400ex best bore size?

Recommended Posts

So I’ve got a 400ex with a dg Slip on a air filter and a stage 2 hot cam, I want to put a big bore kit on it... either a 416 or a 426 NOT a 440! Only because I hear the 440’s overheat all of the time and cause lots of problems. I’m looking for 3 things, 1. price (with kit is cheaper), 2. Reliability (obviously witch kit is more reliable) and 3. Which kit give better power, I’m assuming the 426 give it more power but if the 416 give it say 35hp for $450 and the 426 gives it 37 for $600 I’m probably gunna go with the 416....  Thanks!

Stock bore with high compression will almost always outrun the big bore.  The thing about larger bore size is higher torque, but not necessarily more power.  You gain CC's, but it takes more to push that much more air thus minimizing the larger bore size.  And of course the larger bore comes at a cost of cylinder wall thickness, thus more heat.  If i were building a runner for flat out hauling as* in a straight line, i'd go high compression small bore. If i were doing trail riding and needed torque at lower RPM, go 416 and add a larger oil cooler.  In either case though, you need to bump to good head studs and some machine work so it doesn't blow the head off.  Now that I think about it, I might still go higher compression, head studs, and drop a tooth on the front so it would rip around the trees.  Like any engine being built though, it's mostly preference over anything else.  A 400ex is not going to compete with a Banshee in a straight line, and it will struggle to pull like a 450 around trees, but it's still my favorite all purpose sport quad.

      Hey I have a 1997 big bear 350 4x4
I replaced the shifter shaft and the shift arm linkage and the rod when I installed them all I was unaware that you had to line the dot on the shifter shaft with the gap on the linkage arm gap put it all back  together and rode it I can't get it to shift in the right gears  I can move the shift cam by hand and goes in different gears but with the shifter shaft in it riding I can't put it in R or N
Anyone know how to line up the shifter shaft and the shift cam s

I WANTED TO UPGRADE THE CARBURATOR ON MY 1992 BIG BEAR 350, SO I ORDERED A NEW CARB FROM EBAY.  ACCORDING TO THE WRITE-UP IT WAS A GOOD FIT FOR BIG BEARS FROM 1988 TO 1996.  WHEN I REMOVED MY ORIGINAL CARB I NOTICED THAT IT WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE NEW CARB MY CARB HAD TWO THROTTLE  CABLES THE NEW CARB ONLY HAD ONE CABLE.  HOW CAN I MAKE THIS CARB WORK ON MY TWO CABLE THROTTLE?

Hello I’m new here and was wondering is anyone knew of good replacement part numbers for front struts and rear shocks for this atv? I think I’ve found a new rear shock, that looks like the original but there is no dimensions or anything and was wondering if there are any afterMarket new front struts available. I know it’s a long shot but any help would be appreciated.

      Hi everyone.
Let me explain the thread title.
My husband and I are very active in the nudist community, and we have stayed at many and most of the mainstream nudist and clothing optional campgrounds in the USA. We are now approaching our retirement and would like to start a podcast to share those off the road / backwoods / little known camping areas where nudity is allowed. We have purchased a 5th wheel camping trailer with a rear garage for the ATV and now need some good reports on the one to buy.
We are most interested in a side by side unit but would love to get your thoughts.
Feel free to stop by and say Hi and ask anything you would like to better understand what we are looking for in an offroad unit.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.
