Warn 424 alternative

Recommended Posts

For you guys that have full time 4wd like a Honda 300, 350 Rancher, etc that is all time 4wd Warn used to make a 424 that was a manual disconnect that replaced the front drive shaft. Warn sold the patent to Wide Open and they made a cheaper made unit. They were about 300 but are out of production. The few left are bringing 800 now. So here's my question; Maybe I'm reaching here, but since there is basically no such thing as a 424 anymore, have any of you fine folks thought through whether you can make a transfer case that will disconnect? If you could move either gear forward a half inch it would be disconnected. Thoughts?

The rancher ones are still available but there's like 3 in the US left right now for the 300 and they are bringing $800 or so. Keep in mind a year ago these were $179. Thus why the search for an alternative

Interesting

I'm back. I stripped my 300 for parts. Good Warn disconnect, wheels, winch.

I bought a 2002 Rancher 350 ES with a Warn disconnect that had the cable ripped off an that left it stuck  in 2WD. I removed the Warn driveshaft and the unit functioned when I cut off the bunged up cable. I don't want to take the cable and control off the 300 unit, but Warn cable kits don't seem to be available either. I am thinking of making my own cable with a control lever or such to operate it.

      Greetings,
Have a 88 LT80 that been sitting for a couple years. Bought a new piston, cylinder and head. Installed these, rolled it over and it quickly locks up.  Took carb apart. It was full of what appears to be 2 cycle oil. Cleaned it, but keeps locking up and 2 cycle oil continues to seap from exhaust port.  When i installed new cylinder, I noticed crankcase was full of oil.  I'm now wondering if that oil is what's getting sucked up into cylinder.  Should there be no oil in crankcase?  If that the case, how is crank and rod lubricated?  Sorry, never worked on a 2 stroke. Thanks!

having an issue with the unit when running under a load up a hill or in high gear, seems like the belt is slipping, there is a clapping sound coming from the primary clutch like it releases and snaps back in. i don't think I should have a noise like that. this is a friends unit and he has already replaced the primary twice with the same result.
not sure where to look next

      Gday all,

Been trying a couple different ways now to download a manual. Not sure what I am doing wrong but could someone walk me thru it?
I go to DL page and click on link
get a pop up for a PDfixer or something
close that and then hit download button and no go
tells me I have reached my limit but I have never DL anything ever.

Wiring shows White and Brown to solenoid blades. Then a black wire from starter circuit relay to solenoid. I am confused,  where is that black wire supposed to connect?
      Thanks for any help
