got that 220 I'm 'servicing'..........  well it turned into a guts and oil job....  I cleaned the carb and it wont idle cold, but idles too fast when warm.  also misfires and burns rich cold (white smoke out of the exhaust)  I'm going to order a new carb since the old one is leaking and beat up (some one was tinkering)  I'm wondering about the valve clearance and timing...?  Maybe a factor?   What should the clearance be on the valves?  How should I check the timing on this bike?  (this is a mid 90s bayou 220 2x4)

Is the carb that beat up that it’s byond repair? A valve adjustment would prob help for other reasons but not this problem.   The timing is pretty straight forward as your 300 is. Cam sprocket and T mark on the flywheel.   Double check that the choke is not stuck.   And also check for good spark and a fresh plug.

Also my 220 ran best on a 1-1/2 turns out on the air fuel mixture screw.

heh forgot to conclude this thread too.  The carb was beat up so I couldn't do much with it- the bowl was warped or something and had all kinds of crap that the carb cleaner wouldnt touch inside..  ordered a new one for $30- adjusted (remember aftermarket carbs usually like leaner settings than eom.  runs great now.

The new rebuild kit comes  with a float.  Some good air pressure will clean anything out along with a set of brushes you can get on amazon.  I hear ya on the new cheap carb but they are just too much trouble with the adjusting.

thanks.  I had already replaced it and got the bike back to the guy- he says it runs perfectly now.

just wondering tho:  How much would you charge for a tune up and what do you include with your tune up?  I charged this guy $120 and changed the oil, sp, carb, checked timing and valve clearance, cleaned up the guts of his bike good, and realigned his front end.  Is that fair or too much or too little?  What would you charge and what would you include in a tune up?

Hello all, I'm new to ATVs. I have a friend moving away and he made me a great deal on his 2007 King Quad. I couldn't resist.  So here I am trying to figure things out.
I figure I'll start with an oil change and work on registration.
I'm in Colorado so I'll be looking for some adventure soon.
I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions and hopefully be able to help someone with answers too.

Okay so I bought this 1997 sazuki king quad from a guy and he had it for a few years.
He had it registered and on the trails last year but he said it bogged and backfired when he would try to drive it. so it sat for a year.
I bought it for 800 bucks and got it running that night and it ran great for a few days
But I parked it the other night and went to start it again and it was really hard to fire up and when I did it was bogging and idling high then low again.
So I took the carb out and cleaned it (ended up doing it twice because it was still doing the same thing)
Now today I have it running slightly better, but it is still like 20%
I have been looking it up and trying to figure it out but I can't find the issue, has anyone else had this problem? I'll attach a video of it running and giving some throttle

quad is a new to me freebie, pulled carb and cleaned it. got it running and idling nice but mid throttle it craps out and will go down to almost a stall, i release throttle and it just sits there idling away happy as a pig in poop. i was thinking fuel restriction then i noticed the exhaust glowing red in the sunlight. so its running lean

bottom of the tail pipe was rusted out and the little nut also ripped off when i tried to undo it.
a 540 ml soup can is the same id as the exhaust pipe od and the soup can has ridges to make it a tight fit
a little bit of a mickey mouse fix but it works
