Steering bearing

Recommended Posts

So the saga with the quad continues, for those who dont know I have a 1997 yamaha warrior that is a project quad. Me and my man are takin it apart and redoin stuff. The steering bearing retainer is locked on and we cant get the old bearing out, we have again tried everything from lubing , heat, cranking on it, to breakin a socket wrench tryin to get this thing off. Normally these nuts are supposed to be easy, any one have ne other suggestions on what to try???:aargh:

Not sure how it is on other quads, on Yamahas, the bearing drops in and then you thread a retaining nut into the shaft, the shaft is threaded. It is real low torque and comes out with a 29mm Allen wrench. Then the bearing will pull right out of the top.

The issue is the retaining nut has snapped a 1/2" Ratchet which had a 4' breaker bar on it. This sucker is in there. Heating it to red hot then muscling it may just bend the bracket and not break it free.

won't be able to snap pics till later. I just brought it to a garage that the company I work for owns and I put 600lbs worth of impact power on it. Didn't budge. Went both ways.

They didn't have the time to put the torch to it. My little propane torch doesn't heat it enough I think.

We actually bought some gaskette remover stuff today. We heard on another forum that its worth a try to get that bolt out. That stuff takes rust off like you woudnt believe. We are soaking it in pb blaster tonight and then the gaskette stuff tomorrow night and we will try to pull it again after soaking it. My honey broke a breaker bar tonight thathe just bought tryin to get the damn thing off. :aargh::aargh::aargh::aargh::aargh::aargh::aargh:

I see quite a few ads for that  Tribotex additive. It's kind of expensive, has anyone used it it their ATV or any other vehicle?

My 2014 750 king quad stalls sometimes when I touch or turn the handlebars, the problem has gotten worse,my machine has 475 miles and is only trail ridden,I have a new factory battery and i have 14.2 volts when the quad is running and 13.3 on the battery when not running, also using a multimeter there is no change in volts when turning the bars until it does stall,If I pull the 40 amp power steering fuse it will not stall.......I've been told its the ECU,Hate to buy one if thats not the problem, but its kinda leaning towards that,,,,,need some opinions.

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!

Hello, what is the best method for installing bearings into their race? I've set one in place and tapped it down until it was metal on metal. Is that sufficient? Surely it's not supposed to go into the race until flush? Also. does the coil spring on the seal go into carrier bearing housing not facing out? Thanks! 🙂 Seal goes in until flush correct?
