Yamaha Vin decoding help

i got this yamaha blaster. but i need to order some parts and i dont know what year it is or engine size. 2 or 4 stroke. every site i check for vin decoding doesnt give me an answer. can someone figure it out ? JY42XJW0XJ0015282  .The guy i bought it from said its a 2 stroke. but there isnt an oil reserve tank and there is an oil fill cap on the crankcase . unless thats a trans fill .

As far as I can tell  from  searching your quad is a 1988 model,  but  try as I  might  I  can't get  a decode on that  vin number.  Are you sure that vin is correct?  Some searches bring up  nothing , others say the vin is invalid. One forum that had a link supposed to  decode it was hijacked sending searcher off to  a scam.

Try  contacting Yamaha directly and see if they'll  help you.

thank you, i checked the number a few times, thats what it comes up. i'll look at it again.

i checked the vin again, that is whats stamped on the frame.  i believe it is a 4 stroke . i found an oil fill and the glass oil level indicator . 198 stamped on the side of the motor. my guess is an 88 yamaha blaster 200 4 stroke.

Here is a write-up on the 1988 Blaster. According to it  they are a 200CC 2 stroke.

I don't know why the  VIN keeps coming up  invalid.

All years of the Yamaha Blaster, which is 200 cc were 2 stroke. The last of the Blasters were sold in 2006, the 1st in 1988. Due to concerns regarding the reliability of the oil injectio system, a lot of owns would remove the oil reservoir and injector and pre-mix the oil and gas. If there is no oil reservoir, this is likely the case.

thanks everyone. looks like someone removed the oil reserve. i saw that they are all 2 strokes, that oil fill and glass level indicator must be trans oil.
