2004 700 Sportsman ignition switch will not crack engine

When turning the ignition switch to start the machine, the console lights up but does not engage the engine (will not crank over).  I replaced the ignition switch, but have same issue.

It sounds like you have power to everything but the starter. I would check the start stop switch and the starter cutout relay.

If pressing the start button does nothing at all, no dulling of the dash lights, no clicking noises, then you need to get a wiring diagram and check the power from the key switch is getting to the kill/start switch, and through it and to the start solenoid.

It sounds stupid, but make sure the kill switch is in the RUN position before you spend money on anything. If it is, then just try to jump the started solenoid with a wrench to see if the starter turns. You’ll know if power is getting to the starter if the wrench sparks and flash welds. 
 

If the starter turns the engine over, then you have it narrowed down to either the kill switch or the solenoid. Both much cheaper than a starter.
