I had to dismount on the right side. I'll definitely go with the 25's.
  4. My 2000 big bear 400 4x4 has 26x10x12 tires in front and 26x12x12 in the rears. Trying to find replacement tires those sizes are hard to find, or, when i do, they cost a lot more than i want to spend. But, there's a lot of 25" tires out there the same size, just 25" and not 26". If i got the 25" it should not make a difference....right?
  5. glad you fixed it. my guess was the helmet he was wearing didn't allow him to see what he was shifting. 😀
  6. found it. lol video.mp4

    Frame swaps?

i guess you're right. I'll try that this winter when i have the time. I just thought swapping frames would be an easy way out, but, after getting the feed back, it would be difficult to get everything back to normal. I think i'll have to just bend the front end to the right. the left wheel is about an inch back from the right wheel. At this point i have nothing to lose trying to bend it back thanks again!!

    Frame swaps?

only bought a new A arm...didn't help. I see a few big bears for parts...i was just wondering about the frames. i guess i could try to straighten it. thanks for all the feed back.
  9. I have a Yamaha Big Bear 400 4x4 2000. I've posted on here about the frame being bent. Does anyone know what year frames are interchangeable? Also, would the frame from a 350 be the same as a 400? Would it matter if it was a 4x4 or 2x4? thanks for any help with this
  10. seems the older big bears have the same problem: getting it back into neutral unless you rock it. I have to do that to mine once in a while, but not too often, it's still a PITA
  11. I just saw a video on TikTok where some guy took the rear end off an ATV and bolted on a roto tiller in place of rear wheels. I wish i saved that video to post here....good thing it was 4 wheel drive...lol but, it seemed to work. I'm not sure how he made it bolt on to the drive....
  12. I see quite a few ads for that Tribotex additive. It's kind of expensive, has anyone used it it their ATV or any other vehicle?
  13. true about rocking the bike. I've had a few times that i could not get it out of gear. bot, being a 24 year old bike, i don't expect it to run like new. These days i just use it to spray the yard, or to save me a long walk down and up the hill out back.
  14. also, after replacing the boots and lower ball joint, i backed the clutch off a little....that seemed to help. My theory (probably wrong) was that my clutch was still engaging making it hard to get out of that damn reverse...so, i loosened the nut and turned it CC. I might do a little more after i ride it.
  15. maybe your cable isn't run correctly and putting stress on it? i believe it should be a relaxed cable without any sharp bends or curves (?)
  16. by the way, i must have set the valves correctly....i just touch the start button and it fires up instantly.
  17. i have a couple of different torque wrenches....one digital...but, i was too lazy to get it out....lol....my bad. i should get into the practice of using them again. But, all done!!
  18. well.....not exactly smoothly....lol....i found out i stripped the threads on the lower ball joint on the left side....damn thing would not tighten until i realized why. so, ordered a new one and it'll be on this saturday. these 4 wheelers sure keep you busy.
  19. piece of cake....well, kinda....maybe a messy cake with that black grease....but, they're in! thanks for the help!!
  20. good information guys. then i'm going to say mine is a YFM400FM...since it's 4x4 and manual shift.
  21. VIN: 5Y4AH06WXYA008015 So, checking VIN look up sites, one says mine is a YFM400 and another says it's a YFM400FWN
  22. is there a sticker or something that tells me which one i have? I believe its a YFM400F
  23. what's the difference between YFM400FMC or,YFM400FM, or YFM400FHRC?
  24. thanx!!!!!
  25. I just want to clarify that i was doing the timing correct. I wanted to adjust the valves, so, I removed the spark plug, I removed that little black plastic cap on the side, then, i turned the engine counterclockwise until the "T" lined up with the small groove on the threads where that black cap screws in. Then i checked the valve clearances. So, what is the "F" mark for? I hope the "T" was the right mark to use. lol
