Hello from southeast Georgia. Was gifted a 2000 Yamaha bear tracker with out a carb or battery and looking like it had seen better days. Was told it had sat for about three years. Explained a lot. Put a carb on and a battery in and it started right up. Surprised the heck out of me :) Anyhow as stated in my opening I am  78 years old with a very long motorcycle backgground but brand new to atv's. Anyone else out here from Georgia? Would like to meet up with some folks for a ride or two. Looks like a great site. Thanks for having me.

Thats great you got it going so easily, welcome,i think you will enjoy the site, any problems we are here to help. Bear tracker is a nice tough little quad easy to ride. I am also a motorcycle guy , as i have gotten older been doing more collecting and restoring than riding.

Thanks. Yep it looks like a wonderful site. No more motorcycles for me. Over the last winter I contracted a thing called Gillian Barre Syndrome that left me paralyzed. I am getting better every day but my balance is still off. Can't even walk right yet, but at least I am walking which is more than I could do 5 months ago so I'm a happy camper.

I have had a Honda trx250 for many years and use it alot. I got a project Yamaha kodiak 4x4 from the son-in-law that he was too busy for. It has some missing parts that I am gathering. It does run with good compression. This site has been great for the manual and encouragement.  Welcome aboard,  stay safe,  have fun.

Welcome,

From another oldster.  You've got me beat by a year.  I share your motorcycle heritage, and am happy the ATVs are so widely available these days.

This forum is friendly and helpful.  One of the good ones.

My first motorcycle was a homebuilt scooter powered by a lawn mower engine.  Got my first ticket on it riding in the city park.  I only have owned a ATV for two years.  Not as much fun as the bikes, but it hauls heavy stuff like chainsaws, gas, and axes.  I've always fixed my own stuff, but for me the this forum has been great for help with quad knowledge.   And photos of quads in action.

I bet you will find the forum great.  Welcome aboard,  tom

Fixing for a friend. Atv was at a different friends house to be fixed and he rebuilt the carb and had it running nice, then it shut off and no more. He replaced the key and the coil.

So he got busy, so I am helping, I checked the wiring from the stator to the cdi, and from the cdi to the coil. All is good. I checked resistance on the pickup coil, good, and on the source coil, open. I buy a new stator (China) and the 4 prong plug only has 3 wires in it while mine has all 4. I checked resistance in the source coil and it's in the 300's. I pulled one of the old pickup wires out of the old stator and wire it in the new one. Still no spark.

Why do the wires differ, I checked the VIN again and it's "J" for the year and I got a 1988 stator. Please help!

Hi everyone and thanks for reading.
My husband and me are getting ready to host the 2nd Quad Runners event at our nudist campground. The first one (last year) went pretty well with about 20 quads attending and have to say, it was a smaller group, but they made up for their size with the large interest in partying and there was plenty of nudity as the Saturday night went on.
We have decided to host another one this summer, but we are looking for some fun (but safe) riding events. Our grounds are almost all flat and remember we are a nudist campground so many of us are bare as* naked so "slow ride" events would be the best.
Give us your thoughts and ideas and feel free to ask us anything you would like, and we will answer right here in the thread.
Thanks for your help and ride safe.
BTW, let us know what "anything goes" means for this thread section.

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

Hey guys, so I've been messing with my quad, and between all the starts, the battery is dead. Is there a certain way to charge these? Can I just throw a trickle charger on it and call it a day? can i also jump it like a normal car with a battery pack or is that to much voltage
