Working on a 2016 Sportsman 570 and it has a new battery and spark plug. No codes, fuses all look good. It cranks for a while and when it starts it will only run for a few seconds before stalling. At one point it was running at 3000 rpm with no throttle input, then it dies. Not sure where to look besides messing with the throttle cable, so suggestions are appreciated, Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up loaning a fuel pressure test kit and I'm only getting around 20psi on prime and cranking. So I've got the fuel pump out and am going to look into a replacement. The pump does sound a little strange compared to our 3 2016 570's which all make the same pitched whine. This one just doesn't sound as healthy so I feel like there's more than enough symptoms to warrant a replacement. I'm working on this for someone so I'm not exactly sure how it was acting before it stopped running, but it's got 4300 miles and 380 hours.

Also, when I was first looking into the throttle cable I found part of a ziptie placed in between the two contacts inside of the throttle..The current owner did not put it there. Any insight on that?

Yeah fuel pressure should be around 40 PSI. As far as the zip tie, the only thing i can think of is someone didnt want the contacts to touch, or it was a left over shipping item that dealer forgot to remove.

If the throttle cable isn't adjusted correctly the ignition will be shut off when the throttle is released and the machine won't idle.

People install the zip tie so the contacts won't shut the ignition off.

Adjust the throttle free play to factory specs and remove the zip tie.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. The problem was the fuel pump. Put in an All Balls Module, got everything put back together and adjusted the throttle cable to where it should be and it's running and driving great! Was a nice project to learn a little more about these machines.

Bought a 88 big bear 350 4x4 took it for a run and lost spark, found it was stator so I replaced that then took it for a long run and it sat for 2 days and no spark again, this time stator tests good on ohms and voltage for source and pick up coils so I started replacing things including regulator, ignition, ignition coil and plug cap, spark plug and everything tests great including all safety switches until the orange wire for ignition coil from the cdi it only reads 3 volts so I replaced the cdi and still 3 volts, any ideas??

Fixing for a friend. Atv was at a different friends house to be fixed and he rebuilt the carb and had it running nice, then it shut off and no more. He replaced the key and the coil.

So he got busy, so I am helping, I checked the wiring from the stator to the cdi, and from the cdi to the coil. All is good. I checked resistance on the pickup coil, good, and on the source coil, open. I buy a new stator (China) and the 4 prong plug only has 3 wires in it while mine has all 4. I checked resistance in the source coil and it's in the 300's. I pulled one of the old pickup wires out of the old stator and wire it in the new one. Still no spark.

Why do the wires differ, I checked the VIN again and it's "J" for the year and I got a 1988 stator. Please help!

Hello all, I have a 2006 Polaris Sawtooth with no spark. It has a dead battery but with a jump pack on it, it will still not Spark. Plug is good, Throttle ETC is not closed, Stator pick up coil seems to Ohm out in the correct range, Unsure how to properly check the CDI. And when ignition is on the Neutral and reverse light come on but after cranking just the neutral stays on.

      Any help would be great,

      Thanks!

Hey guys, so I've been messing with my quad, and between all the starts, the battery is dead. Is there a certain way to charge these? Can I just throw a trickle charger on it and call it a day? can i also jump it like a normal car with a battery pack or is that to much voltage

Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?
