Does the motor  turn over on the starter or  do you  get nothing  ?  If  nothing  the problem  could be the neutral  safety switch  safety switch  or another safety switch is faulty..  If  everything works  and  the motor turns over on the starter then   it  could be  the CDI  box ( most likely)   or the trigger  coil  is in the stator assembly  is bad.  By the way ,  Be careful  if you  search for a wiring diagram.  I  did  and  found one site that had been compromised by a trojan.. Tried the link to the  pdf  it listed and got the message the link  didn't  work.  There was another link  listed on the page that supposedly   went to  a download page, it showed a different address and   a op up  box that my  browser ( Firefox) had an important  update.  That  was a trap trojan  installer.  No,  I did not click  it .  I know  my  FF  is up to date and about  scams  like that one . Those  SOBs catch far too  many  unwary people  and every time I see something like that I  post   in the forum I did the search to  help try to answer a question  so  if others search they  have a heads up  that the exploit is out there.

See if you can find someone local  with a CDI  box that  fits your  machine  that you can borrow to see it if it   does the trick..  There is a manual  in the downloads sectionof the forum   but  toy need 10  posts  before  you  can  get it .  Good luck  with your  quad.

I hope Jerandangel  got the information they  wanted and didn't  fall for that trojan  posing as a browser update on one page claiming  to  offer a wring diagram download .

Where did you see that? If you get stuff like that, you may need to clean your browser.

EDIT: Just read your post a second time, sounds like search results. I use Norton, which prevents these things. Good call out though 👍

Yes  it was search results. One of the sites claiming to  have a pdf available was either  a bait site or had been hacked so that when  you  went to download the  "pdf"    a pop up  came saying  an  update  to   my  browser ( Firefox) appeared..  It likely would have substituted the name of whichever browser was being used.  It  is a fairly common  exploit  that traps the unwary.  Any time  I spot  something like that when  searching to try to  help  others,  or in phishing e-mails,  I like to warn  others of them.  I  usually post about them  in  my Facebook  so  my contacts  know of them  and can spread the word to  their contacts .  Far too many people  use their computers   but  are  not  really aware of  the  various exploits out there  so  are  too  often  vicitimized  by them .   I   just  use   Microsoft's own anti-virus and  my  own  "spidey sense"   when  browsing  and  checking  e-mail.   I also  occasionally scan with  Malwarebytes  for adware  and similar crap. I also  subscribe to  a couple of tech  news  services that often  give heads up  on  new exploits  out there.  Being retired, I have a little  more time  to  do  searches  and browsing  on the computer so  I am  often   a  little  more able to  find information  for fellow forum  members who  may not be quite so  familiar  with computers  , searching  and  the  various forms of malware  out there ..  If my warnings  help  even  one   perso  evade the  pain,  frustration and expense  of an  exploit,  I'm  happy .   I don't mind others in some of the forums  I'm  in grumping  about  my warnings  because the exploits are  old news .. Far too many   others  aren't familiar  with that  old news .  My  posts  are for those it'll help ,  not for the " know it alls" ..  LOL

No  matter  what anti-virus  you  use,  it's always  best to  occasionally  check with something like  Malwarebytes too. .

Norton  is among the best  pay  A/Vs  but  I  quit it  years ago because I  found it a resource hog . Microsoft has  greatly improved their  built in  A/V for basic protection .  There  are plug-ins for Firefox and the other browsers  that  also add  a layer of protection   and   an awareness of the many  exploits out there so  far  have kept me safe  without spending a bundle  onpay services .  For those interested ,  here's the site  that regularly  evaluates   all  the  main   anti-viruses  out there..   They're an  independent  service  , not  pushing  any  one product   like some  "test and evaluation" sites  do.

      1989 Moto 4 YFM350ERW intermittent spark.
Quad has set for about 7 years and was running when parked.  When I replaced the battery and attempted to start it had no spark.

What I have done.  Followed troubleshooting in the manual.
      1.       Coil failed the resistance check so I replaced it.  Still no spark.
      2.       I performed resistance checks on the stator and they all pass.
      3.       Found a bad rear brake stop switch and unplugged it and connected the wires in order to disable.  Now I have intermittent spark.  I believe that the issue is with either the stator or CDI and not sure which.
1989 seems to be a transition year for electrical.  I can get new aftermarket CDI units for 87-88 and 90-94.  I cannot get ones for a 89.  I can get new stators for 87-89 and 90-95.  Looking at the schematics the wiring on my moto is closer to the 90 ones on the ATV side of the CDI and closer to the 87-88 on the stator side of the CDI.  Looking at part supply sources the stator housing is the same part # for all the years and looking at some of the stators on Amazon that have the dimensions on them both of the stators are the same size.
What I am thinking of doing is to replace the stator and CDI with a 90-95 one as these parts are all readily available.   Does anyone know if this has been tried before and if there are any issues with doing this.
As a side note I also have a 1993 Moto 4 YFM350ER that has been sitting longer but it is located about 400 miles from me at this time.  By doing this change in addition to being able to get parts I will also have 2 ATV’s that are the same electrically.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Troubleshooting a no spark issue, was running OK, maybe a little rich, turned it off, now no spark. I've checked/ohmed out the main key switch, the start/stop switch, neutral switch, brake switch - all good. It will crank the starter, but no spark with the starter or when I try the pull start. I've checked all fuses and diodes. Swapped battery. New plug. New coil. Swapped in a used CDI - no help. Traced, removed, cleaned, reattached all grounds. Removed things like my winch from the circuits to be sure a bad relay or something was dragging it down. When testing voltages, the orange wire going from the CDI to the ignition coil shows no/very low voltage-shouldn't it have 12V on it? Sometimes I get a very weak, intermittent glow on my spark tester, but not enough to fire the plug. I've checked continuity on just about all wires in the harness. Checked/cleaned/lubed w dielectric grease- all connections, redid a few that looked old/dirty. I've checked the stator resistances, all good, but have a stator and rectifier ordered anyway, will arrive Sunday. I verified that the rectifier has a voltage output back to charge the battery while cranking - 10.5-11V, low, but expected while starter is engaged. What else can I check as part of troubleshooting? I have a Haines service manual, but the 1999 350 4x4 seems to be an odd model, there isn't an exact electrical diagram for it, but found one for another year that has all the same number of wires and same color wires, so I've referenced that. Any hints, tips or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I recently bought a 87 TRX 250 not running of course, the owner had a brand new Key Switch on it.
I think it is the wrong one or wrong wire colors as the colors dont match up with wiring diagram i downloaded for it.
anyone have a pic of their ign switch wires where they connect with the wire colors for that model? I ended up leaving the black/w stripe and
green wire disconnected in order to hot wire it for other testing but would like to know as the colors dont match diagram.
