Thats great you got it fixed, a lot of times its just a simple adjustments, just have to find it, glad it was this time. Still doesnt explain the metal shavings in the oil filter, but i would just ride it and listen for other odd sounds and go from there. Good job!

The odd part was the guy I got it from couldn't figure it out... Apparently it's had this issue for a long time now. I ran it up and down my drive way, made it to 3rd gear with no issues. 👍👍

Glad to see you are getting it sorted out. Hate to see a good machine wither away from neglect. In my book its not even that old and it is toward the end of the Big Bear run. I have only seen a few of the 250s plenty of 350s and 400s around.

These jap bikes are so well designed and made that they seem to go forever as far as the engines and gearboxes go. I've stripped them because people had stripped bolts trying to stop simple leaks, or ridden over a rock and holed the sump, or just to do rings and a top end, but nothing else seems to break on them or even hardly wear out.. except for brakes wheel bearings and and driveline.. I've done a lot of driveshafts and axles, and a few wheel bearings, but that was nearly always caused by riding through deep water. Use clean fuel, keep things lubed and adjusted though and they are absolutely amazing. And the places they will go !! This yamaha will probably go for years with a bit of care..

Been awhile! Everything on the ATV is now in working order. I have finished up the wiring, everything works great. Now I've gotta make it pretty.

I've been struggling to find front fender assembly, does anyone know if I can use the front plastic fenders from a 2006 bruin 350? They look very identical.

Its not a perfect fit but could probably be done with a few alterations.

Well, I guess we will never know. The correct front fenders I needed popped up on Ebay, I bought it. Hopefully they make it thru the mail in one piece.....looking at you fedex 😂😂

Good, thats definately the best option, but i may be wrong about the fitment according to  the Ebay ad it says it fits the Big Bear and the Bruin.

That's correct. I went on partzilla and they share the same part number for the plastics between the bruin and big bear 250cc ONLY.

Mail call!

Fedex came by and delivered the front fenders I needed. Wasn't too thrilled with the packaging, but the plastics look brand new! Very pleased!

Now I've gotta take the front, rear and fuel tank plastics and go throw some paint on them!

Alright, it's been awhile! I've managed to get all the plastics prepped for paint. Should be spraying those early next week... The new tires did show up today! SUNF Power 2! First glance they look pretty cool, I've got an appointment on Saturday to get them installed. We gonna see lol

Also, bought some lights and switches those will be here Sunday, hopefully.

STAY TUNED!

Big day today!

Got the plastics all painted up. I tried to match it up as close as I could. This seems to be correct.....close enough lol I also painted the wheels after I got the new tires put on.

Time to watch paint dry!

You are coming right along how did the painting go tires look good i was looking at those tires but went with the Kenda they had a less aggressive tread which is what i wanted.

Well, we used the wrong type of hardener on the paint, long story short the paint won't ever dry. Gonna have to strip it and go again. Trying to keep costs down so I'm using products I don't normally use and mistakes are being made. Funny thing, now it's costing me more...😂😂 oh well, live and learn.

Tires definitely look good! They are like a maxxis bighorn knock off....time will tell if they hold up and perform well.

Sorry to hear your paint didnt harden. That a fair to midland job getting that back off. I have never painted on e, wasnt sure how the paint would hold up to the flexing of the plastic, let us know how it works out. I have used clear coat with good results it seems to flex a little better than paint, i get the plastics as smooth as possible with multiple sandpaper grades and generally polish it but if its real bad i cover with clear coat to get the shine back.

The tires look great has the best rating of any on Amazon and also the biggest seller. I got another project im working on i think i will try those.

No worries! Just a lil more work. Most paint today can handle decent flex. However, to be safe I sprayed adhesion promoter to ensure the paint won't flake with the flex. Same as everything with this ATV, I don't mind learning!

I Do like the way the tires look. I picked em up for just under $300 plus $60 to get them put on. I did throw em on to move the ATV around. Lol

Looks like I'm gonna need a round 3... I can't win with this thing! Got the 1st coat done getting ready to do 2nd, the power company shuts the power off in our area for maintenance! Power was off for 3 hours. 🤦🤦 Now, gotta wet sand and try again.

If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any.

Howdy ya'll. I am working ona 2000 Yamaha Breeze 125. It was in rought shape when I received it and I am working through issues as they pop up. The quad had been sitting for years. I was able to get her running again, but I need your help with the following issue:
I don't trust the transmission yet and I don't want to make problems any worse. So, I haven't pushed things hard at all. Low rpms, less than 5mph in reverse.

      Nuetral: Runs as expected
Reverse: She seems to be driving fine at slow speeds. Going into reverse at idle is fine, coming out of reverse back into neutral won't work (the shifter is just stuck). As soon as I turn off the quad, I am able to shift around without any issue.
Forward: It slips. It seems to only transfer power to the wheels on a smooth surface and going slightly downhill. When shifting into forward at idle, there is a clacking sounds during the transition. Shifting back to nuetral works just fine.

Other Notable Symptoms: There was old oil in the vbelt and when I was tuning the carb, it starting blowing out of the CVT cooling vent at the front of the quad. Made quite a mess. There is positive crankcase pressure due to piston blowby, that I have not decided whether or not I am going to fix (customer budget dependant).  Since the oil was old, much darker than the new oil that is in the crankcase, I am thinking it seeped past a bad seal while it was sitting for years. The oil that was in it when I first got it had gas in it.

Thoughts: I am thinking maybe there is an issue with the clutch. I worry about the old oil intermingling with the dry centrifugal clutch. I was thinking my next step would be to take the cover off of the clutch and inspect it.

Let me know what you all think. Any advice and ideas is greatly appreciated. This is only the 3rd quad I have worked on and I have a lot to learn.

Hi guys, I have a 2004 big bear 400. Last winter while plowing the driveway, I heard a loud pop from the left side of the engine. It continued to run as I looked for leaky fluid, but then died shortly after backing it up and won’t start now. The oil light comes on when I try to start it, no noise or anything else.
No blown fuses that I can find.

Hey guys and gals. I've been working on my friends 2007 big bear IRS. Unfortunately after 3 different people got their hands on it and only made things worse every time.  After months of finding just crazy problems everywhere. I'm finally at the point we're its almost 100% !!! But I'm getting a short somewhere between the 4xW switch I believe. I managed to by searching the internet like a  fiend, got my hands on an official Yamaha wire harness for the year and make. But I don't have the numbered component list and to be honest. After hours of going through and making everything so it's  easy to reference. If anyone has a picture of the referenced components. I would be forever in your debt. I've spent hours marking up the blown up diagram so it will be easy, for any possible future repairs. Please and thank you. Here's a picture of what i have so far.  Unsealed it in plastic so oil and crap won't spill or get smudged. This damn things worth it's weight in gold.              Thanks Jeff                2007 Yamaha big bear 400 IRS.       YFM40FBW

Hi all. I have a timberwolf 250 2nd that will not start.. I thought it was out of time bc the guy I got it from said it just quit on him. The tensioner had a nut welded to it and it was like2 teeth off. I installed new tensioner and chain and it still will not start. It has fire and it will not hit off brake cleaner. It has compression. Haven't put a gauge but I'm sure it will crank and run with what it has. I double checked my work and it's still in time. Spot on. Both valves move. I'm about to put a feeler gauge on them and I'll cone back but other than that any ideas?
