  2. It is a 1989. I decided to buy parts online and fix this thing right. Then if it does not run right it will be time for a new carb. Thanks guys for all of the help.
  3. no that is not the goal. Let me explain. Engine does not run well. I do not care how loud it is just able to run right. He says that the back pressure from the stock muffler, When worn out , will cause poor running. Is that true? Would jetting fix this?
  4. I have a suzuki lt250 ouadrunner. The muffler is shot and the mecanic says that I can just jet the carb.b Can this be done and will it work or do i have to buy a new muffler. thanks
  5. Yes I used the old cylinder, but it was bored .050 over and a new piston was fitted to it. I put it all together and it still smokes like it did before the overhaul. dennisg
  6. It is air cooled. The rebuild was two months ago, that is how long I have been trying to get it running right. The rebuild was just the top end, with new piston and rings and head with the valves reground. Keep the questions coming maybe we can figure something out. Thanks Dennisg
  7. It is a 4 stroke. It is like it is possessed or something. The carb screws should work and the overhaul should have stopped it from smoking. It is just the same as before all of the work. People say that it needs and overhaul and the carb needs to be rebuilt, but both of those have been done. All of the hoses and boots are in good condition. It runs too fast and the engine spews out white smoke. Thanks Dennisg
  8. I thought that I may have overfilled the oil, so I let some out and then ran the engine for a few minutes. Oil and white smoke still shooting out and still idling too fast. Any Ideas? Thanks Dennisg
  9. I have checked the head and the pipe and it is tight with no leaks. The carb boots , it seems that it does not make any difference weather the boot is connected or not, just runs fast at idle with no adjustment. I assume that you are talking about the boot that goes to the airbox. Thanks dennisg
  10. I had the piston replaced and the cylinder fitted to a new one and the head finished by a service shop and I bought a carb rebuild kit from e-bay and cleaned it and put it all back together. Vacum? Which hoses would that be? Thanks Dennisg
  11. I recently rebuilt the top end of the motor and rebuild of the carb. It was smoking real bad and hard to start. Now it starts right up and shoots out white smoke and oil out of the tailpipe. It also idles fast with no adjustment on the idle screw . What can be my problem? Thanks dennisg
  12. I have completed the carb rebuild and the engine runs and smokes just like before with no change except that it runs and starts better. It idles fast and cannot be changed by messing with the 2 screws on the carb. Why does it still smoke and why will it not adjust the idle? Thanks dennisg
  13. 1989 Suzuki Quadrunner. I got the top end overhauled and putting it back together now.It ran good just smoked. Now it does almost the same thing. Excessive smoking and idling to fast with no adjustment on the screws. I am certain it is a carburetor problem but how to fix it is another problem. Thanks dennisg
  14. I got the float in right this time. But it may need adjustment? It still runs fast with no adjustment in the idle adjustment or in rich or lean. Any suggestions on what to do now? thanks dennisg
  15. Thanks for the reply. I will work on it. dennisg
  16. What would cause gas to be gushing out of the drain pipe of the carb?
  17. I checked the carburetor completely and I believe it was ok. I removed the carb and now it won't start. I am convinced it is a carburetor problem, but the manual is not clear as to what to do next can anyone help. Thanks dennisg
  18. I checked the connection of the throttle control valve and the carb and all seems well. It only goes in two ways and the first way the motor will not start. The first way the throttle will not work all of the way. So I believe that I have it in correctly. I also looked at the choke and choke cable connection and i believe that it is also correct. started it up and same thing. What is next as the repair manual does not cover such an incident? Thanks dennisg
  19. The engine just got through an overhaul of the top end. Started right up but just running fast. I have tried to adjust the carb but nothing works to slow it down or speed it up. There is only 2 screws on the carb, what else is there? Thanks Dennisg
  20. I have a manual and i would go over the procedure with you right out of the book. I will need to do it too once i get my head back and cylinder honed. PM if you want. dennisg
  21. Not being able to get the engine to quit smoking, I have taken the head off and inspected it visually and nothing appeared to be bad. I took the head to the local shop and he is cleaning it up and re seating the valves and reconditioning the head. I took the cylinder off of the piston and have inspected that and the cylinder is smooth and scratch free, and the piston looks ok too. Could someone have put in a new piston and rings and lined up the ring gaps to cause this condition? I cannot see any reason for the amount of oil leaking past the rings other than the ring gaps were lined up and they are not supposed to be. What else can i check to get this motor running? Thanks dennisg
  22. Update I got it running right. I started it and let it run for a few minutes and set the choke to half as the manual said and ran it some more and then moved the choke lever to off,and it ran great with a lot of power. It is still a mosquito fogger however. I thought that oil contamination was the original problem, so i changed the oil and filter. It blows out a thick white smoke layer that you have to be moving forward or you can not breath and you will die,it is awful. I am sure that the previous owner did not clean the exhaust out and i was wondering how long to would take to burn off the residue. Gearhead it may be a sooty water that is sitting in the exhaust and burning when it is warm. Is there a fix for that? I am reading up on the valve adjustment, looks like a lot of work and special tools. Dirtdemon thanks for the link, but I think i have that problem solved. I am thinking of taking off the exhaust and see if it still smokes so bad, what do you think of that idea? Thanks dennisg
  23. Update I have a running Quad. It runs good and starts right up. I have to keep the choke on all the time or it will quit. I have never seen an engine run so well with the choke on,whats up with that? It also smokes real bad and shoots black oil out the tail pipe, never seen that before either. What causes that and are the two problems related? I have a manual and I have looked up the valve adjustment as I believe that this may be the next move as DirtDemon suggested. I got to drive it around the yard for about 10 minutes and it sure is fun and now I know why everyone is hooked on them as I will be too. Thanks dennisg
  24. Wow Gearhead01 that was the information that I was looking for. I should be able to get this thing running now and we will see what else it needs thanks a bunch Dennisg
  25. I have cleaned the carb and checked the fuel flow before the fuel pump(good) and after the fuel pump just as you described and nothing. I tried to take the fuel pump apart and the diaphragms look good, but it is hard to tell. As far as the vacuum line I have not checked that yet, but I will trace it down to where it is connected to the engine. I checked the compression and it is 125psi. I know that this is on the low side but it should at least start with that as the repair spec says lower than 104psi. As for the flywheel timing key? I assume that you mean if the timing key is broken or missing. No I have not checked that but I will. I will also try the starting fluid trick, just to see if it will fire. Thanks a bunch for your help all of you, as I appreciate it. I am determined to get this machine running and running eight. Thanks dennisg
