2007 Polaris Ranger 700 xp AWD not Working

I picked up this ranger cheap because the AWD wasn't working. I checked it out and had 12.5 volts at the diff if I unhook the ground from the harness and run a straight ground from the frame it engages. What could be causing this? Any help would be appreciated!

Looks like you may have answered your own question.  Must be a break in the ground circuit somewhere.

That's what I was thinking but I got 12.5 volts at the wiring harness at the hot and ground side! When I hook the ground to the diff from the frame AWD engages but wont disengage when I turn the switch off it will disengage if I have the switch off and put it in reverse. Thanks for the input this is driving me crazy!

You have voltage on the ground wire? Odd.

Sounds like you need to fix the earth wire or connection, and it may not come out of gear because the gears in the diff are wound up and can't let the engaging dog slide till you back up a little.. that's quite common on a lot of things.

Finally got time to get back on the Ranger! I checked the ground (earth) wire back to the speedo everything is good. Thanks for all the advice!
